Of course she knew. She is as up to her neck in it as he is. But he is disposable to her, chuck him under the bus, move on, let him take the fall for their shared incompetence.

Hapagirl48 · 13/02/2026 09:57

Not a chance in hell she didn't know.

Erin1975 · 13/02/2026 10:22

Wow. If this is correct it's a lot more serious than I expected. I thought the embezzlement charges were relating to using the referendum funds for general party expenditure rather than a referendum campaing, not that he was accused of actually stealing stuff.

SirChenjins · 13/02/2026 10:31

Of course she bloody knew - but for sone reason she enjoys a legal protection not afforded to any other past politician. Let's hope it does catch up with her at some point in the future.

If by some miracle she didn't know, then she's guilty of recklessness, turning a blind eye to dodgy dealings within her party and lacking the insight to question her husband's unexplained income. For someone who trained as a lawyer and who held the very senior positions that she did, I find that remarkable.

Flangle · 13/02/2026 10:33

Of course she knew.

What god awful people. I think devolution has been a huge mistake, there’s very little accountability.

Igneococcus · 13/02/2026 10:33

If I'd buy a car worth £81K dp would certainly at least wonder how I could afford that.

Remember that video of her being absolutely vicious to people questioning the party accounts?

And the spends on Jo Malone and MAC makeup are most likely to be for her unless PM is a closeted transwoman which actually would explain a few things…

He spent £2.5k with Manufactum.....I love their stuff but the most I've ever been able to afford was a Bakelite pencil sharpener for DH. Obviously should have chosen a life of crime....

Yes, I thought the same. Yes, it was dodgy and out of order but not that he'd literally just been buying cars and jewellery and so on. I find it absolutely fascinating. We know he had money because at one point he loaned the SNP a significant amount, or was that cover for attempting to pay some of it back? Why do people do these things? He got a few nice things, so what, why would anyone think it worth risking everything for that? Did he really think he wouldn't be caught? I honestly find it bizarre, I just can't understand it.

TheGoddessAthena · 13/02/2026 13:18

I think he just saw how easy it would be to get away with it. He's married to someone else who has oversight on the business bank accounts. He wasn't being challenged and nobody wanted to even raise the issue.

About 10 years ago I was treasurer of the local playgroup, and joint signatory on the bank account with the chair. I had to approve all transfers he was making and countersign all the cheques. We're talking £20 for milk and a few quid for new felt tip pens, not close to half a million quid. And I was not married to the Chair!!

Bunch of fecking amateurs.

TheGoddessAthena · 13/02/2026 13:29

I have to agree with Craig Hoy who said: "The shocking lack of transparency among the toxic clique at the top of the SNP is what has got the party in its current mess".

Carefully distancing herself from her "marriage" and much loved ex-husband who she lived with and worked closely with but had zero idea that he had his hand in the cookie jar. Allegedly.

how could she not question when a bloody camper van turns up on the drive?

LucyLoo1972 · 13/02/2026 18:22

it makes me so and becasue I had a psychosis which took my whole life away believing id doen something wrong in my PhD thesis - completely irrational and not true but I nearly died thinking I was going to be found out. I dont know how they can do these things .

TheGoddessAthena · 13/02/2026 18:23

And a brand new VW Golf. And an electric Jaguar. And jewellery and cosmetics.

CrustyBread1977 · 13/02/2026 18:26

So bloody disappointing. I’ve never been a Nationalist but I thought she was a proper serious politician. Especially during Covid, compared to those charlatans down South. I give up on politics.

All you saw during covid was someone with more polished presentation skills. She could deliver a message in simple, fluent language and be understood. She did not slip into ancient Greek analogies or err and umm her way through press conferences.

The content of what she was saying through is another matter. But as with everything in the SNP, the dear leader should never ever by criticised.

Huh? Do you not remember them proposing to cut the bottoms off all the doors in schools? And NS vehemently defending that policy? They were an utter joke if you paid attention to what they were actually doing rather than what she was saying they were doing.
