How convenient that the actual trial won't be until after the May elections in Scotland. I would imagine the publicity will surely damage SNP support though.

TheDameHelenShiteingMirren · 14/02/2026 08:57

I wonder if Nicola did any shopping at all while all this was going on 🤔

It will be interesting to see how it plays out. If I were a SNP communications officer (which I am most certainly not) I would be playing the "innocent until proven guilty" card and talking up the fact that Sturgeon isn't standing, neither is Murrell and that X candidate is squeaky clean.

Igneococcus · 14/02/2026 09:00

Thanks @guinnessguzzler that makes sense now. Now if someone could explain bitcoin to me in simple words.

TheDameHelenShiteingMirren · 14/02/2026 09:00

Peter Murrell has Sturgeon's future in his hands

Indeed. Come on, Peter, you owe her nothing, do the decent thing, you could turn it round and become this country's hero. Wouldn't that be nice.

Igneococcus · 14/02/2026 09:01

Huh, why do my post keep getting hidden even before they appear on the thread?

TheGoddessAthena · 14/02/2026 09:02

I think @Igneococcus it is because your responses mention that particular brand of currency and any mention of "piececoin" or similar is automatically blocked by MN as it's a term used so often by spammers. They used to do the same when posters mentioned Temu or Shein.

Ooooh, ok, interesting, I didn't know you couldn't the word.

TheGoddessAthena · 14/02/2026 09:05

You can use it - your previous post is now showing as someone will have looked at it and realised you're not a crypto scammer.

guinnessguzzler · 14/02/2026 09:06

@Igneococcus I wonder if they have some kind of ai monitoring because of risk of contempt of court and anything the ai can't easily / immediately see is 'safe' needs to get checked by a human? Your other post has now appeared and agree there is nothing contentious there. It's very exciting when you see hidden posts imagining what political secrets the person has revealed, only to discover they were simply expressing surprise that audit hadn't picked anything up sooner. Perhaps the thread is being monitored by auditors who don't want their profession brought into disrepute?!

TheGoddessAthena · 14/02/2026 09:07

And my response to you has been hidden because I used the term which is used to refer to virtual online currencies!!

guinnessguzzler · 14/02/2026 09:08

Ha ha, thanks for the explanation @TheGoddessAthena but I like my theory about the conspiracy of auditors better 😂

Athena's post has also disappeared now, it seems it's mentioning a certain currency rather than PM that is causing the problem.

What is the salary for the CEO of the SNP? I have no idea how much you get paid in a position like that.

Just coming back to this. Apparently it was advertised at £95k in 2023:

Peter Murrell

SNP advertises for Peter Murrell replacement

The SNP is advertising for someone to take over from Peter Murrell who resigned earlier this year.

And NS on ~£180K as first minister, they could have afforded to buy their own luxury car and campervan with a bit of saving first despite the tax they paid on this level of salary.

guinnessguzzler · 14/02/2026 10:35

Precisely. It's not billionaire CEO megabucks but more than enough to afford the finer things in life, especially when married to someone else earning even more and when presumably lots of both of their day to day costs were legitimate expenses ie I expect they got more lunches and dinners paid for than your average employee.

I see the faithful are claiming the trial has been put off until after the election in case he’s found innocent

So bloody disappointing. I’ve never been a Nationalist but I thought she was a proper serious politician. Especially during Covid, compared to those charlatans down South. I give up on politics.

It was infuriating how many people thought she was "good during COVID". She just behaved like a stupid deputy head teacher erring on the side of maximum restriction and harm because she correctly sensed that people were in a mad panic

Exactly . She just loved standing at that podium every day 😡

I've always felt very uncomfortable about how the Scottish Government donated £500,000 to Gaza very shortly before First Minister Hamza Yousaf's parents-in-law were allowed out of Gaza.

Scoffingbiscuits · 14/02/2026 12:05

There is obviously a huge problem within the SNP if very large sums of party funds can be stolen and either nobody picks up on it or, surely far more likely, they do pick up on it but don't do anything about it. Where was the Business Convener? Where was the Treasurer?

There’s a kind of magical thinking going on within the independence movement as whole, I think. When asked about such minor details as, for example, currency in an independent Scotland they just wave their hands in the air and say it will all be sorted out come the great day. Independence is all, everything else but minor details. That and the type of personality cult around Sturgeon and the tight grip she had on the party and other key positions within government and other Scottish institutions means that dissent is pretty much unthinkable.

Am reminded of my granny’s ornament of the three wise monkeys covering their eyes, their ears and their mouths.

In fact, did/do they not have a slogan, “wheesht for Indy”?

If memory serves correctly someone resigned as finance officer quire soon after appointment because they weren't being given sufficient access to the books to do the job
