Do you want to give a bit more context?

Dearg · 05/12/2025 08:07

No ore than any other Christian church. It’s not a cult.

I don't think you are an idiot but I just wanted a bit more information. Was he converting was it a new interest, is he a child an another adult was taking him.

NewAgeNewMe · 05/12/2025 08:25

I’m Greek Orthodox. There is off top of my head, Russian, Serbian, Coptic, (think one of the first churches), Armenian. probably more.

What would you like to know?

AnnaMagnani · 05/12/2025 08:28

Possibly especially if he has never shown any interest in Christianity before and you aren't from an Orthodox culture.

In the USA there is a subsection of the Orthodox Church pushing conversion to young men as a hyper masculine thing.

Mariocatgran · 05/12/2025 08:33

@Didshejustsaythatoutlouddont even get that haha

Is he interested in it because of a friend or going to a local church?

Or is this an online interest? In which case I'd be more suspicious.

However he is likely to find real life church going in Scotland very different to the online experience.

Coffeeishot · 05/12/2025 09:04

Do you have a European heritage is that where the interest is coming from

Mariocatgran · 05/12/2025 10:09

@Coffeeishotnope hes just done loads of research and thats his choice he seems happier so im happy for him

The Ethiopian Orthodox is interesting because they have a Book of Enoch in their Bible. And they say they have the Ark of the Covenant.

NewAgeNewMe · 05/12/2025 11:24

I know I’m embarrassed that I missed out so many of the orthodox churches. I don’t go very often unless Easter or Christmas and for memorial services (which seem to be all the blooming time)..

Coffeeishot · 05/12/2025 12:24

Thats good then young men can be susceptible to online nonsense and toxic masculinity, but if it is just a church he is looking for then it might be ok for him, just look out for language about women in the place etc,

NewAgeNewMe · 05/12/2025 13:48

It’s misogynistic (I often have arguments with the priests and bishops) but There is a Greek saying
the man is the head of the house and the woman is the neck and she can turn that head anyway she wants.
