SQA results 2025

Starting a results thread early, and the last one I'll do as DD has now left school!

DD has an unconditional offer for uni so these grades don't make a difference but they still matter to us, especially after the C in History last year when she was on track for an A (bastard SQA). So hoping for a good grade for AH History.

She's also doing 2 other Highers, one of them we had to complain about the teachers (long process involving GTCS, LA and SQA, all upheld), so again really hoping the grade gives a right twos-up to that teacher.

Outwardly she doesn't seem to be stressing - more worried about passing her driving test than passing her exams, probably cause of the UC offer. But I know if she passes the subject with the godawful teacher she'll be emotional.

Hows everyone else's kids doing?

Argh!!!! 6 days to go. I’m going crazy waiting. I was nervous for results day the last two years, but this year is far worse as it will determine whether DD gets to go to uni. Previous years didn’t matter quite so much. This may be her only shot as the uni she wants to go to has increased its grades for 2026.

Brightlycolouredbeetle · 30/07/2025 21:53

Waiting for AH and Nat 5s here.

DC1 has conditional offers based on AH. Fairly confident but not wanting to count chickens.

DC2 has ASN and the results could be all passes, all fails or anything in between. DC2 worked really hard so I hope a few passes - grade D would be fine! School have based S5 subjects on experience not results so it won’t impact there (apart from possibly resitting Nat 5 maths if necessary). It will impact where we go next but it was never going to be university.

DC1 has signed up for text, DC2 has not so we will be waiting for the postie. At least that gives us time to spend with DC1 - failure there would be devastating and require a complete rethink.

Ineedcoffeenow · 30/07/2025 22:01

What time to texts tend to come by on results day?

Brightlycolouredbeetle · 30/07/2025 22:07

DC signed up for text last year. The text arrived nice and early so DC looked at it… and went back to sleep.

I didn’t want to add pressure so was anxiously trying to keep myself occupied for hours before I gave up and knocked on the door! 😂

I’m sure my DS’s Nat 5 results were through at 8am last year.

Waiting for S5 highers results. My DS didn’t get round to signing up for text results service this year. Hopefully they will still have his details from last year. Waiting for the postman to arrive at 2pm will be too much for me! He doesn’t seem to care.

I'm pretty sure you only have to sign up the first year you sit exams.

Willowback · 30/07/2025 22:47

My dc is really panicking as the results get closer, its NAT5 this year so we keep telling her not to worry - to be honest I'm panicking too I'll be in her room at 7.55am waiting!!

Pulling a chair up
DC3 S5 Highers for us this year. She did well last year in her Nat5s but you never know. The options for S6 in her school were quite poor and she felt a few Advanced Highers (and they weren’t offering the ones she was really keen on) plus “fillers” such as Cake Craft and Travel and Tourism wasn’t for her. The school were also getting rid of that free period in S6 which is so sad, it was the highlight of S6 😀 the SLT felt it was being used for socialising not studying so all S6s must take 5 subjects.

DC3 found a HNC course in the area she wants to do her degree in, she has a Conditional Offer based on 2 Cs which she should get, the only thing I worry about is do unis such as Glasgow/Strathclyde/Edinburgh “look down” on applicants with HNC/HNDs rather than the traditional S6 route??

I also need to speak to her about Clearing just as another option …

It's a long time since I went to Strathclyde Uni, but my science-based degree course did welcome good HND students in to the BSc (Hons) courses from certain colleges. I'd look at entry requirements on their website - it could be argued that having gained an HNC/D already shows that you have a commitment to effective learning.

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 02/08/2025 08:33

Nervously waiting on DS S5 Highers results here. We’re not allowed to mention them as he’s starting to stress about them.

He’s mostly looking at English Unis and ideally needs AAAAB, but feels there are two potential Bs.

@sweetkitty - they have no free periods in S6? DS has a whole day he doesn’t need to go in!

I would contact the universities to ask them. No need to be guessing if they can tell you directly.

Don't rule out HNC/HND college route. There's different routes to getting there🤷‍♀️

user1476613140 · 02/08/2025 20:29

DC1 has an unconditional offer for college so he's not really fussy what his results are from S6...awaiting one AH, one H, and a Nat 5 result 🤞 he's off to college to do an HND then plans to join uni in the 3rd year.

Got to start this all over again from next April with DC2 starting Nat5 exams 😩

Younger two DC several years away from exams so get a reprieve after DC2 🤣

OSTMusTisNT · 02/08/2025 20:35

Hope everyone gets the results they deserve and need. I'm past that with mine but remember the worrying.

Unlike my parents who were away on holiday at my G.Parents when I got my Standard Grades. I was left home alone as I was working and pretty much spend the whole school holidays parent free and pished 🤣. Good times.

Many accept those with HNDs on the degree pathway. It's not usually looked down on. Just a different way of achieving the same end goal.

I did an HNC, then an HND and then went into Uni with no issues (left school with 2 Highers (AC grades). Some Uni have examples of this entry on their website ie.Degree Link | RGU (sorry I know you specifically mentioned Edinburgh/Glasgow etc but hopefully they have similar links with local colleges

Degree Link | RGU

RGU works in partnership with affiliate colleges to provide a range of guaranteed progression pathways for Scottish students. Each year over 400 students gain advanced entry to RGU having first completed a HNC or HND at college.

HNDs are great routes for more vocational subjects but these tend to be at universities such as Napier/Heriot Watt/RGU which offer more vocational degrees. Edinburgh only take HNC/D for a few subjects and even for those may ask for Highers too. I imagine Strathclyde and Glasgow are the same - HNC/Ds don’t map onto many of their degrees quite so well. So it is definitely worth checking for the specific degrees PP’s DD has in mind. Though it sounds like she might meet the entry requirements from Highers.

Whatever pathway I am sure she will find her own way regardless of results. There is also clearing too. All is not lost...I left uni with a degree I applied for through clearing years ago with 5 Higher grades (BCCCC). Not a big deal. You get there just the same in life🤷‍♀️

user1476613140 · 03/08/2025 04:20

DC is about to begin a vocational HND which required at least 3 Higher passes so it isn't exactly easy going to college either...he wasn't interested in uni after considering it for a while and decided college a better suited environment. I think it will work out fine for the PP and her DD. They all find their own way.

YouBelongWithMe · 03/08/2025 08:30

Also joining!

I have a son who has just left S6. He has a conditional offer for his first choice - needs a B in Maths. He already has a C, and he's predicted an A. He is so confident he's done it, which will make it all the more crushing if he hasn't 😭 He is breezy about it, me much less so.

Also got a daughter awaiting six N5s. Predicted all As and she also worked exceptionally hard. I think she will be very disappointed if she hasn't done it.

I'm a teacher with four exam classes getting results on Tuesday. I am also feeling the fear!!

Chocolateforbreakfasttoday · 03/08/2025 09:53

Joining too! DD waiting for results, 7 Nat 5s and a Higher. She’s been predicted As which has come with its own pressures and isn’t necessarily helpful. We have talked this morning and she’s said she is hoping for straight As and if not, she’d be okay with a B in the Higher. Guess we are just keeping it all crossed. She’s had a terrible year of ill health and in February we weren’t sure she’d even be able to sit the exams.

I can't remember - do the school get the results first, on Monday? Do teachers know first?

I think they do. I know my children’s school are open on results day for recoursing and to have students with the A grades there for photos opening the results.

I think schools get results tomorrow. Universities will already know them.

Brightlycolouredbeetle · 03/08/2025 17:46

Not sure if all the teachers get results tomorrow though - it might only be exam officers and senior management? There is a teacher on this thread, perhaps she can help?
