SQA results 2025

Starting a results thread early, and the last one I'll do as DD has now left school!

DD has an unconditional offer for uni so these grades don't make a difference but they still matter to us, especially after the C in History last year when she was on track for an A (bastard SQA). So hoping for a good grade for AH History.

She's also doing 2 other Highers, one of them we had to complain about the teachers (long process involving GTCS, LA and SQA, all upheld), so again really hoping the grade gives a right twos-up to that teacher.

Outwardly she doesn't seem to be stressing - more worried about passing her driving test than passing her exams, probably cause of the UC offer. But I know if she passes the subject with the godawful teacher she'll be emotional.

Hows everyone else's kids doing?

Does anyone know the best way to get the actual % achieved in an exam, and the breakdown of results ie/ for calculator/non calculator paper of Maths? The school auto reply was for 'Freedom of Information' requests to be directed to the local council. I can easy wait until the schools are back but wasn't sure of the best channels. Thanks.

I'd just get the kod to ask their new teacher, or the Head of Dept. Or have they left?

The school should provide that information to the candidate.

Do a subject access request

SQA Subject Access Request Form (Page 1 of 5)

My DD did this last year and got all her %, the school wouldn't give them out for some reason!

@Doidontimmm and @motheronthedancefloor thank you

yes the school only updated the address on their system and not on SQA, will have to reapply for certificates as I don't think they will keep them at sorting office but return to sender, but i'll try and then re-order via school later if necessary

Theonlyoneiknow · 07/08/2025 16:36

He's going into S5. He has ASD - any information from the school to him will not make it home, nor will he make a note of it anywhere!

If he emails the school, and asks for the information by return email, then you could see it that way?

Brightlycolouredbeetle · 07/08/2025 17:29

Or you try requesting his educational record?

motheronthedancefloor · 07/08/2025 18:27

the problem with a SAR (as its called for short) is that it can take 20-30 days I think to respond, by which point it may be too late to appeal.

Educational Records requests take 15 working days (SAR have a Calendar month and cannot be submitted by parents of 12+ age groups if they have capacity), but that still would be too slow to put in an appeal.

MistressIggi · 07/08/2025 19:34

Has the school definitely said you can't see the breakdown? It is normal in most places to be allowed this - but not while the schools are on holiday! And it he was doing nationals he won't be a high priority right now as those needing appeals for university obviously come first.

Yes! medicine and you're absolutely correct I should have put UCAS and not UCAT.
He's been studying all of the summer holidays for that one as well, it does feel relentless!

Hi, can you advise please on where your DC went for summer internship last year and this year for medicine related work experience to put on the Uni application. Was it through NHS volunteering at 16+ summer.

Thanks a lot in advance

Hi , For any teachers/ markers on here . Perhaps a stupid question Blush. Have 2 younger children and my youngest in particular has really bad handwriting . Not due to sit exams for a few years , but just wondering how that will work re markers actually been able to read poor handwriting ??

Is it just an inherent skill that the markers / teachers have ? Have already tried for years to get them to improve handwriting , so feel it is a bit of a lost cause . Any thoughts / tips ?
Many thanks.

You can get access arrangements, including typing your exam, extra time, get the paper transcribed, have it read by a senior examiner or have a scribe. If her handwriting remains problematic in S3 then I would speak to the school about this.

weareallqueens · 09/08/2025 23:21

In reality these days, with cuts, it tends to be typing. So I’d get her practicing her typing regularly to get her ready for it.

Definitely speak to the school. We worked for years to improve DS’s without success (Covid didn’t help), but the school were happy to support typing arrangements. Having spoken to Universities during open days, they’ve all said in the absence of a diagnosis they would offer accessibility arrangements already in place at school.

Hi, he did Step into Medicine which is a NHS scheme, then a week experience with a consultant and also weekly volunteering in a hospital ward (from age 16).

imfae · 11/08/2025 21:29

@Brightlycolouredbeetle, @weareallqueens and @WhatWouldTheDoctorDo , many thanks for your responses re bad handwriting . We have some time to look into it .

@imfae eldest DS got assessed by occupational therapy service after I requested a referral for him to be seen...he was diagnosed with dysgraphia by OT service. The report meant he was given extra time and ICT support for all his S5 and S6 exams. There's a bit of a waiting list usually so as soon as they're in S1/2 I would strongly suggest putting the referral request in. We didn't realise how bad the issue was until after his Nat5s...

JaneAustenFann · 20/08/2025 19:25

@user1476613140 out of interest did the school or GP do the referral to OT?

DD was one mark off an A in history! How annoying. Doesn’t make any difference to uni., it’s just annoying. The school really messed up the special arrangements for her. They reported it to the SQA but we don’t know how much of an allowance was made for that, nor what she would have got if they had got everything right for her.
