How are you enjoying the 'UK' heatwave?

Every time I open a news app the lead story is about the UK heatwave. As usual this is actually just an English heatwave. Down south it might be hot, hot, hot but up here it's not, not, not.

Currently 14C feels like 10C here in the Kingdom of Fife. It was pishing it down with rain when I got up. I have even popped the central heating on for an hour to take the chill off the house.

PS - lighthearted 😜

It was 33 here yesterday. I like it and embrace is because we don’t get much of it. Much prefer it to the rain and cold!

Exactly. The MOANING on MN the minute we get to April. People really hate nice things on here 🤣

Agapornis · 01/07/2025 13:22

It's 26°C in the shade down south in the fiefdom of East London, at least 38 + in the sun 💀 (or 313+ Kelvin Grin thermometer is broken)

Hate it, wish I was in Scotland right now! Looking forward to 23°C tomorrow. I generally prefer cold weather though, 0-10 is perfect, 25 is my comfort max.

Central Scotland and nervously watching for rain as grey clouds and my washing is out. Definitely no heatwave here.

DemBonesDemBones · 01/07/2025 13:23

@PlasticAcrobatBorders here. It was 22 yesterday, 14 today.

I don't mean to be one of them, but not everyone considers it nice weather, and we get plenty of moaning about the wind and the rain and pretty much any kind of weather possible too! We're a nation of moaners and weather obsessives 😂

I'm up in Angus - it is hot, but not a nice hot...very humid, clammy and sticky...

Same for me, it’s been horrible to wake up in with how clammy it’s been.

The bit of rain we had overnight and the very gentle cooler breeze today has been very welcome but I still have my windows wide open to get that breeze inside as my living room is like a sauna especially in the afternoon. Add fibromyalgia and peri-menopause to the mix for me and I’ve been absolutely melting anytime I’ve gone outside recently.

Yes, MN just cycles between moaning about the heat, whinging about the cold, and incessant obsessing over use of The Heating.

Sometimes it makes me remember I’m trapped on an island with some seriously bored/boring people.

I suppose the weather changes more often here than a lot of places, which makes it more of a conversation piece, but I agree, it's pretty dull!

CardinalCat · 01/07/2025 13:39

It’s been beautiful in Argyle. Lovely dry weather by day with lots of sun, and scattered clouds. Perfect for the DC to be at outdoor summer camp! Some
rain at night to keep things mild. The only truly horrific day was Friday where we had biblical rain all afternoon and I thought we would wash away into the loch.
That aside, if only I could set fire to the billions of midges, I’d be in heaven.
Having spent many years living in the hot filth of London in the summer, I’ll take this!

ReginaaPhalangee · 01/07/2025 13:42

Heatwave forecast for the next 10 days lol

I’m in Fife and it was 32 in my garden on Sunday.

your garden must be a fantastic little sun trap - whilst Saturday has definitely been the best day of the year so far in the Kingdom it didn't exceed 23C in my bit of Fife.

My car said it was 36 degrees at 1pm today. Too hot, banging headache now

BumpyWinds · 01/07/2025 14:08

I'm west coast Scotland born and bred, but work in London now.

It's days like these that make me want to return! It was 29 degrees in my bedroom when I woke up this morning. It was 29 degrees when I went to bed and slept with the windows open all night.

I cope much better in colder weather!

It is! It was overcast so I sat out without thinking too much of it and got burned.

littleorangefox · 01/07/2025 14:34

I'm absolutely baltic. Sitting in my house with my dressing gown over my clothes. Feel bad that I put the baby in shorts today. Heatwave my bum 😂

RoseRedorDead · 01/07/2025 14:36

Outskirts of Edinburgh by the hills. I've just put the heating on- bloody cold today 😂

JustASmallBear · 01/07/2025 10:33

Lovely and overcast but warm in NW England!

I'm also in the NW and it is overcast and only feels warm because it's sticky - it's 19C here.

McCartneyOnTheHeath · 01/07/2025 10:44

I'm in Edinburgh. I had an ice lolly yesterday so as not to feel left out.

By the way, this thread is in Scotsnet. We don't really care how warm you currently are down south.

Edited

It isn't even an English heatwave, either, though. I am once again struck by the fact that the media think England stops at the Watford Gap, and think Scotland isn't part of the UK, but they aren't at all sure how to classify the North of England because, well, it's not quite the thing, Tristan.

MiddlingMarch · 01/07/2025 14:46

Yesterday was awfy muggy. Took the dog out for a walk and it was so close I thought I would have to dig my way through the air. Rain last night cleared it.

But now it is absolutely not heatwave weather and I am tired of hearing about the english UK heatwave. Glorious sun at 8am but by 10am I had to put some lights on it was so grey outside.

Disappointed.

I agree - they don't seem to know how to deal with the north of England, it seems to be a bit of a blank space on their map.

I would bet money on there not being anything like the same amount of coverage of the heatwave if any other part of the UK was experiencing it. It would be an incidental 'oh, it's quite hot in Scotland at the moment - and now, England's cricket team have been playing the West Indies, let's find out how they've been getting on'

postmanshere · 01/07/2025 15:22

It’s 33 degrees here and the newborn is cluster feeding. We’re sticking to each other. It’s horrendous. Can’t wait for it to break tomorrow. We’re in Oxfordshire.

GonnaeNoDaeThatJustGonnaeNo · 01/07/2025 17:08

Aye - still not looking like a 'UK' heatwave to me.

I disagree.

Saying "there is a heatwave in England" doesn't mean that anyone thinks there is a heatwave all over England.

The same as when the news says "there is a heatwave in Spain".

I know it doesn't mean that there is a heatwave all over Spain. It will just be in the south of Spain.
