How are you enjoying the 'UK' heatwave?

Every time I open a news app the lead story is about the UK heatwave. As usual this is actually just an English heatwave. Down south it might be hot, hot, hot but up here it's not, not, not.

Currently 14C feels like 10C here in the Kingdom of Fife. It was pishing it down with rain when I got up. I have even popped the central heating on for an hour to take the chill off the house.

PS - lighthearted 😜

About 32c yesterday in East Midlands and 28c, (off of a weekend and days before of 30ish), back to normal soon but hear talk of very warm a week or so again.
I guess it’s relative to what you are used to, but Scotland being described as ‘warm’ or ‘humid’ seems a bit odd to me anyway so not surprised with the difference in temps. I like to have an interest in the whole of the UK when weather is the subject as quite interesting the variations given not that much latitude change in the scheme of things and potential influence of things like Gulf Stream etc.

Southwest England here. Eighteen months of rain finally stopped in March, so quite thrilled it's been more or less dry since. The odd few hours of rain have kept the waterbutt topped up. It's wonderful having a proper summer.

Why would Scotland never be warm or humid?

Have you been hiding under a rock?

I am in Scotland. It's been boiling here! Too hot to do f all outdoors. I have been indoors all the time due to how uncomfortable the heat is.

Only just got out my first summer bike ride this morning as it's been favourable conditions outdoors. Lovely cool breeze.

Where the heck are you?! It's been warm on some days - but not boiling!

Newbeginningsandhappy · 01/07/2025 12:31

Indeed… sitting here with a cardigan on and a blanket on my knees.

Crawling out from under my rock to say that I am not aware that anywhere in Scotland has met the definition of 3 consecutive days of 25C or more to be classed as being in a heatwave.

Here is the forecast for my part of Scotland and why I am not enjoying the 'UK' heatwave.

Boiling it is not.

Im fine with the sun but don’t like the humidity of today

Scottishskifun · 01/07/2025 12:37

It's dropped today but it's been very warm for the last few days in Aberdeenshire over 22 which feels hot here!

It's been hot but enjoyable, I used to live south and its horrible over 25 down south.
Glad that it's cooling off from tomorrow as we head south for holidays at the end of the week!

‘I guess it’s relative’

Yaua · 01/07/2025 12:38

My village hasn’t had the heatwave memo, on and off rain for a couple of days and around 12-14c

Marinamay44 · 01/07/2025 12:38

I am at London Gatwick now and it is roasting.

Very uncomfortable with so many people on top of each other.

Liverpool2025 · 01/07/2025 12:39

In Scotland.

Unfortunately we've had massive fires all weekend. One lot of rain overnight. Dry and sunny again today and have just seen we have a fire again.

Well done to all the firefighters working around the clock.

It's a balmy, taps aff, 17° today in Glasgow. Lovely.

I feel like I'm dying when it goes over 20° 🤣

Edited to add where I am to ensure your interest 😁

cloudyblueglass · 01/07/2025 12:43

Hating it.

Comet33 · 01/07/2025 12:44

When I can sit indoors and enjoy the sunshine in small bursts, I'm liking it. Not so much when i have to walk anywhere!

😂 my husband is exactly the same but ironically he's from SE England so should be able to cope with the heat.....nope just gets grumpy!
DS2 is the same whereas DS1 is like me and feels the cold so enjoys 25+

ReginaaPhalangee · 01/07/2025 12:48

i just got off a cruise on Sunday. Southampton was the hottest of all our stops haha! Travelled back yesterday. Was 32 around midlands, went to around 27ish towards Kendal, hit the border - 19! Was lovely and I slept well! Today is 14 with rain in the central belt! Not good for the holiday washing so it’s all indoors lol

greencartbluecart · 01/07/2025 12:48

rather loving it - this mild damp is better suited to me than searing heat!

edit - if it wasn’t so hot further south I might dislike the weather - makes me appreciate it

Marianwallace · 01/07/2025 12:54

Just been driving through the leafy lanes near Canterbury in Kent, and the car thermometer says 32.5c with not the slightest whisper of a breeze. It’s too much for me. DH seems fine though,

TwoFastHorses · 01/07/2025 12:57

My wee Mum lives in North East Fife and has had a cardigan on the past few days when I’ve video called her. So no heatwave there.
I live ‘abroad’ and it’s been 39° for the past week.

manicpixieschemegirl · 01/07/2025 13:04

It’s a cloudy and slightly breezy 16 here which is perfect. Yesterday was 22 and so bloody humid! Felt like I was living in someone’s sweaty armpit.

Marinamay44 · 01/07/2025 13:04

I'm sweating

I’m in Fife and it was 32 in my garden on Sunday.

BedlingtonTerrierOwner · 01/07/2025 13:13

It's not even an English heatwave, but rather parts of England. I'm in Cumbria and it hasn't been higher than 19 where I am (currently 17), and we've had frequent spells of rain and heavy wind.
