It's always sad to see a marriage come to an end, but really this shouldn't be a surprise to anyone.

I saw she included in her little statement that they had been effectively separated for a longer time. Sounded like she was distancing herself from him, as if to say she was his wife in name only so had nae idea what he may or may not have been doing.

RE the lesbian rumours - there was a time when Scotland had the most LGBT parliament in Europe, I believe. Davidson, Dugdale, Patrick Harvey and a guy whose name slips my mind who was the leader of UKIP. I’m not sure why, if she is gay or bisexual, she would have hidden it for so long.

Ineedashero · 13/01/2025 20:34

Apparently she's been staying with Val, her 'bestie'.

Oh for gods sake. So she’s friends with Val. Val is married. She was photographed leaving the house after a visit. That doesn’t mean they are an item. How ridiculous .

I'm not convinced super injunctions are really a thing, and likely a term coined by the media. Someone's sexuality is rarely, if ever, a matter of national security or anything like that so it sounds stupid to me to grant them privacy.

They are.

Perhaps not over sexuality. But you'll have to take my word for it, they're a thing.

Are you genuinely saying there’s nothing in this?

Youngheartsalittletogetherness · 13/01/2025 22:26

Most couldn't care less if she's gay.
The lies and cover ups which there were many during her tenure as FM is something that bothers people.

Clafoutie · 13/01/2025 22:36

This thread is really grim. Whatever you think about Sturgeon’s politics, raking over her marriage, sexuality and even miscarriage is just depressing. Seems we’re only a site supporting women we like and agree with. Anyone else is fair game?

Soonenough · 13/01/2025 22:38

Surely it would be better to stay married. So that you can't be forced to testify against your spouse.

She may want to testify against him to get herself off the hook
These announcements are never made out of the blue, it was timed so it could benefit her

Does anyone actually believe that their marriage was ever consummated?!

sorry genuine question. Why is everyone mentioning this. Is the opinion that sturgeons gay ?

Yes. Apart from a photograph of them what is there? They are known to be good friends .

CaraCameleon · 14/01/2025 00:05

I can’t stand NS by the way. I don’t care if she’s gay either.

Let's ge clear. Nicola Sturgeon is a disgrace to politics, to Scotland and, most importantly, a disgrace to women. The only person who has an issue with her sexuality is Nicola Sturgeon.
She made the decision to marry a gay man because she was ashamed of her sexuality. She went on to prioritise the demands of men over the rights of women. She stood in the Scottish Parliament and refused to call a rapist a man.
She deserves no compassion or understanding from anyone.

CaraCameleon · 14/01/2025 00:26

No one knows if she married a gay man. That’s nasty tabloid speculation:

Yes, agree completely. The Daily Mail article is creepy and intrusive. Horrible to see it amplified on this thread. Who the hell cares who she may or may not have a relationship with.

You mean the Battle Bus - or is that still in the pound?

Sturgeon threw every single woman and girl in Scotland under a bus when she destroyed our rights with the GRR bill. Don't try playing the sisterhood card here.

Let's not forget this is a woman who was happy to see a convicted rapist go into a womans prison.
She was also trying to go for self-iD throwing all sorts of safeguarding for women and children out of the window.

Did her sexuality play any part in those decisions?

She can rot in hell for all I care for the way she's treated women and children, I utterly despise her.

bluegreygreen · 14/01/2025 01:06

Not remotely interested in her personal life

Have profound disrespect for her political machinations, esp around identity in Scotland, and would like to know the truth about the SNP money matters

2025hello · 14/01/2025 01:22

So far this thread has discussed whether Sturgeon consummated her marriage, whether she is gay, and even whether and how she may have conceived before miscarrying.
I am well aware of the extent of anger and hatred towards her policies. As a politician she might expect and accept those to be fair game for criticism and denigration. But when her politics is being linked to her sexuality, private and reproductive life, and people think it is ok to speculate and sneer over that, where have we ended up? Attacks on a woman’s personal and sexual life has historically been a way of attacking her political opinions, rather than arguing with those opinions on their own terms, and it feels like we’re back there. If that is ‘playing the sisterhood card’ then so be it.
