Exams 2024 appeals

Lots going on in the original exam thread but thought I’d start one only for appeals as I’m curious how many of our DCs will be successful.

Mine submitted one for chemistry today, took 2 minutes online

My DD hasn't been told anything about this either, I don't know whether to be excited/nervous or not! Here's hoping, anyway.

namenamification · 03/10/2024 08:20

Fingers crossed for everyone

motheronthedancefloor · 03/10/2024 08:27

DDs teachers are saying they've heard nothing about it....but the SQA definitely told me and they told the Herald the same thing when the paper asked.

motheronthedancefloor · 03/10/2024 08:36

appeals released from 12.30 - school just heard.

ThatsNotMyTeen · 03/10/2024 10:00

3 pm here we’ve been told

I’m not hopeful, if they were based on previous work/prelims then I’d be hopeful of AH maths but not just a marking review

Good luck even with a 10% success rate some of us should be successful?!

HigherOptions · 03/10/2024 10:09

Yes it will be interesting to see how our students do on this thread. Get our own % rate and see if it corresponds. I’m not holding out much hope to be honest but it was definitely worth having a shot.

Perhaps this has taken the schools by surprise and they’ll need a few hours to work out how to pass the info on to individual pupils. They’ll have to handle the disappointment of many students if they don’t get bumped up a grade.

bluebellsandspring · 03/10/2024 12:06

My DC thinks their chances are higher than 10% because apparently a lot of pupils appealed everything when they weren't awarded an A and didn't take into account whether or not they were close to a grade boundary. We're aware though that the chances are still not high. They didn't appeal through the school and did so online, so I don't know when the SQA will send out a text. Last year it was early evening - I have a clear memory of putting face paint on a younger sibling who was going out guising when they came into the room in a state of shock to say they thought they'd been successful in the appeal and asked me to read the SQA text.

ThatsNotMyTeen · 03/10/2024 12:22

That’s a good point, my eldest doesn’t really
have any expectation his physics will go up but he just appealed anyway.

from what I could gather from the info I’ve seen, my SQA won’t be updated at least not imminently. They will get a certificate in November.

cushionfiend · 03/10/2024 12:54

If you appealed directly online, do the results still go to the school? Or do they come to you?

bluebellsandspring · 03/10/2024 12:55

I think they go to both, but don't know who hears first. DC appealed online last year and was successful and heard by text, but no one in the school ever mentioned it to them, possibly because they were no longer doing any classes in that department.

HGC2 · 03/10/2024 13:19

SQA say all appeal outcomes to schools

still no news yet here....

cushionfiend · 03/10/2024 15:03

No change for DD - she was 1 mark off an A for English and she's still getting a B. Such a shame. They had a terrible year for teaching in English last year - numerous different teachers and covers, a total lack of consistency across the curriculum. Oh well, hopefully she'll still manage to get into the course she wants at Uni - although an A in English was one of the additional requirements.

motheronthedancefloor · 03/10/2024 15:09

perhaps her UCAS referee could mention how close she was if that helps. That's a shame for her. No word from my DD yet but she's on work experience today so not in school.

Oh sorry to hear that x

If she is doing the AH hopefully that might help

No word here yet either but youngest still in school and eldest is at University

HigherOptions · 03/10/2024 15:16

Sorry cushionfeed that’s a shame - just one measly mark. I don’t hold out much hope for my DD as she was a couple of marks short in both the subjects she’s appealed - haven’t heard anything but I didn’t tell her it was today and the school hadn’t mentioned it either.

HGC2 · 03/10/2024 15:48

thats such a shame @cushionfiend its as well I'm not a marker cause there is no way I could not have found a point!

school will not be able to tell DD her appeal results as they 'weren't prepared' for the earlier than usual release. She may find out tomorrow or Monday. Unless, somehow, the school email her tonight...

motheronthedancefloor · 03/10/2024 16:13

It'll be Monday at the latest now as the school sqa coordinator doesnt work Fridays and seemingly no one else can do it? FFS

ThatsNotMyTeen · 03/10/2024 16:15

Oh that’s annoying

Still waiting here…

HigherOptions · 03/10/2024 17:09

I’ve got a feeling it’s caught a few schools by surprise. Still no news from my DD but she isn’t home yet - if there had been good news I’m sure I’d have heard by now.

ThatsNotMyTeen · 03/10/2024 17:11

Youngest never got his. He’s not bothered.

Eldest doesn’t know yet.

Vettrianofan · 03/10/2024 17:41

Bettyscakes · 02/10/2024 21:50

I work for them… we are not about to be scrapped!

Love it🤣🤣🤣

Vettrianofan · 03/10/2024 17:55

No word here either.

Really sorry for your youngest and others who were not successful on appeal. Not really holding out much hope for DS, but you never know.
