Lots going on in the original exam thread but thought I’d start one only for appeals as I’m curious how many of our DCs will be successful.

Mine submitted one for chemistry today, took 2 minutes online

what I meant was that I was curious to see the figures regarding number of appeal submissions for that subject compared to last year.

DS just keeps himself to himself at school so no idea about others. He did remark in one of his Higher classes last week one pupil was awaiting their appeal outcome, unclear which subject. Will quiz him later!

Asked him after dinner...he said the other pupil who was waiting on his Higher Chemistry appeal was hoping for an upgrade from a C to a B. The other pupil was unsuccessful. His grade stayed the same for Higher Chemistry.

I'm assuming since I haven't heard anything that ds's appeal was unsuccessful - I would have thought we would hear either way though?

bluebellsandspring · 14/10/2024 20:39

Did your DS appeal privately or through the school? My DS appealed privately and the results of the appeals were sent to him directly, whether successful or unsuccessful. Any new certificates will be issued next month.

Tomorrowisyesterday · 14/10/2024 20:43

I'm pretty sure I filled in the form, but I haven't had anything to my email address. It wasn't through the school just because he has left school.
Just checked back and it was my email I used.

bluebellsandspring · 14/10/2024 23:15

That's a little strange - I think you should have heard by now. Can your DS still log into his SQA account? That should hopefully have been updated by now.

Tomorrowisyesterday · 14/10/2024 23:27

It is very possible they have contacted ds and he has missed it! I think no news is bad news - pretty sure his former school would have told us if there was anything good to tell.

Hapagirl48 · 16/10/2024 18:21

I appealed privately but the result still went to the school. When I hadn't heard after a few days, I contacted the school and they told me.

8misskitty8 · 16/10/2024 18:41

School on holiday this week. I emailed last week and no reply. Dd couldn’t find the teacher who deals with sqa 🤷🏻‍♀️

Does anyone know when the mysqa site updates ? On the off chance she did get it ?

Onetwobucklemy · 03/11/2024 21:51

My DS was informed by his teacher that his appeal was upheld and now has an A for Nat 5 Maths instead of a B. This was done through the school at my DS’s request. Will the SQA re-issue his exam certificate?

Thanks

Yes, he should get a new certificate soon.

Thanks @KielderWater.

KielderWater · 03/11/2024 22:10

Also congratulations!

Angry but not surprised by the outcome of the Higher History investigation. They were never going to admit fault as then they'd have more work to fix it and potential legal consequences

Lifeisgood1 · 07/11/2024 08:35

We got an email in October saying we hadn't been successful

bluebellsandspring · 07/11/2024 17:02

I am also annoyed about the Higher History investigation. It doesn't leave me with much confidence in the system.

KielderWater · 07/11/2024 17:26

So the investigation was basically asking the markers if they thought they had marked correctly?

motheronthedancefloor · 07/11/2024 20:11

I dont think so. They blame the teachers for not teaching properly and the pupils - basically they weren't smart enough. Never blame the SQA oh no.
Markers were complaining the marking instructions had changed without prior warning. The investigation was internal, they shared their findings (note: not the full investigation etc) with a Welsh exam lead (a system with faults of its own), who seemingly only spoke to FOUR markers and the overall conclusion was that there is ino issue. (other markers who submitted feedback say it wasn't used)
If you compare the 2023 marking instructions with the 2024 marking instructions the difference is stark, how can they say its the same?
