XL bully dogs and Scotland

Another blinder by our "wonderful" government. I was not aware that the ban on these awful chav beast dogs only applied in England and Wales. No legislation to ban/restrict them in Scotland.

Some dim woman who runs a "bullie rescue" says she has been "inundated". Isn't that just marvellous.

The Scots taking in XL Bullies as England cracks down

Five-month-old Buddy has just arrived after his owner in Liverpool decided to give him up.

@Againstbsl24

Your poor kid being put needlessly at risk so you can play saviour to a stranger's dog. One that's been raised so poorly it's not even used to decent walks. I really hope it doesn't get end badly and that you can keep your child safe. It's so unfair on them.

ArabellaScott · 23/02/2024 16:43

I'm hoping that poster is on the wind up. I cannot imagine anyone having one of these dogs in a house with children. Why the fuck would you take the risk?

This dog was been raised in a house full of children but they couldn’t keep her due to personal reasons. I wouldn’t take a dog with unknown history because I have a child. This dog has known history. So far she is better with my kid than my existing dog is.

So far? So a day or so?

Is your existing dog not very good with your kids then?

I know it’s early days. They won’t be alone together or anything. I am watching very closely. Nah, my existing dog is fine. She just gets abit worried by loud noises, sudden movements, etc . She's getting elderly. I’ve had her since she was a pup. Never had a problem with her.

whatsitcalledwhen · 23/02/2024 17:00

@Againstbsl24

And despite knowing this about your nearly elderly dog, you've introduced a rescue XL bully into her environment?

Unfair on your child and existing dog then.

Nice.

I’m introducing them slowly. I’m sure they’ll bond.

ArabellaScott · 23/02/2024 17:02

And what will you do if there's an issue? Given that you won't be able to rehome the Bully?

Againstbsl24 · 23/02/2024 17:04

@whatsitcalledwhen You are just determined to have a go at me regardless. Sorry I took a healthy dog because I thought it would fit into my family and wanted to save it from death. How terrible of me.

CoatOfArms · 23/02/2024 17:05

Sorry I took a healthy dog because I thought it would fit into my family and wanted to save it from death, putting the welfare of the dog above that of the humans and existing pets in the family. Go me.

I'm not 'determined to have a go at you'.

I don't believe you can genuinely think that on balance, taking in an XL bully when you have a child and a nervous nearly elderly dog (bothered by loud noises and sudden movements) in the house was a sensible or fair decision.

I just don't see how you can believe that your decision is one that prioritises your child or existing dog, both of whom you had a duty of care to over and above a stranger's dog.

And the fact it isn't used to having proper walks shows that it hasn't grown up with a sensible, responsible owner. Adding additional risk.

It's just such a risk you're taking and not one that prioritises your child. Or even your existing dog.

Given your home circumstances and what you know of this dog, yeah, it’s terrible of you.

You need to mix in different circles and follow new SM groups.

You rehomed a breed with restrictions on them - restrictions that have been brought in for a reason. You also brought ANOTHER of these things up from England - I note you completely ignored that it’s illegal to do so? As if we don’t already have enough of these bastard dogs up here already you’re adding to the number 🙄 Why not rehome from Scotland, there’s already hundreds listed as needing homes - oh wait, it’s illegal isn’t it? I await the new media report that another of these things has attacked a family after being rehomed from south of the border.

How utterly selfish and stupid to rehome one of these things with children having had no home check done and knowing very little about this dog, did I mention it was also illegal to do so? However, you’re probably one of those who call these monstrosities velvet hippos or land seals and argue with anyone who’s willing to listen that chihuahuas bite too 🙄 Ignorance can be educated, but you can’t fix stupid.

ilovebrie8 · 23/02/2024 19:27

Anyone know what’s happening about the numpty trying to open a rescue centre for xl bully’s near Dundee? Hope that isn’t happening it’s crazy …

Dearg · 23/02/2024 20:18

@Againstbsl24 several posters have asked why you rehomed this dog illegally. You’ve not responded.

While it was, until yesterday, legal to rehome within Scotland, it was not legal for anyone in England to pass this dog on to you. Is this not an issue when you register the dog ? Or will you lie?

Choosychoice · 23/02/2024 20:42

People that get these dogs are fools. These dogs are being put down as they are not safe to be in our communities. They are killing people. And you bring one into your home when you have a child??? Dear god!

will someone please tell me why these people - if the want a dog - don’t get a lab or a spaniel or something that is not a renowned killer???

Because they are working dogs. They need a lot more walking than an XL. They don’t need homes as desperately as XL’s either as they don’t risk bring pts.

But it wasn't legal to rehome in England so as a minimum you are an accessory to a crime.

Rehomed to Scotland, not England. Would you prefer this dog who has done fuck all wrong be put down?

SomeCatFromJapan · 23/02/2024 22:01

Honestly, yes, rather than take the risk of something awful happening down the line. The dog wouldn't suffer.

Yes. And it's illegal in England to rehome a dog so therefor no longer legal to bring it to Scotland hence the rush before their deadline came in.

And yes, it would be the kindest thing for everyone for it to be humanely put to sleep. Why were it's owners so keen to get rid rather than comply with the law?
