XL bully dogs and Scotland

Another blinder by our "wonderful" government. I was not aware that the ban on these awful chav beast dogs only applied in England and Wales. No legislation to ban/restrict them in Scotland.

Some dim woman who runs a "bullie rescue" says she has been "inundated". Isn't that just marvellous.

The Scots taking in XL Bullies as England cracks down

Five-month-old Buddy has just arrived after his owner in Liverpool decided to give him up.

I hope he can live with himself if one of those dogs kills a child.

ValerieMoore · 03/01/2024 16:44

@oakleaffy apparently they’ve been banned from housing association/ council tenancies. Still a problem though.

Is that in Scotland?

ValerieMoore · 03/01/2024 16:50

@SirChenjins no just England. I was saying in the sense that it won’t just be unloved dogs going to Scotland.

SirChenjins · 03/01/2024 16:58

I’d got my hopes up there! No, I’m sure it’s not all unloved dogs coming up here - but who knows where they’re going, how they’ll be treated, whether the accommodation is suitable, how they will react to a strange environment, how they will be used for breeding and so on and on. One thing’s for sure though, the SNP will dig their heels on over the issue - after being defeated in court recently hell will freeze over before they admit Westminster is right again and ban them here as well.

ValerieMoore · 03/01/2024 17:23

I get the feeling the Scottish government is gauging public opinion on the issue

If that's the case then the more letters to MPs the better.

At the moment the mood seems to be a combination of complacency and naive do-gooders rushing over the border to save the puir wee duggies. Once there’s been a few attacks and no doubt some fatalities then the SNP SG will grind into gear with a consultation period. A few years from now should see them having a vote on the issue, only to discover that their proposed legislation is so shit that it falls apart following challenges almost immediately. A period of review will follow and then another consultation and they’ll introduce some bizarre legislation which means it’s illegal to name your bully after an American president or walk it on a Sunday. Or something like that.

The latter part of the last sentence is facetious obviously, but the rest stands.

Should have taken all of 5 minutes, 6 months ago.

Is that the case? Probably a large percentage are living on Council estates or Housing Association homes anyway
A quick google showed one for Leeds that says this: {Pic} implying that 'exempted' dogs are allowed[?]

@oakleaffy ah I see, I’m just getting my information from social media

CoatOfArms · 04/01/2024 18:44

Just seen some idiot SNP communities woman on the telly, banging on about how the "Westminster government" has created this situation by allowing loopholes. Err no, fuckwit, that would be YOUR government's refusal to act.

This is the BBC article

No idea why the wrong article copied. I didn't even open that one 🤷‍♀️

"We have made it clear to the UK government that people in England and Wales should not use any loopholes that could be created to get rid of their dogs north of the border or anywhere else in the UK."

The fuck how have they 'made it clear'?! How will that help?

Idiots.

BigBoysDontCry · 04/01/2024 18:59

Yeah, 'cos Sunak was just about to ask a random bloke to drive his murder dog to Scotland. Bet he'll be thinking twice now that it's been made clear that he shouldn't do that 🙄

Honestly how do they think this is anyone else's other than their job to sort?

Yes it’s ridiculous I’m not sure what they expect of the British government. They can’t stop people crossing the border. How would that be policed?

ArabellaScott · 04/01/2024 19:12

Is there a single person left in Scotland who is not utterly sick of the SNP blaming every bloody failing on Westminster?

BigBoysDontCry · 04/01/2024 19:22

Unfortunately there are still loads of idiots who swallow this shit or are still prepared to wheest for indy.

SirChenjins · 04/01/2024 19:34

Oh - are Govts now responsible for the behaviour of every single person who lives the country they govern? I wonder if the SG will now take responsibility for the first fatality that occurs as a result of a Scottish person’s reckless behaviour in ‘rescuing’ these dogs. Idiots. The penny is finally dropping on their thick skulls but rather than taking responsibility for their failings on this issue they’re blaming Westminster yet again. You’d think they’d be embarrassed to trot out the same lame excuse each time but it seems not.

Scottishskifun · 05/01/2024 08:09

UK govt - it's a devolved matter but we strongly suggest you follow to stop the loophole.....
SNP - we aren't going to take being told what to do by you.......
SNP 3 months later........ its all Westminsters fault nothing to do with our wait and see approach!

You can bet they will have been warned by their own civil servants about this exact thing happening too.....anyone fancy doing an FOI request?! 😂

NYName · 05/01/2024 08:23

So this wasn't just an oversight? Scottish Gov were actually warned about this and chose to ignore it!

Igneococcus · 05/01/2024 08:54

In November the SNP government formally rejected a request from Michael Gove, the levelling-up secretary, to introduce similar measures “in light of the threat to public safety”, and to avoid the risk of “creating a potential dumping ground for dangerous dogs” in Scotland.

It certainly sounds like it @NYName

CoatOfArms · 05/01/2024 08:57

A "formal request" from a figure which everyone has heard of, not a letter from a faceless civil servant. The ARROGANCE of them.
