After many years of flying Took my chances on travelling from SW England to NE Scotland with the kids to see family by train .......on friday.

Basically trains from Edinburgh cancelled now if we can even get that far so not taking chances of being stranded.

Red warnings all around the NE
How bad is it going to get? Are people worried?

The schools in our council area are closing tomorrow lunchtime and also closed Friday because of the weather warning. We've put our uni teaching online.
It's looking like it's going to be really bad, so not coming up is a sensible move.

Fundays12 · 18/10/2023 22:17

It's rare for warnings to be issued like this and schools to be closed early unless there are serious concerns for safety. There was torrential rain and horrendous flooding last weekend in parts of Scotland and most routes stayed open but the water was so deep you couldn't see train tracks anymore in certain areas.

Azaeleasinbloom · 19/10/2023 08:19

I am in Aberdeenshire -Amber area - locally activities are cancelled; bus services are likely to be cancelled and schools are closing as pp said. Reluctantly, I am staying at home instead of my usual out/ about days.

Very good chance you will get stuck in Edinburgh, as it’s the east coast that’s going to take the brunt of it.

Sorry you may miss your trip.

I'm in a red zone. Things are wild and windy here already and I'm hoping the power stays on.

Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 19/10/2023 08:23

I'm in red zone and it's already bad even though ithe red doesn't kick in until tonight.

Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 19/10/2023 08:24

My parents power is off and on already

That's worrying! Are they in Angus?

Hedjwitch · 19/10/2023 08:49

I'm.in Fife and wind is already strong and its raining heavily. Its going to get a lot worse.

tigger1001 · 19/10/2023 08:56

Fife here. Pretty wild already out there.

TheLovleyChebbyMcGee · 19/10/2023 09:09

We're in Angus and its already fairly grim. I have to go into work this afternoon, NHS essential services, hopefully I'll get home by 6pm though. Schools closed.

Yes we're worried.

Figgygal · 19/10/2023 09:15

I've written off the trip tbh
Trains between newcastle and Edinburgh now impacted not taking the chance of being stranded with 2 kids. What are the chances!!
My parents crazily offered to drive to Edinburgh to pick up but it'd obviously not safe to do so .

Stay safe everyone

Best to stay at home, I think the wind is worse than was forecast for today although it's not been as wet as I expected (yet!). apparently the last red weather warning was the beast from the east!

Siezethefish · 19/10/2023 11:11

Following this thread. Have a holiday cottage in Deeside booked from Saturday and wondering if we will be able to get there or which route to take (via Glenshee or via the coast).

Must be very worrying for those in NE Scotland.

Aurea · 19/10/2023 11:57

I'm in lower Deeside, and at the moment the weather is not awful. I've seen worse.

It is, however, very wet and blustery.

Aurea · 19/10/2023 12:31

Ok. Maybe getting a bit more wild now.

Check out this page for current weather conditions across Deeside.

Brechin is to be evacuated. Everyone there stay safe

readsalotgirl63 · 19/10/2023 17:33

I'm just north of Stonehaven and it's pretty wild.

I'm in the Northern part of Aberdeenshire. Was meant to be having my ex inlaws up for the day/overnight so kids could see their cousins and they would have been coming from just north of Edinburgh. So glad we cancelled it. We aren't even in the red zone and the weather is insane. No one should be travelling unless absolutely no alternative.

Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 19/10/2023 20:57

Montrose is wild right now. Our house is shaking! I heard crumbling noises too!

Yes outskirts of Arbroath

tigger1001 · 19/10/2023 21:25

I'm in fife and the wind has really picked up again here

Aurea · 19/10/2023 21:33

8cm of rain since this morning where I am. House holding up so far.

DivaDroid · 19/10/2023 23:33

I wouldn't travel to NE Scotland until after the weekend.
I'm in the Amber area & it's crazy. Trees & power lines down nearby & roads blocked by flooding or trees.

Hedjwitch · 20/10/2023 09:53

This is a road in Blairgowrie
