I struggle to have sympathy for Craig Murray or Alex Salmond even though I do agree with him on his current issues against the SNP. I can’t imagine we would agree on much else.

I dislike both of them for various reasons, but can't deny that they were both treated appallingly and that there should be consequences for the people who hounded them/fitted them up.

If they have as little money as they seem to have, that £100K + cost of the motorhome would have been a very substantial expense, and you'd think that a number of people would have discussed it before the decision was taken. And how would it have been paid for - who has the necessary authorisation to make such an expensive purchase? Wouldn't it have taken 2 people?

Such as, say, the CEO and Leader of the party...

softkitten · 27/04/2023 16:12

I can't get over the fact that
a) they thought they'd get away with it
b) N&P, who aren't short of a bob or two, would scam a very conspicuous purchase and park it in full view. What motivated them?
c) oh and isn't NS a former solicitor? 🤔

BlueThursday · 27/04/2023 17:25

My worry is that any wrongdoing won’t be punished; leaving the window open for it to potentially happen again

Shelefttheweb · 27/04/2023 18:06

So when I thought they should sell the asset that is the campervan when the parties finances were so depleted, PM possibly had the same idea but wanted to wait for it to depreciated a bit more, hence the loan?

Now how might the SNP go about paying off the remainder of the debt due to Peter? If only they had a substantial asset they could give him… 🤔

In the last place I worked it would have been budgeted for and a purchase order raised by someone with the authority to raise one for that amount, and approved; approval would probably by the CFO for that sort of sum for a capital asset. You're right, it is a very substantial expense. Does the SNP even have a capex budget?

MrSheepy · 27/04/2023 21:11

Matt Chorley was talking today to a focus group of people who voted SNP in 2019 but apparently were consider not doing so next time. Complete eye opener. If they were examples of swithering voters then it’ll be the SNP in power forever. HY was fine, NS was wonderful. Totally different views to the ones I hear about me.

medianewbie · 27/04/2023 22:34

An SNP MSP was at Dd's College today. Came out as I was collecting her. I had to sit on my hands not to approach & ask about the 600k ...

BornBlonde · 28/04/2023 00:10

Couldn't happen to a nicer bunch of folk! Have everything crossed this is the beginning of the end of the SNP

Eagerly anticipating the next installment but things seem to have gone a bit quiet...

I'm thinking it's the calm before the storm.

pharmachameleon · 28/04/2023 21:14

I have a horrible feeling this is all going to blow over. I didn't realise that Scottish nationalist politics and the endless political obsession that independence is inevitable was depressing me until the threat was temporarily lifted (pardon the pun) with the recent arrests. I think they will get in again at the next Scottish election then we're back to where we are now. Ugh!

SirChenjins · 28/04/2023 23:01

I agree @pharmachameleon it will all die a death, the SNP is more than Sturgeon or Murrell - it’s got Scotland sewn up, and independence at all costs is what their followers want. This will pass - sadly.

stealtheatingtunnocks · 29/04/2023 03:14

WbT if we had karen Adam for FM? That would sort out the inevitable SNP re election?

stealtheatingtunnocks · 29/04/2023 03:48

Typo, mean to be “what” and I was unclear, if we can get her in post as FM then it’ll collapse. I don’t think she’s suitable to be an MSP. I’d not leave her in charge of my greenhouse for a weekend.

HirplesWithHaggis · 29/04/2023 03:54

A touch of foot shooting there.

stealtheatingtunnocks · 29/04/2023 04:16

I did not know that! I saw her pick on a beautician and a women’s rights protestor. She whines and blocks and answers nothing. How she ever got elected is a mystery.

wr need her as FM and lance this nasty boil so we can start again

HirplesWithHaggis · 29/04/2023 04:46

It's hilarious! Wings is incredibly widely read (and relied upon by many msn journos) without ever crediting him. And she thought she would get away with having him banned. 😁

Putting our foot in it

Goodness knows we could all do with some cheering up at the moment, so let’s have a momentary change of tone and kick today off with a chuckle or two. We’ve been working a bit too hard …

Agree. This is what it seems like in my social circle. Broadly speaking highly educated left leaning folks who got convinced by independence in first referendum. For normally perfectly capable people they same brainwashed/like they follow a cult.

spiderplantparty · 29/04/2023 12:03

Sadly, I think it may blow over too despite the obvious concerns from a number of different sources about the finances and a massive campervan.

SquidwardBound · 29/04/2023 12:44

Of course it will all blow over. A combination of zealous commitment to nationalism above all else will enable the SNP to play this as awful unionist bogeymen out to get them and prevent the Scottish people rising up to claim their independent nationhood etc.

And for everyone else, the generally dire state of Scottish politics means that there isn’t an obviously better alternative anyway. So it’ll fade into the same resignation in the face of mediocrity (at best) that makes the electorate so jaded.

Depressing really.

spiderplantparty · 29/04/2023 12:52

I feel incredibly disappointed in the Scot Nat zealots who either don't care about the financial problems or think they are manufactured by Westminster. From the resignation of Chapman as Treasurer, resignation of Joanna Cherry from the NEC, rumours in the press in 2021, loan from Murrell to the party and, resignation of the Auditors there are so many red flags even before the events of 2023 that people should be jumping up and down and demanding transparency.
