I'm beyond furious about this.

Absolutely nowhere does this sentence take into account the victim, and what their views and feelings about it might be. Nowhere. I really really couldn’t give a hoot how bad his upbringing was, how much he was abused as a youngster, telling the victim ‘oh but he’s had a tough life so we’ll let him off with it’ is the absolute lowest of the low.

EwwSprouts · 04/04/2023 22:14

Absolutely disgusted at this excuse of a sentence. He can get his rehabilitation therapy in prison.

HappyValet · 04/04/2023 22:15

What in gods name do you think the snp or the greens have to do with this... 🙄

Ah ok, no one has mentioned it to you but they are in charge of running the country into the ground

AthenaPopodopolous · 04/04/2023 22:17

Is this rape non-vaginal and infact rape per mouth, like fallatio? I’m wonder if this is what happened. I’ve no idea. Is it possible that there are degrees of rape?
Sounds fucking horrible anyway.

StJulian2023 · 04/04/2023 22:22

And he attacked her more than once: ‘various occasions between March and June 2018’.

Sentence is hideously lenient.

TeaMistress · 04/04/2023 22:25

Jesus wept...this sentencing essentially lets predatory teenagers under the age of 25 commit acts of rape and sexual violence with impunity...safe in the knowledge that the most the courts will do to them is give them a pat on the head and a bit of litter picking...what the hell kind of message does that send to the women of Scotland. This is an outrage to any right thinking person. I don't care how old someone is...if they rape someone they deserve to be jailed for as long a time as humanly possible and unable to hurt or rape anyone ever again. Do the politicians and the courts really hate women so much that they have essentially decriminalised rape.

CuriouslyDifferent · 04/04/2023 22:30

It’s disgusting.

It wasn’t a single incident either.

just shocking

And I actually hope some Scottish fathers ensure this vermin is dealt with correctly in the community.

Absolutely...madness like this makes it clear why people decide to take matters into their own hands...its my hope that the vermin who committed this crime will be dealt with by the men in the community....any decent Scottish dad or brother won't want this rapist anywhere near the women in their communities.

It's absolutely down to the SNP although of course they will never own it, they never own anything. Their policy has been to reduce the number of people going to jail . Some of it for sound reasoning but some of it just to make figures look better, PR, the jails are bulging and to save money because they haven't put in place any decent alternatives ( last bit as admitted by Keith Brown )

And here's where we end up.
Ironically the only person who spoke up with concern, at least in the BBC article Jan 2022, was the Tory MSP Jamie Green "He told Good Morning Scotland: "I think that many victims of crime will be quite worried and concerned about the sort of language that we are using here, especially those who have been the victims of, for example, gender-based violence or sexual crimes, wondering why on earth 24-year-olds will have a shorter sentence than someone who is just a few months older."

Did the SNP at the time or any time voice any concerns? A rapist walking essentially free seems to be exactly what we would get from the SNP/Greens. To think I once voted for both of them 😡

Whoiscomingtosaveyou · 04/04/2023 23:29

Yet another ill thought out piece of legislation from the superior mind of the SNP. 😡
How bad does it have to get before the people wake up?

MajorCarolDanvers · 05/04/2023 12:02

Wait till the FM finds out who
the Justice Secretary was who signed this off

FrostyFifi · 05/04/2023 12:38

So we're basically living in The Purge but all year.

SD25 · 05/04/2023 12:44

"on various occasions between March and June 2018"

so this probably means they were in a 'relationship' and the girl didn't know it was wrong and to speak out.

No it said he attacked her forcefully in a park. What I take from that is that he targeted her repeatedly and she took a while to be able to talk about it. Which is absolutely horrifying.

No. He threatened her and held her by the wrists.

The girl is also described as having "vulnerabilities" which aggravated the offense.
I dread to think what sentence the crime would have attracted without the non-aggravating factors.

It's not fair though to put people in a position where they make themselves criminals and potentially ruin their own lives.

This is why we are meant to have a justice system.

user567543 · 05/04/2023 14:34

Do you think we’re talking about a girl with SN and or LD here?

I don't think it can be argued that this ridiculous "sentence" is in any way justice for the repeated rape of a child. I agree people shouldn't be put in a position where they feel that their only option is to take the law into their own hands but in a situation like this you honestly couldn't blame anyone for doing so.

gawditswindy · 05/04/2023 21:37

I wondered if she was maybe a (for want of a better word) girlfriend, or a sibling of a friend or something. Someone he knew.
