Not long to go now until the SNP leadership election results come out. Thought it might be interesting to see who everyone thinks it will be plus any predictions eg, how long they will last, new cabinet, any fresh drama waiting in the wings etc. I reckon it could be Kate Forbes, picking up 2nd votes from Ash Reagan, but then I wonder if those who would vote according to the gender issue will have already left the party.

I don't have a vote and can see problems with all of them btw so interested to hear others' views.

Kate’s views are a dealbreaker for me. I don’t want a first minister who believes that same sex relationships are somehow lesser, that children should only be born to married parents only etc. I don’t get a vote as although I want an independent Scotland I’m not a party member.

808Kate1 · 27/03/2023 09:56

If by appalling views you mean her personal beliefs on same sex marriage and abortion then providing she keeps them out of the workplace as she has committed to doing them I don’t have a problem with that.

She demonstrably isn't committed to keeping them out the workplace. She literally said if she had been an MP at the time she would have voted against gay marriage "as a matter of conscience". If her personal life is guided by the big man in the sky then she simply can't be trusted to keep them out the workplace and there should be no place for her as First Minister.

This for me too. I initially thought I would vote for Kate, but her views abhor me and I just couldn’t do it - we absolutely can’t have a leader who fundamentally does not believe in equality, imo. I think it’s a close one between her and Humza and I hope he takes it. I have seen them both speak now and he came across far better. Ash Reagan is so out of her depth it’s embarrassing and my only concern is Kate picking up votes from her.

Paesano · 27/03/2023 09:59

It'll be Yousless. SNP are toast either way. Whilst I disagree with KF's views on same sex marriage, I can't see why she gets a harder time than HY - his views are likely to be similarly traditional- so I'd hope for KF as think she's marginally more competent. Going to enjoy them watching them all fall apart...

Yes I’m worried about Kate picking up second preferences from Ash. Hopefully it won’t be too close and Humza will get through on the first round.

I had high hopes for Kate initially but her views are abhorrent and simply not acceptable.

And meanwhile other SNP politicians are voting to put rapists in the female estate. Yousless can’t even bring himself to say Isla Bryson is a man.

If you want to see abhorrent views in action look no further.

Aphrathestorm · 27/03/2023 10:26

Humza has the same views as Kate he just lies about it.

I feel sick waiting for the result.

None of them will last past 2024 WM election.

Exactly. So on balance I'd rather have an honest bigot than a weak one. Kate Forbes is probably the lesser of the evils.

SirChenjins · 27/03/2023 10:43

Absolutely agree. Don’t be fooled by the man, he’s a liar and an incompetent.

mummywithtwokidsplusdog · 27/03/2023 10:46

Agree to HY is not being honest about his personal views. Interesting that KF has similar views and been hounded yet he’s gone through this process pretty unscathed?! Not excited to find out who it will be!

TokyoSushi · 27/03/2023 10:52

Apparently, we get the results around 2pm. I'd prefer Forbes over Humza, but I think for the most part, it doesn't particularly matter, they'll just be a caretaker until the 2024 WM election when the SNP will be out.

I agree that Humza will likely win the first round, but not get the 50% and then Forbes might squeak it by picking up Regan's 2nd votes. We'll see soon enough...

SerenaVanDerWoodsenHumphrey · 27/03/2023 10:53

Humza always sounds kind of full of himself to me.

Ash: “Everything to play for and we’ll find out on Monday. I haven’t advised anyone to vote for any other candidates. That would be up to the members to decide.”

Kate: “I think there’s no polling that has suggested in any way what the outcome will be. And, you know, I think ultimately there’s a decision to be made for SNP members.”

Humza: “My strategy has been to try to get as many first preferences as possible, obviously have a significant lead. And interestingly, polls that have come out as recently as this week, as recently as yesterday, in fact, show that I’m favoured among SNP supporters.”

Is Humza a time traveller from the future ???? And if so, can we send him back … er, forward?

annabelindajane · 27/03/2023 11:21

Humza has exactly same religious views as Kate but MSM won’t want to upset the Muslims in the country by questioning him . Quite ok to tear into Kate - a white Christian. Political correctness at work here.

StatisticallyChallenged · 27/03/2023 12:06

Agree that Humza has similar views, he's just lying about them.

This is a very generous timeline, especially if it’s Useless that wins the egg and spoon race today.

Well yes, there is that!

Aphrathestorm · 27/03/2023 14:10

Ash looks pissed off.

StatisticallyChallenged · 27/03/2023 14:15

She looks furious. I don't blame her - the party leadership pushed so hard.

Wonder if she and Forbes will stay in the party?

mummywithtwokidsplusdog · 27/03/2023 14:15

Interesting result! Less than 50% voting hy as first choice…

guinnessguzzler · 27/03/2023 14:16

I think he will seriously struggle tbh. Can't see him lasting or getting anything done

OP posts:
NowThatsWhatICall22 · 27/03/2023 14:17

That was close for KF. Looks like half the party didn’t want him too.

Let the next chapter of madness and numpty nonsense begin…

Aphrathestorm · 27/03/2023 14:19

Well now the interesting thing is who's going to be in his new cabinet.

Can't see him keeping Kate or bring back Ash!

StatisticallyChallenged · 27/03/2023 14:21

He's going to struggle to govern the party I think.

Catsolitude · 27/03/2023 14:32

Incredible that someone who has failed at every single cabinet job they’ve had is now FM.

Bless you for thinking he’ll be governing the party! He’s just the mouthpiece - Sturgeon’s supporters and the other stalwarts are the ones governing from the back.
