Who do you want to see as new First Minister?

And who do you think it'll be if they are different?

Not seen any threads on this yet!

My two cents -

I voted SNP when I was very young (Salmond) and under the impression they were a kinda catch-all working man's party who didn't do much to offend the left or right, but I stopped voting for them ages ago and recently started to actively despise them.

Normally I'm the polar opposite of the Reddit consensus and they seem to want Robertson but only, it seems, because they can't have Mhari Black (which is one MP I DO know and absolutely cannot stand). I feel like Forbes is the only one who'd bring them back to the centre and increase membership as she might attract everyone who left back.

So I suppose I'm a toss-up between Forbes who might pull them away from their more (imho) farcical policies and Black who might finally start to kill them dead in the water.

I do believe Sturgeon resigned because the recent polling data (where ALL age demographics agreed with the WM overturn including a large amount of SNP membership) showed that people vote SNP despite their progressive policies and not because of them. I reckon they knew it would really hurt them at the next election, and since she can't U-turn, the only thing left to do was step aside and let a new leader shift their direction.

I'm interested to know what people on here think though.

Humza is a talentless chump who is a puppet for Sturgeon and Murrell.
He has a litany of failures behind him so in that sense he’s a perfect fit to be FM.
If the rumours are true though, life could be about to get a bit trickier for Humza.
The Scottish Sunday Mail might make interesting reading.

While I don’t share Kate Forbes religious convictions, I’d take her honesty over Humza any day.
She is only 32 with very little experience and was only propelled into being Finance Minister when Derek Mackay, the pervert, had to leave office.
The SNP really are top notch, aren’t they.

I don’t know much about Ash Regan apart from her stance on the GRR which I applaud and admire.

Margarita45 · 23/02/2023 15:30

Well this is intriguing. Are you really going to make us wait until Sunday?!

ArabellaScott · 23/02/2023 16:15

I've seen so many rumours flying about now, it could be any one of several!

BigBoysDontCry · 23/02/2023 16:19

He is such a fud.

I don't actually have to clarify which "he" because they are all fuds of the highest order.

NowThatsWhatICall22 · 23/02/2023 16:30

🙄 if we’re really lucky, we might get Compston and Cox’s input too, after their US time difference breakfast.

Whatthediddlyfeck · 23/02/2023 16:33

I think we already know that the next leader has already been chosen by Mr&Mrs Sturgeon…like everything else, the party members will already have been told who they’re voting for

SirChenjins · 23/02/2023 16:34

Look on the bright side - as least My Connery is no longer here to give us his tuppence worth.

Is Yousaf really too thick not to have foreseen that?

Do the SNP still think the opinions of these wealthy, non- resident, non tax payers impress anyone?

I suppose they must, but it's very puzzling.

Budge up and share that popcorn!

A couple of the papers this morning are reporting Alex Neil’s comments that Humza deliberately arranged a diary clash ahead of the gay marriage vote as he was under pressure not to vote for it. If this is true (and I assume the press will hound him about this as they did KF), his position on gay marriage is actually the same as hers, he’s just far less honest. That’s surely got to hurt his campaign. That and the fact SNP voters seem more interested in other issues anyway if the Scotsman poll is anything to go by.

StatisticallyChallenged · 24/02/2023 08:19

I suspected as much re the priorities tbh - and note that cost of living, NHS etc are coming above independence.

MSPs are focusing on areas which the population just don't bloody care about. And I see Wings is saying that apparently MSPs are threatening not to elect Forbes as First Minister if she wins the member ballot.

They really do see themselves as dictators

Shelefttheweb · 24/02/2023 08:54

Don’t all parties’ MSPs elect the FM?

Yes, which is why wings is saying you could end up with Sarwar in Bute House.

Aphrathestorm · 24/02/2023 09:11

Yes theoretically the other parties could team up in a coalition to keep the SNP/greens out of government.

Scottish Labour teaming up with the tories would cause them severe problems in the GE though and with the head office down south.

But it's maybe for the best they cut the apron strings and become an independent Scottish Labour Party.

Shelefttheweb · 24/02/2023 08:54

Wait? WHAT? I did not know this! How interesting. In normal times I guess the SNP just close ranks and cosy up to the greens but the current fiasco leaves things wide open. That said, I’m not sure there is an alternative that would draw cross party support. Sarwar is closest. I miss Ruth Davison and Kesia Dugdale.

ArabellaScott · 24/02/2023 09:29

🍿

Shelefttheweb · 24/02/2023 09:36

But MSPs from other parties could elect an SNP MSP that a proportion of other SNP MSPs object to?
