In this day and age, is it not possible to get a computer to read the questions to you and to answer using voice software?

That technology is so widely available...

ResilienceWanker · 08/03/2022 19:48

And Yy on the up to the minute witch news... Even I don't blame the SNP for Scotland's treatment of witches in the 17th C Hmm so an apology seems rather pointless. A posthumous pardon could be better, but I suppose that requires a bit of actual effort rather than a podium speech. I note that even now they can't bear to admit that basically all the witches were women in their press releases... It's all "people accused of witchcraft". There could have been a big coven of transwitches though, I suppose... I don't know.

Y0uCann0tBeSer10us · 08/03/2022 19:56

Neil Oliver recently gave an interview where he says that everything about the SNP just looks small, especially in the face of war on the edges of Europe. He's exactly right on that. There are so many big issues that matter so much more, at home and abroad, and the SNP just always seem to be there with the meaningless gestures, student union level policy development and fluff like gender identity. Sometimes I just really wish there were some grown ups in charge.

WouldBeGood · 08/03/2022 20:46

We seem to be getting more and more parochial.

It’s a big change from the Scotland of the past, and it makes me sad.

Railing against Humza warning is not to let our guard down as Covid cases rise… backtrack on masks imminent..???

They need to understand people's MH and resilience is taking a pounding. Between covid and the lunatic that is Putin.
People cannot take much more.

Amen to that.

Agreed @Dinoteeth and @ssd

@WouldBeGood I think they'll backtrack on masks and to be honest I'll collapse in a heap and cry my eyes out if that happens. Dramatic I know but it's more what a return to masks represents and the snatching away of any hope that we might be getting out of this mess.
The past two years have been spent getting my hopes up then being crushed with disappointments so I guess I should be used to it by now.

Y0uCann0tBeSer10us · 10/03/2022 09:11

Humza crawling out from underneath his rock to warn about rising cases is making me nervous too. Logically it should seem fairly obvious that masks don't prevent spread to any significant extent, what with us having mask mandates (unlike other parts of the UK) and also the highest infection rates, but the SG don't do logic, they do gestures. I was told recently by an HCP that they are well aware that the surgical masks give very limited (some might say negligible) protection but they are all told they must wear them anyway as they make people 'feel' safer, even if they aren't actually making them safer. It's all about appearances, not outcomes.

Tiredoftiers · 10/03/2022 11:06

I was just thinking the same, I fully expect a u-turn on mask wearing, checking in, and test and protect ( when was it scheduled to go?).

I was so looking forward to getting rid of them, had a few days out with the kids recently which I didn't enjoy as much due to the masks. I wear a mask at work, and they don't hugely bother me but it really grated on days out.

mapleleavesreturn · 10/03/2022 11:19

Yes ooh look let's be seen to be doing something! Almost everyone I know in Edinburgh with a primary aged kid has had covid in the past two months, we are saturated. The horse has left the stable scot gov!

Dinoteeth · 10/03/2022 11:43

I read a headline she's still banning on about independence 2023 - ffs. We need stability not more instability.

Y0uCann0tBeSer10us · 10/03/2022 12:43

@Dinoteeth

I wouldn't worry it won't happen. She doesn't have the legal authority, Westminster will continue to say no, and legal challenges will almost certainly fail. Her only option is a wildcat illegal referendum which would lack credibility internationally, and she's already ruled this out. She knows this, Westminster knows this, but her supporters are restless and there's an election coming up. Blackford hinted that next years 'plans' would have to be postponed and it's gone down like a cup of cold sick with the faithful who, frankly, I think are only voting SNP for independence at this point. So has to throw them a bit of red meat to get through the local elections, and then it will be back-burnered again until the next set of elections when they'll ask for yet another 'mandate' for something they don't have the ability to deliver.
WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 10/03/2022 12:44

I'm hoping Humza is just trying to get some headlines for himself. I saw the dentist the other day patronising the nation again - 'numbers are up, but dinnae worry your wee heads about it, I'll be ditching my mask in most places on 21st March, but I'll still be taking care because covid is still here, blah blah'

RaraRachael · 10/03/2022 13:25

I asked a fellow teacher if, when masks are supposedly ending in a couple of weeks, would we still be expected to wear them in school. She replied without any thought, "Oh yes" as if we should take it as read. I was so taken aback that this seems to be the expected thing. It was my one grain of hope to be rid of the bloody things.
We've had lots of staff and pupils off with Covid - why can't we just get on with our lives and accept than it's here to stay, like flu, and that masks don't make the slightest bit of difference.

Pootle40 · 10/03/2022 16:25

I did a full day shopping in Edinburgh on Sunday without my mask. It was bliss. I would say 25% of folks not wearing them based on Sunday. Nobody batted an eyelid until I went into Seasalt and was approached by a sales assistant 'do you have a face covering?' (Me in my head 'call it what it is, it's a mask'). I said 'no', she said 'are you exempt?', I said 'no'. She then started to says 'it's a still a requirement in our Scottish stores to......'. I about turned and left carrying my bags from all the other normal places I bought from.

😆 @OnceUponAWhine

titsintiers · 10/03/2022 19:20

And after almost 2 fricking years, Covid has made it into our house. DH and DD1 +ve me and DD2-ve

When will this shit show end?!

Haudyourwheesht · 10/03/2022 20:22

I keep wondering when I'll get it, but nowt yet. I'm pretty anti- social though.

RaraRachael · 10/03/2022 22:12

According to OH, some shops in our town will still be asking people to wear masks after March 21st. Surely they can't do this - I'd have thought they could say they'd prefer people to wear them, but can't stop you going into their shops if you're not wearing one.

WouldBeGood · 10/03/2022 22:39

I now just go everywhere mask free and will continue to do so.

It’s stressful either way but people need to make a stand, unless they want to wear them.

Totally agree with this. Covid and Putin causing war and a huge cost of living rise and global warming. It's been one apocalypse after the other.

I will not be wearing a mask after 21st March. 10 days to go.

RaraRachael · 11/03/2022 13:48

So, apparently Covid rates are rising in Scotland. Having psyched myself up for unabated mask-free joy on the 21st, I hope she's not going to renege on this.

England's rates haven't rocketed since they were set free, but that won't stop her wanting to control us for a bit longer because "It's better to be cautious" remember. Yes, that's what we need after 2 years of this shit, war in Ukraine, rising fuel bills etc etc
