Aargh! It’s a Swinney rail!

Apparently he’s told the radio this morning that as the Covid situation has improved it’s time to get on with…. Independence planning! FFS

Oh FFS @WouldBeGood , never misses a bloody opportunity to be an arse, does he ? Well if covid is over I can stop buying masks and worry that DS will miss vital education if he tests positive then.

mibbelucieachwell · 24/01/2022 09:33

A disappointing start to your week @mapleleavesreturn Sad

Y0uCann0tBeSer10us · 24/01/2022 09:35

Think they’re seriously misreading the room there. The core faithful might want them to get on with planning a referendum (although I still don’t see how this can be legal), but I suspect the rest of us are feeling a bit beaten up after 2 years of restrictions and would rather have a period of stability/recovery. Another God knows how long of constitutional division, or a period focussing on getting the NHS back on track, undoing the educational damage and rebuilding the economy? Hmm, tough choice.

mapleleavesreturn · 24/01/2022 10:16

No kidding, my boss was not delighted this morning! It'll be ok!

Tomorrowisanewday · 24/01/2022 10:54

WouldBeGood - a repeat of Ms Sturgeon's message from yesterday's Sunday Show. I don't think I can go through another one Sad

Lockdownbear · 24/01/2022 11:10

The last thing Scotland needs is more division and whoo haa.
SNP have successfully united the old firm tells me all I need to know.

WouldBeGood · 24/01/2022 11:22

They did pledge to tackle sectarian divides 🤣🤣

Must be their only success 😂

Aaaaargh!!!!! Just what we need right now, there's not quite enough misery and division just at present.

Y0uCann0tBeSer10us · 24/01/2022 12:45

So just to be clear, the COVID situation has improved enough to divert attention and resources towards planning to split the country up, but not so much so that I can go into my child's school or make a routine GP appointment. Got it.

ResilienceWanker · 24/01/2022 13:05

What a pain mapleleaves. Hope she and the rest of you stay OK Flowers

I thought NS was putting referendum planning on the back burner until Scotland was free of coronavirus? That seemed to be their thinking this time last year. Is that it now, then? Or, as youcannot and others suggest, am I just imagining not being able to go into DSs school, having to wear masks, having to test and isolate for an illness that may not make me feel ill enough to have to stay in bed, not being able to get medical appointments and so on and so on...? Cos to me it certainly doesn't feel that we're back to normal. Hell - I've only been allowed to attend a large church service or theatre since midnight... not screaming "everything's under control" to me, really...

mapleleavesreturn · 24/01/2022 13:30

yes not to mention the waiting lists for anything 'non-urgent' - anyone see the hearing loss damning report for NHS Lothian about over 100 children being drastically failed:

"The root cause of these failures is identified as a lack of scientific leadership, knowledge, reflection and inquiry in the presence of a lack of routine and robust quality assurance processes."

That's pretty firm!

Scottishskifun · 24/01/2022 13:37

They will have looked at the stir in public feeling caused by Borris and wanted to capitalise on it......
Got nothing to do with covid being under control thats just an excuse!

Personally I would like to see them aort out the mess of NHS funding rather then spend 350 million on a divisive campaign after 2 years of hell! But what would I know as a voter......at least I'm not barred from voting feck no for being English! Wink

ElephantOfRisk · 24/01/2022 13:39

That's horrific @mapleleavesreturn.

Not a child, but DS1 (now 21) attended the GP with unexplained hearing loss over 18 months ago. He went to boots for hearing test who confirmed it and he is still no further forward, he did eventually get an appointment with a consultant but his tests had expired by then so he had to start again and is still waiting to be seen.

Obviously this doesn't have the impact on his speech development that would be involved if he was a young child and given that speech therapy referrals are apparently sharply up because of mask wearing, it's really really poor for these kids.

ResilienceWanker · 24/01/2022 13:49

Crikey. That's shocking! As it says, those delays will have affected the speech and language development of those children that will be so difficult to make up. What a shambles. I know it doesn't specifically pin it to covid restrictions, but I'm pretty sure those won't have speeded things up. Sad

And of course, don't forget the Scottish Government is encouraging people to stay at home as much as possible - until the situation with the pandemic improves. So we're asking that only those with an essential need to travel by bus apply at this time. So, yes, we're definitely back to normal here with the essential travel only rhetoric. Just the right time to be diverting priorities to a referendum campaign Angry

Y0uCann0tBeSer10us · 24/01/2022 13:54

"They will have looked at the stir in public feeling caused by Borris and wanted to capitalise on it......

I suspect you're probably right in their logic, but what's one got to do with the other? I think Boris is an incompetent chancer who should never have been made PM, and I really hope they force him out over this (just as soon as England have relaxed everything fully, providing more data that this is fine and restrictions elsewhere are pointless). I also feel really F*cking pissed off and insulted at the idea that after everything they've put Scotland through restriction wise they are now planning to launch us all straight into another Indyref campaign when we haven't even dealt with the aftermath of the pandemic yet! I mean FFS, read the room! We're all knackered and dealing with mental and physical health issues, children of all ages whose futures have been damaged by restrictions, businesses on their knees and probably a million other things. The last thing we need is yet more grievance-mongering.

mapleleavesreturn · 24/01/2022 13:58

absolutely, I'd like to have a bit of fun in the next few years, not have to hide from yes voting neighbours bedecked in saltires and badges again.

Scottishskifun · 24/01/2022 14:04

@Y0uCann0tBeSer10us oh I agree but you can see the ad campaigns already......"why should Scotland be run by Tory govt who had parties, did dodgy deals etc" and just ignore the fact that vast majority of decisions and failings are the result of the Scottish govt!

You see it all the time.....I don't like the SNP but don't want to be run by Tories.....except majority of things are already devolved and it's them who cock it up followed by the well if we weren't run by WM excuse time and time and time again!
More spending per person is given for Scotland for healthcare its the Scottish govt who divert it!
Oh and a lovely hard border for England because of EU membership attempt which the Spanish have confirmed time and time and time again they would veto and as again member can easily get it rejected......

patritus · 24/01/2022 14:05

But what would I know as a voter......at least I'm not barred from voting feck no for being English!

you would be if some people had their way @Scottishskifun

Some racist nutter popped up on Scotsnet last week warning"incomers" not to affect "our independence" and asking them not to vote if they settled here in Scotland!

Yep think about it. Asking people NOT TO VOTE
In a DEMOCRACY

mapleleavesreturn · 24/01/2022 14:12

Not to mention the folk that wanted anyone over a certain age disenfranchised as it's not their future!

Fingers crossed it isn't going to be soon...

Scottishskifun · 24/01/2022 14:36

@patritus oh great will have that joy to look forward to again.
Living quite rural I've already been subjected to it by a minority and it did get a lot worse during the last referendum. Remember it's not racist/culturalist if it's anti English sentiment Remember......or at least that's what I have been told.......Hmm

mibbelucieachwell · 24/01/2022 14:37

I assume it's all just political posturing on the part of the SNP anyway, as the Westminster government won't allow a referendum?

Then again, it was a conservative government that authorised the 2014 referendum....

The SNP are like wee kids drawing a chalk line across the lovely big playground because the big boys are being mean to them. Setting up their own football goals then crying when they lose their best footballers to the bigger half of the playground.

MaxNormal · 24/01/2022 14:38

patritus I had that from a "friend" before the last indyref. I'd lived and paid taxes here for many years, was already naturalised and had never lived anywhere in the UK other than Scotland.
I hadn't even expressed a strong opinion either way as at the time I genuinely was trying to weigh both sides up carefully.

Got a big rant about how I wasn't entitled to vote as I wasn't "Scottish", didn't matter how many times I said I was a citizen and a tax-paying resident, I apparently hadn't been born here so I shouldn't be allowed to vote.
Racist bitch.

ElephantOfRisk · 24/01/2022 14:41

That poster was suggesting that if no English people had voted then the "proper/real" Scottish people voting for independence would have been in the majority. But yes, welcome to Scotland, it's clearly not your future...Hmm

It does my head in and whilst I wouldn't begin to suggest that all SNP and/or independence voters are racist, there seems to be a lot of casual racism thrown around.
