Basic duty on the government to give us the correct information
Totally unacceptable for businesses to be shut down and life's ruined based on lies

Scottishskifun · 23/01/2022 12:32

And true to form NS saying the restrictions were "worth it" without producing ANY evidence and no difference between Scotland case rate per population and England's..........
Right so that evidence is where exactly......

IsurviveonCoffeeandWinein2021 · 23/01/2022 13:01

Has anyone seen their latest "public health" ad. They are giving out fucking badges that say be distance aware.

I can't even string a sentence to express how fucking batshit it is

heelforheelandtoefortoe · 23/01/2022 13:12

Does the SG require NHS staff to be vaccinated like in England?

Haudyourwheesht · 23/01/2022 13:22

I wonder how many business owners think the restrictions were 'worth it'. Especially considering how mild omicron has been. Another peak season completely destroyed.

Lockdownbear · 23/01/2022 13:22

Just me that thinks this is funny?
BBC headline NHS Wales looking to recruit unvaccinated NHS England staffSmile

Scottishskifun · 23/01/2022 13:44

Its definitely ironic @lockdownbear save our staffing crisis we will have you....

@heelforheelandtoefortoe no not currently I think they are seeing what pans out!

Also seen the badges story 55k........what a bloody waste of money again
It's crazy when community support charities are losing funding for vital work be it drug initiatives, elderly support or education schemes and then you see that sort of money spent on a badge......Angry

alicesfavouritepen · 23/01/2022 13:48

@StarryEyeSurprise

What's an underlying health condition though? Is asthma?
Yep that's one of them. I do agree that the facts should be reported but I'm also not keen on the suggestion that somehow these deaths are somehow acceptable. Is obesity an underlying health condition?
Tomorrowisanewday · 23/01/2022 13:50

Did anyone else see Nicola Sturgeon on the Sunday Show?

Scottishskifun · 23/01/2022 13:54

@alicesfavouritepen it's not a underlying health condition but an at risk factor (same as pregnancy) but many obese people will also have other underlying health conditions such as diabetes, blood pressure issues etc so in a way majority will fall under it anyway.

heelforheelandtoefortoe · 23/01/2022 13:55

what badges story?

Scottishskifun · 23/01/2022 13:56

Sorry should say severe obesity on its own does count (BMI over 40)

Scottishskifun · 23/01/2022 13:57

@heelforheelandtoefortoe

what badges story?

alicesfavouritepen · 23/01/2022 13:57

There was a really sad thread on Twitter today from a doctor who ended up hospitalised with omicron variant. She did have what she described as a very mild underlying health condition that doesn't impact her daily life and won't end her life prematurely. I really feel for these people.

heelforheelandtoefortoe · 23/01/2022 14:01

who the fuck is going to know what that badge means? or pay it any attention?

runningpink · 23/01/2022 14:09

The restrictions weren’t worth it for me. Mental health shot to pieces, friendships ruined, time with the children I cared for lost which I won’t ever get back and all hope for planning and doing anything was lost.

I would rather have taken my chances. Live my life for the past two years and if I died then I died but at least I wouldn’t be raging at the time spent wasted being stuck at home.

alicesfavouritepen · 23/01/2022 14:16

@heelforheelandtoefortoe

Tbh I think it's a good idea. It might provide some reassurance for vulnerable people. Like you say though it's important that everyone knows what it means so they need to ensure they raise awareness of it. If someone chooses not to pay attention to it then I think that's pretty pager and cruel.
alicesfavouritepen · 23/01/2022 14:18

I think a lot of people feel like that @runningpink . It's been a horrible two years Sad

mapleleavesreturn · 23/01/2022 14:33

I wonder at the need for govt subsidy for badges - tbh if I saw someone mask wearing past when we are finally free of them, I'd assume they needed extra space and be extra careful around them.

Do we need an additional signal? There are plenty of higher priority needs and there are already 'space needed' high viz jackets some people have and wear.

It does seem like they had a small amount of money left and to plump for a gesture, classic snp.

Scottishskifun · 23/01/2022 14:42

@alicesfavouritepen I would agree with you on the badges if something had been setup for people who are mask exempt an awareness campaign etc (a sunflower landward is NOT meant for mask exemption it's meant for hidden disability ). But it wasn't.

So for the last 10 months I've faced abusive comments for some people it's near years....yet when it's a suggestion that plays to what they want suddenly their is money and funding available?????!!!!

alicesfavouritepen · 23/01/2022 14:51

But many people did use the sunflower lanyard for that purpose and many people chose not to. Generally as far as I can work out from threads on here they chose not to because they, understandably, felt that they shouldn't have to have on display that they they had a medical condition or exemption. I'm not aware of anyone not using it because it's the wrong type of lanyard or not covid specific tbh. Did you not wear it for that reason? Would you rather have a covid specific one?

Anything that makes people vulnerable people who let's face it are still at some level of risk feel better is a good thing in my book.

WouldBeGood · 23/01/2022 14:52

Maybe they could put special Be Badge Aware signs on the motorway?

OP posts:
mibbelucieachwell · 23/01/2022 15:01

So that'll be hepa filtration units and properly ventilated buildings then @alicesfavouritepen and masks that actually work?

I reluctantly got one in the end but mostly no I don't use a sunflower landyard because my friends son has autism and I know what the landyard means. They have also suffered abusive comments for a 11 year old because mask police public have a pre conception that sunflower landyard is just an excuse. Just as many exempt people on mn even when wearing one have done.

Yes a proper system but it's too late now, where is the advert campaign for giving people respect who can't wear one.....even NS today again reiterated that wearing a mask isn't a hardship......so again certain members of public will feel justified in being rude, abusive etc.

By all means protect vulnerable people but to ignore what many people have received whilst trying to live their lives because it doesn't fit in with their messaging whilst social distancing does is not only showing hypocrisy its ignoring what is going on under their noses because of their language.

alicesfavouritepen · 23/01/2022 15:05

@mibbelucieachwell

Absolutely. That should be happening, of course, but I'm not going to begrudge or ridicule vulnerable folk wearing a badge that asks for a bit more personal space.
