I do find it mildly amusing that Scotland and Wales both very quickly changed the rules when the rugby said OK well we will have the games in England and have found standiums to do so..........

Yep so it's about science yeah.........not losing face to England or millions of pounds right......and I say this as a huge rugby fan with a season ticket for many years!!!!!

Lockdownbear · 22/01/2022 20:18

The only reason they're back in stadia is because of the rugby

Yip and people know it, but how much damage would have been done to the Indy campaign to have Scotlands 'home' game in England?

MaxNormal · 22/01/2022 20:24

Is Sturgeon a rugby fan then?

ElephantOfRisk · 22/01/2022 20:25

Well played by the SRU but it shouldn't have come to that really.

No-one reporting the ONS freedom of info request that says 17k people died from covid without underlying conditions rather than the 150k reported. Better to just keep the fear going eh? Another one who is hacked off at the motorway signage still being used for covid stuff and i'm sick to the back teeth of "stay safe", what does that even mean?!?

ElephantOfRisk · 22/01/2022 20:27

I'd doubt it, it's people having fun and we all know what Scotgov think about fun Grin. I think it was more that it's the national team so would be pretty embarrassing for the government for them to play home games in England and also they sing about Scotland beating the English so always good for a bit of propaganda....
Scottishskifun · 22/01/2022 21:03

@MaxNormal

Is Sturgeon a rugby fan then?
Not really. Think it's more Scottish govt didn't anticipate them moving the games to Newcastle and having a plan in place to do so as they didn't for the summer games just had very limited capacity.

Like others say not great for national team to go play in England because of Scottish rules the year they start looking at an independence campaign!

Lockdownbear · 22/01/2022 21:15

@MaxNormal

Is Sturgeon a rugby fan then?
Not so much a rugby fan she's the sort to use any sport / game / competition to do a bit of flag waving.

@MarshmallowFondant

Checking in for another rail/rant.

The masks thing is doing my head in, England dropping them again in all settings, here we still have to wear them everywhere. Nobody is pulling them up on masks in schools AT ALL.

As for the GP thing - does anyone in Scotland have a way of contacting their GP which is not phoning up?? Lots of MN posters in England appear to have video calling etc - we have none of that. We can't even email the surgery. It's still locked up and you are not allowed over the doorstep unless a receptionist in PPE lets you in.

My GP has phone lines only. So need to call in for appointments/repeat prescriptions & no video calls. It's a nightmare. I had to call 10 times the other day to get in the queue to leave a voicemail for a repeat prescription. There's no separate phone line for that.

I called 50+ times the other day to get a phone appointments.

runningpink · 22/01/2022 21:25

@Lockdownbear

Can I a a moan about motorway gantry signs? You know the digital message signs, yesterday on the M74 stuck in a massive que, because traffic was diverting from the M8. Normally you'd expect the signs to say Slow for 5 miles or something relevant to the jam your in. No not yesterday Get your booster vaccine Seriously the M8 was closed for hours yesterday. They'd changed some to say the M8 was closed but didn't say how long the jam was on the M74 RRRRR
Those signs bug me so much. There were so may the other week I started to read it as ‘Get your Rooster vaccine!’

Also the constant adverts of ‘Omicron is the new highly infectious variant.’ Eh thats last years news!

rookiemere · 22/01/2022 21:33

I know I'll celebrate the day that the motorway signs go back to actually making one aware of driving related information, even if its only "Don't drive when tired"

Haudyourwheesht · 22/01/2022 21:59

@MaxNormal

Is Sturgeon a rugby fan then?
She likes to have to support of rugby fans.
ElephantOfRisk · 22/01/2022 22:05

I may have watched too much Narcos, but I'd happily have those gantries used to string up the headless bodies of some senior people and people who appear in covid adverts - but I'd better leave that there... Grin

Lockdownbear · 23/01/2022 00:43

Elephant - you might get that deleted. I only wanted someone to have a face mask stitched on.

I was going to write sewn / sown but my crappy Scottish education let me down.

Lockdownbear · 23/01/2022 00:44

Maybe they don't because it understandably might look like they don't give a shit about people with underlying conditions.
WouldBeGood · 23/01/2022 09:48

It should be reported though, because it’s a fact.

OP posts:
StarryEyeSurprise · 23/01/2022 10:03

What's an underlying health condition though? Is asthma?

WouldBeGood · 23/01/2022 10:06

Having the correct stats isn’t a moral position though. Just facts.

Then one can draw one’s own conclusions.

OP posts:
WouldBeGood · 23/01/2022 10:10

So I’m railing against being given false statistics, clearly with the aim of causing fear and ensuring compliance with draconian restrictions.

OP posts:
Lockdownbear · 23/01/2022 10:11

Have ScotGov not been reported to the Statistics Commission for mis representation?

I really don't think it's right that people have had businesses ruined and lives curtailed by miss representation of facts.
People have really suffered a it's not those at the top.

The nightclubs might get a pittance to help keep the afloat for being shut but you can guarantee the bar staff (students) DJ, bouncers and the Sunday morning cleaner won't see a penny of that money.
Nor will the taxi drivers, hairdressers, beauticians or the clothes shops. The hidden forgotten people who make money from people going out.

You stop parties where is the compensation for the balloon people and the cake bakers?

ElephantOfRisk · 23/01/2022 10:18

The media have also been guilty of this which is a reason they won't want to report.

Maybe people with underlying health issues would be able to access better identification and treatment if resources weren't diverted to the frightened well? The money wasted on testing, the focus on covid to override anything else etc as well as the impact on the mental health, business, economy etc. All built on lies.

WouldBeGood · 23/01/2022 10:35

They have indeed @Lockdownbear but appear unrepentant.

Yes, it’s the ripple effect that destroys businesses and therefore lives far beyond the specific closures.

Good point, @ElephantOfRisk.

It also undermines public trust in government. It’s really important not to skew public health information like this.

Haudyourwheesht · 23/01/2022 11:13

I got an email from my hairdressers saying they'd had loads of December cancellations in case anyone had not been able to make an appointment. I do think they (whether wilfully or otherwise) forget that if your Christmas night out is cancelled folk also cancel the tan, nails, make up, hair appointments. The outfit is returned. The taxi is cancelled. The hangover brunch for the next day is not necessary. We have a significant industry built around nights out.

Scottishskifun · 23/01/2022 11:24

@starryeyesurprise yes it includes asthma but more acute asthma. There is a range of conditions from diabetes which a lot of general population have in Scotland to severe illnesses such as heart disease and cancer.

@lockdownbear yes they have multiple times now and complaint upheld.....

They have the data available to them, same with the information about cases caught in hospital but doesn't mean they wish to release it.

It's been a major frustration of trying to see the basic data info. I agree they don't wish to release it and try to use data to scare monger inaccurately.

I don't think there is a difference between a death because of covid for someone with diabetes compared to someone without its still someone's loved one. But there is a big difference between someone who died of another reason but covid is still put on the death certificate as they had a positive case and this gets counted.

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 23/01/2022 11:27

Yep, my hairdresser had almost all of his clients cancel at the last minute on the Saturday before Christmas. And he's still already on restricted numbers e.g. he might do two men's cuts while another client has colour developing etc. I felt really bad for him. No passing traffic from people pleading to be squeezed in like he used to get either. I've had to cancel on my nails woman twice - she's brilliant about it and has offered to stay late to get me in at alternative date and time, but that's clearly because she can't afford to lose appointments. I've been keeping up with going in to get my nails done even when socialising was pretty restricted as I know a lot of her clients aren't around or going in because of WFH. Again, no passing trade popping in on the off chance of an appointment either.
