I got Pfizer and was a bit ill, but nothing major (and not in the same league as the AZ primary course I had which had me laid up in bed for days!) I do also have the impression that Moderna leads to worse side effects talking to colleagues who got this. Moderna is also worse for myocarditis compared to Pfizer according to a study I saw, and I think I remember seeing that some countries were restricting its use in younger age groups. Could be misremembering though.

Scianel · 20/02/2022 21:20

@Y0uCann0tBeSer10us thank you. I've got much the same impression as you.
DH will need to have his booster in March when he gets back to the UK unless the European countries he's due to work in shortly thereafter have a big change to their border entry criteria and I'd really rather he gets Pfizer but obviously we're not exacty given much choice.

Cismyfatarse · 20/02/2022 22:05

@WouldBeGood

Is it from tomorrow no masks in class?
No. 28th. Couldn't give it to us even a week earlier.

Recovered from Covid in time to make it back to the classroom tomorrow. I can't say I will be worrying much about enforcing the rules, given it is only 5 days and I am positively jammed full of antibodies.

Am sorry about the Queen though. She would keep dragging me out clubbing....

ResilienceWanker · 20/02/2022 22:07

@Scianel

ResilienceWanker where was that? So I can roundly avoid them. Last coffee shop i was in was Tinderbox and half the customers weren't wearing masks to walk round and staff and customers alike ignored the check in thing. They'll see me again.
Was the Costa at princes/ Waverley mall Blush Only the classy joints, me... (there was a Reason). The vast majority of places, you're right. No one's bothered since the summer.

I had moderna too (Edinburgh, but went to a site in midlothian), and felt a bit wiped out for a day or so afterwards, but not too bad.

Grin She's a right raver that one...

Thanks @Cismyfatarse

I had AZ for first two then booster was Pizer and I felt awful after that one. Another reason it puts me off having any more boosters if I’m going to feel that crap. When chances are covid would be pretty mild for me

I can’t take any more doom and gloom messages of protecting us. I shall be avoiding the news on Tuesday

Tomorrowisanewday · 20/02/2022 22:41

I had Pfizer for all 3 of mine, and was so ill after the booster - heart palpitations, and racing heart beat (130 bpm) for most of the night. I had the flu jab at the same time, and wondered if it was the combination of both

WouldBeGood · 21/02/2022 04:06

Railing against the weather! This is mental. I’m sure the world is ending!

If they’d told us in the 80s that global warming would involve constant apocalyptic gales I’d have used less hairspray.

Not a gust of wind where I am! I was just reading another thread about Franklin and it sounds horrendous.

2022HereWeCome · 21/02/2022 09:41

I'm booked in for my booster early March. I've avoided the big vaccination centres in Edinburgh as these seem to be Moderna. Off to a smaller centre in the vague hope of getting Pfizer. I'm not sure I'm going to have boosters every year, even being over 50, as I've had covid and it was no worse that many many other viruses I've had. The problem with age related cut-offs is that they take absolutely no account of your general state of health - you can be an extremely healthy 55 year old or an obese, diabetic 35 year old. I do think we need a more balanced approach to whom a booster would benefit ...

Y0uCann0tBeSer10us · 21/02/2022 10:17

Listening to Kay Adams this morning there was this guy on proudly describing how he harassed people on buses who didn’t wear masks as if this was a normal and reasonable thing to do. Apparently some women said they were asthmatic but couldn’t show him any proof! WTAF have we done to society that people feel virtuous when demanding evidence of medical history from complete strangers. He doesn’t want any change in messaging because then he won’t be able to do this any more. I’d say that’s a strong argument for a change in messaging towards common sense and personal responsibility personally.

Scianel · 21/02/2022 10:21

Thanks all for the feedback on the boosters. I'm also hoping DH can swerve moderna 2022HereWeCome although it does sound like it's also a bit of a luck of the draw thing in terms of reaction. I just really worry about this stuff due to my past medical history. He wouldn't even be having it if he wasn't over a barrel with work travel.

Y0uCann0tBeSer10us I can genuinely say I'm sorry that man has not yet received a punch in the face. I suppose there's time yet given how much longer we're likely to have masks.

Scottishskifun · 21/02/2022 10:26

@Y0uCann0tBeSer10us horrendous but I'm not surprised and yes it's the messaging which makes people feel justified in these types of actions. But when I have stated this in the past occasionally get but it's not the Govt fault there are idiots......this man proves my point perfectly that actually it is the govt fault!

patritus · 21/02/2022 10:43

@Scianel I know this is a very unscientific study but in my household 3 of us have had the booster (Lothian)
1got Pfizer and 2 Moderna.
1 Moderna had a pretty sore arm for couple days but zero other symptoms, and the other 2 wouldn't even have thought they'd had a jag🤷🏼‍♀️
Just goes to show everyone is different
None of us had Moderna 1st time round which I was quite happy about as there did seem to be lot of side effects at original dose

Scianel · 21/02/2022 10:45

@patritus thank you, it's reassuring to read that there are lots of people who escape with no/minimal side effects. Should hasten to add that it's me doing the worrying, not DH who will actually be getting it!

OnceUponAWhine · 21/02/2022 11:19

I heard the mask guy too. It really is here that is different- I’ve returned from yet another work trip and quite frankly, the oppressive vibe is present as soon as you officially step back into Scotland- that’s by air and road, my recent experience. The messaging is omnipresent, the masks for compliance, not science sake.
Dropped child back at school this morning- school teams still wearing masks outside in the playground to greet the children. So depressing- for staff too- absolutely unnecessary outside. Still no smiles to greet the children.

Oh and speaking of schools, I see the Swinneybot (in his legacy role) and others have allegedly been tampering…or should we say ‘making amends to suit their agenda’ with the review of Scotland’s education curriculum. Lib Dems calling them out over the amends they’ve been able to do. Times have asked for the original report to be published.

Yet another thing to rail against, gawd ScotGov are a disgrace, IMO.

WouldBeGood · 21/02/2022 12:43

I’m in Lanarkshire and was told that all NHS Lanarkshire boosters were Pfizer, though that was a few months ago now.

Scianel · 21/02/2022 12:45

@WouldBeGood that's useful thanks!

I see there's now a delay on the cabinet meeting as Sunak wants to scrap free testing and Jabbit doesn't. Wonder who will carry the day.

WouldBeGood · 21/02/2022 12:48

Ha! I just saw that. NS railing about it on Twitter, maybe she should pop on here? 😄

I’m team Sunak on this one

OP posts:
mapleleavesreturn · 21/02/2022 12:49

I'm definitely in favour of limiting it, so many people I know who are covid terrified have gotten into an unhealthy obsessive lft testing situation and it's bad for the environment and mental health to be constantly testing.

mapleleavesreturn · 21/02/2022 12:50

Scot gov is still stoking the anxiety with the test before you go ads, unsurprising that NS Twitter rail!

IsurviveonCoffeeandWinein2021 · 21/02/2022 12:50

Was just coming in to say NS is ranting on Twitter but you all beat me to it.

So how would this play out. They stop free testing surely that would have to mean other measures all go? You can't isolate for something you don't know if that's what you have surely. Employers won't put up with that

Lockdownbear · 21/02/2022 12:57

The other thing I'd if isolation money £500 is stopping, and you have to pay for a test then nobody will test at all - good way of getting the numbers downWink

OnceUponAWhine · 21/02/2022 12:58

It isn’t free testing, it costs a fortune (imported plastic waste for starters, and could be better spent on preventative measures across the health service, healthy eating campaigns, mental health services etc, etc. Even just the spend on the test before you go ad campaigns is an utter waste of money and directly targets those that will probably require MH support as we all return to normal. NS has a cheek railing about it, using it as a squirrel to deflect from the shitshow that is NHS Scotland wait lists from covid shutdown and ongoing measures at present.
