Will it ever end?

Thanks and agree @Lockdownbear. It took me about 20 years to persuade DH it was okay to leave some things plugged in overnight (he wanted to record something that was on late) and yet he is perfectly happy with the alarms we have as well. So there is someone who has a reason to be very aware of fire and is therefore pretty risk averse, that isn't really buying that the new rules are going to improve anything for our circumstances. I'm not saying they won't for anyone, but not for us.

mapleleavesreturn · 31/01/2022 16:13

So sorry to hear that elephant - how awful. A fire plan is a good idea

ElephantOfRisk · 31/01/2022 16:27

Make sure that DC always know where the house keys are if you need them to unlock the doors from the inside. It doesn't need to be an elaborate plan. Just tell DC they need to get out asap and give them different options.

WouldBeGood · 31/01/2022 16:31

Because my house is new, it has a lock with no key on the inside to prevent that problem @ElephantOfRisk.

The downside is that my friend’s small child can escape out the front at will!

As can someone with dementia, as happened with my dad🙈

mapleleavesreturn · 31/01/2022 17:00

It's a good point about keys

ElephantOfRisk · 31/01/2022 18:50

My house is about 19 years old @wouldbegood but back in the day we would have just had a night latch type thing. It's a bit of a pain having to use the key all the time as you can't leave it in the door or too near the door for security but you need it handy for emergencies. We also have a side door and two sets of french doors so plenty of downstairs options, but if required I could just smash the glass in those. Not completely easy but i've got heavy chairs that would do the job.

Cismyfatarse · 31/01/2022 19:06

Does anyone think there will be any movement at all tomorrow on the situation in schools. Surely she has to talk about it properly now. People are clubbing and attending mass events but stick a teacher at the front and masks must be worn.

Please, please some good news.

WouldBeGood · 31/01/2022 19:12

God. I hope so @Cismyfatarse

The masks need to go

OP posts:
ElephantOfRisk · 31/01/2022 19:17

I hope so but she might want to hang on just a wee bit longer...aka to be reviewed in 3 weeks. Hmm

I'm angry and I don't even have a kid in school!

Cismyfatarse · 31/01/2022 19:59

Even a gradual withdrawal of masks. Or allowing personal choice.

She cannot continue to ignore the needs of teenagers.

WouldBeGood · 31/01/2022 20:05

Personal choice would be good. If people feel unsafe they can wear the n95 ones.

Exactly this!

We didn’t go around like this for all the other illnesses that the vulnerable etc were at risk from. We need to make our own judgement calls now

It’s common sense. I never go and visit my gran for example if I have a cold or don’t feel 100%, this isn’t a new thing it’s what I’ve always done!

runningpink · 31/01/2022 20:47

And I want to rail about the constant patronising covid adverts that are everywhere

Also if I hear someone say ‘stay safe’ again then I may commit murder!

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 31/01/2022 22:25

Oh god, the adverts. What is it about any kind of government ad in Scotland that it has to be so patronising? I manage to avoid adverts mostly but caught one about boosters the other day. Hmm

runningpink · 01/02/2022 07:30

They are everywhere, radio, tv. Spotify, newspapers, busses, shop windows etc

It’s too much and makes it more depressing!

WouldBeGood · 01/02/2022 08:06

I’ve just railed quite satisfyingly on the SG covid well-being survey 😃

OP posts:
Lockdownbear · 01/02/2022 08:33

How do you get into the survey?
I failed in my attempt yesterday- think it could be therapeutic to have a good rant.

WouldBeGood · 01/02/2022 08:42

SG Covid well-being study

I found it very therapeutic!

IKeptYouLikeAnOath · 01/02/2022 08:44

For some reason the Scottish accents make those adverts even more annoying and patronising. It's always some middle aged woman who sounds like she's permanently dressed in a pinny, like a 21st century Ma Broon.

WouldBeGood · 01/02/2022 08:48

Yes, @IKeptYouLikeAnOath 🤣. They never talk like anybody I’ve ever heard talking in real life!

OP posts:
ElephantOfRisk · 01/02/2022 09:14

I looked but didn't complete it yet. So skewed to wanting folk to say that masks are the easiest thing. No way to design a survey that is actually meaningful and representative.

Surely the answer to what would make you feel safe is not having people with penises in women's single sex places? Or maybe we'd feel safer with a return to free speech or by getting rid of the corrupt leaders?

WouldBeGood · 01/02/2022 09:21

I said I’d feel safer if they scrapped all restrictions and focussed on issues that matter. Masks the most difficult.

OP posts:
WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 01/02/2022 09:40

It's like they have to squeeze in as many particularly scottish words to scream how different and special we are.

Now, I know it's a wee shame for the bairns, but it's awfy scary oot there with that pandemic, so go get yerself a wee booster jag and protect your granny. Blah, blah...

On the survey I said I'd feel safer without penises in spaces segregated by sex and having a government focusing on rebuilding the country post pandemic instead of focusing on independence and gender reform. Managed to throw in that the scary thing had been living somewhere where the NHS wasn't resilient enough to cope with the crisis because the government who'd been in charge for 14 years had ignored warnings it wouldn't withstand a pandemic. Also had a bit of a rail about being asked about my gender identity and not my sex in a survey about well-being and the impact on health data collection, missed opportunities to ascertain whether either sex had been more impacted. It was all quite cathartic. Even if no-one will pay attention!

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 01/02/2022 09:42

Oh, I might also have said that perhaps ministers should keep their masks on from 7.30 - 4.30 like the school kids and questioned why they needed to take them off in the chamber. Or when taking selfies at indoor events.
