Outdoor masking - aye right - is this her attempt to flag wave at the Rugby?

Now children you must sit quietly 🤫 and not take your mask off 😷 not even for a drink of water or beer 🍺🍼. Remember children sit quietly no jumping around!

I'm going to speak to the nice surgeon people at the NHS and see if everyone can be fitted with masks, sewn on so you can't loose them now.

Good children

Scottishskifun · 12/01/2022 08:48

Ha from attending the rugby regularly I think most will take their masks off unless its freezing cold and they want to keep warmer! They won't ban drinks at seats as this is a huge revenue for them and stewards and 1-2 stewards per section aren't going to do much for enforcement 😂
A mask wouldn't stop anything with how close you are sat to each other only thing not looking forward to is the increased requirement to check vaccine passports up from 20% to 50% as it will slow things down!

titsintiers · 12/01/2022 08:53

It's gets more like Gilead by the day.

Lockdownbear · 12/01/2022 09:31

Realistically I think most will be mask free too, slowly sipping a beer unless they ban food & drink inside the grounds which again stops the casual catering staff gettinga shift.

WouldBeGood · 12/01/2022 09:55

Everyone needs to stop complying. It’s the only way out.

OP posts:
Lockdownbear · 12/01/2022 10:43

Can you imagine the look on her face to announce masks outdoors only for a stadium worth of mildly drunk rugby fans to stand unmasked with pint in hand.😱
She'd be bouncing.

But whatever I really can't see her going for masks outdoors and nobody would comply.
It would actually encourage more people to meet inside out of sight. Nobody knows what goes on behind closed doors.

I find it all incredibly frustrating. The data are all suggesting that this latest wave is far less severe than feared, probably because of the high level of immunity we have, and it's quite clear that no amount of 'rules' in hospitality or whatever makes the slightest bit of distance, despite how JL and NS would like to spin it. Down in England there is a strong impetus to phase out remaining restrictions on the basis on diminishing returns, and as a result they have been living and continue to live in much greater freedom than we do. They are no worse off for it. Yet Sturgeon just can't seem to bring herself to let go of the control she has over Scots. Even when her hand is forced and she relaxes a rule like the outdoor gatherings one, she then tightens others to compensate (and is it really practical to check 30000 vaccine passes? It will cause major queues and take an age!). She suggests that in the coming weeks she might relax rules in hospitality, but then she might extend vaccine passes too. She seems to have forgotten that schools exist altogether, but that 'masks till October' edict doesn't seem to be shifting any time soon, despite increasing evidence that the masks worn by children most often do little to stop spread anyway. I'm just really sick of being thrown some crumbs every now and then with the expectation that I should be grateful for it, and stop complaining because 'COVID'. I'm British too, so why can't I have the same rights as fellow Brits in England? Who up here is pushing to have restrictions dropped, to try and bring a bit of balance to things?

Scottishskifun · 12/01/2022 11:00

@Y0uCann0tBeSer10us the only one who has partly challenged aspects is Douglas Ross Confused to which Sturgeon usually starts with a rant about the tories and Westminster instead of answering the questions especially surrounding businesses!
And then also nobody wants to agree with a Tory......I mean I struggle each time I see he's come out with something reasonable as I can't stand him it causes a real internal struggle!

TeenTraumaTrials · 12/01/2022 11:00

@titsintiers

It's gets more like Gilead by the day.
Was just about to say this
mapleleavesreturn · 12/01/2022 11:01

Slow sticky decision making is scot gov's covid hallmark, hospitality and tourism aren't getting like for like if sometime during low season they get a relaxation of restrictions.

Lockdownbear · 12/01/2022 11:04

Yip incredibly frustrating. They won't drop masks in schools until England do it again but my guess is England will ditch them by mid February at the latest.

I might just send that masks article around as ask people to tell me they can honestly say masks are 100% for kids to be wearing.

Y0uCann0tBeSer10us · 12/01/2022 11:08

I know what you mean @Scottishskifun, it comes to something when the only people speaking out for your rights are the Tories! But I think the political aspect of this is the problem. It's the Tories down south who are driving England's freedoms with all the other parties taking the opposite view automatically because 'They're Toarries!'. So any dispassionate argument based on actual facts or data goes out the window. Another reason it's all so bloody frustrating.

mapleleavesreturn · 12/01/2022 11:13

It's a shame trump was in power during the kick off of covid too as democrats who in other respects have a lifetime of evaluating risk correctly seem to not be able to put covid risk in proportion to other harms.

There have to be a lot of left leaning people on the ground who believe that the harms being done to people by restrictions are as important as covid but somehow the political leadership on the left doesn't reflect that, the right was/is in power so they have taken their stance as being the toughest on covid as vote winning.

GoldenOmber · 12/01/2022 11:23

LibDems have been loud about their opposition to vaccine passports but haven’t heard as much from them on the case for actually lifting restrictions (now? soon? ever?).

mibbelucieachwell · 12/01/2022 14:12

The Lib Dems oppose the vaccine passports too. Although, the Westminster Lib Dems oppose it not because it's a restriction on liberty or an infringement of medical privacy but because they say there's there's evidence to support their effectiveness. Which is a good argument reason imo, but not the only reason.

mibbelucieachwell · 12/01/2022 14:15

Sorry I didn't see @GoldenOmber's post about the Lib Dems.

Hmm At Doris apologising for the works BYOB event in the no 10 garden as it might be perceived by people to be breaking the rules. I wouldn't be surprised if some or other technicality is found that lets him off. People who work together anyway, socially distanced blah blah.

Y0uCann0tBeSer10us · 12/01/2022 14:22

I can't see Boris surviving this tbh, too many high profile Tories are publicly expressing outrage. And the 'thought it was a work do' line is just farcical.

Lockdownbear · 12/01/2022 14:27

I doubt he'll survive it either. But who the heck would take over from him?

Would Ruth Davidson be interested?

Scottishskifun · 12/01/2022 14:29

I mean someone extremely senior is really baying for his blood with all these leaks which progressively have got worse!

It's horrific what has gone on I'm just wondering what the agenda is after they get what they want of a resignation......as in who comes next ConfusedBlush

Lockdownbear · 12/01/2022 14:35

Well thats a thought 🤔
What other leaks have they potentially still got to releases - that's what will be concerning him.

Y0uCann0tBeSer10us · 12/01/2022 14:36

I would love it to be Ruth Davidson, but I don't think she qualifies as she's not an MP. Hope it's someone who's not a lockdown enthusiast - maybe Rishi Sunak? He seems to have impressed a few people during the pandemic.

Pootle40 · 12/01/2022 14:37

@titsintiers

It's gets more like Gilead by the day.
I said exactly this back in March 2020!
Lockdownbear · 12/01/2022 14:38

I can't imagine it will be Sunak was he not getting slated for being missing in action just before Christmas when England was trying to introduce new curbs.
