Aw, that’s cute @BlameItOnTheBlackStar.

Yes, there was Nutella, and the tiny peanut butter pots. And bagels are new 😃

I also love the light up makeup mirrors: my slap is expertly applied today cos I could see 🤣

Reading that Javid message is that 2022 UK needs to learn to live with covid and more restrictions should be a very last resort..........

New years sweep stake anyone to if Strugeon will take the same approach.....my bet is not and we will continue on the lectures about need to be cautious, in the publics interest, won't apologise for protections etc etc etc.

heelforheelandtoefortoe · 01/01/2022 14:56

shame we don't have any elections this year. Would be interesting to see if voting preferences have changed....

2022HereWeCome · 01/01/2022 15:05

I'm railing because I'm almost certain I have Covid - awaiting PCR test result following positive LFT. Irony is that I am feeling better today than I was on Thurs when I got a negative LFT. Didn't do PCR as the only symptom I had was a hideous headache.

Anyway, if I got Covid the only possible place I could have got it from was from being trapped on princes street in Edinburgh (ie outdoors) trying to navigate getting to Santaland (as no one in the house has seen or been anywhere else). The stupid one way system now means that everyone is crammed together into a very small space which is completely counterproductive to SD. Yet more unintended consequences of trying to keep us safe ...

WouldBeGood · 01/01/2022 15:13

Oh, @2022HereWeCome that’s a bugger!

OP posts:
rookiemere · 01/01/2022 15:17

@2022HereWeCome aw jeez, I hope you don't have it, but when I saw those queues for the Christmas market I was convinced they would cause Covid cases with everyone having to queue so closely together, rather than letting the crowds disperse over the wider area. Yet another case of an organisation being seen to do something rather than thinking through the implications.
I do hope lots of people enjoyed a free Loony Dook today.

2022HereWeCome · 01/01/2022 15:20

I know but on the plus side, I am feeling OK. Felt ropey overnight on Thursday with headache but otherwise it's no worse than a cold (sneezing, now very minor occasional cough). Unfortunately I will now need to cancel my booster appointment which was due in a few days ....

in a way it's a relief to get it, we have had so many close contacts through school over the last year that I'm amazed it's taken so long.

2022HereWeCome · 01/01/2022 15:25

@rookiemere, it didn't help that some sort of band was playing on waverley bridge and people were stopping to watch ... we were just trying to pass ...really would have helped if there was more than one entrance point though

Lockdownbear · 01/01/2022 16:45

Thanks for the new thread. All the best for 2022.
Fingers crossed we see the back of restrictions this year.

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 01/01/2022 19:03

Happy New Year railers! And thanks for the thread @WouldBeGood

ssd · 01/01/2022 21:45

God 1 in 60 people have covid in my area. Its gone nuts here.

Lockdownbear · 02/01/2022 00:15

I'm hearing about loads of people with covid, or isolating because of a family member with it.

sweetkitty · 02/01/2022 00:26

Happy New Year Railers, my DH and two eldest DC went for their boosters yesterday needless to say it was sore arms all round today, DH was hot hard by it, he went back to bed this afternoon and he’s never unwell and he’s one of those sleeping is a waste of time people. He’s now raging he will miss the gym for a few days.

MaxNormal · 02/01/2022 08:30

Happy New Year all.
Half my street is down with covid now.

Tiredoftiers · 02/01/2022 09:14

It’s rife at the moment. Which a bit of me wonders if it might be a good thing, build up natural immunity. The only issue is isolation which is crippling services. Hopefully data shows that the death rate/ serious illness is now not significant and we can move on from covid. Drop restrictions testing etc, but improve our disease surveillance.
This is what I’m hoping for in 2022.

WouldBeGood · 02/01/2022 09:32

I’m waiting with bated breath to see if school will open or if too many people will be infected/isolating.

What do you guys think about whether restrictions will be lifted by the start of February? I have the chance to get my money back for the cancelled horse racing, or to switch tickets to a meeting then.

StarryEyeSurprise · 02/01/2022 09:34

I've just read that school in Wales are closed until the 10th and high schools in England can close for a week to allow mass testing of pupils before they return. It's in the Telegraph.

WouldBeGood · 02/01/2022 09:35

Thanks @StarryEyeSurprise. Reckon similar will happen here?

OP posts:
runningpink · 02/01/2022 09:36

See that’s England going back to masks in secondary schools when they go back.

No bloody chance she will lift them in Scotland anytime soon then

StarryEyeSurprise · 02/01/2022 09:39

@WouldBeGood

Thanks *@StarryEyeSurprise*. Reckon similar will happen here?
I have no idea. I think our numbers are lower, who knows.
Iwantthesummersun · 02/01/2022 09:40

Schools in our area aren’t opening to kids until the 11th anyway. Starting dates are pretty diverse across Scotland so that isn’t quiet as straight forward to do. Unless those with early dates go straight to online learning. Which is also quite unlikely.

Scottishskifun · 02/01/2022 09:46

Ita dependent on the area and school in England to what's happening.
DN school (East England) goes back on Thursday but they have staggered times for each year group and take a test on arrival at school, any positives are sent home to get a PCR before lessons begin.
He is trying to get his second jab before going back (his choice).

The biggest issue Scottish schools will face is the isolation period still not being reduced and Whole households with voluntary release for teachers.

WouldBeGood · 02/01/2022 09:46

We are due back on Wednesday 5th

WouldBeGood · 02/01/2022 09:48

That sounds a nightmare @Scottishskifun - Russian roulette each morning for ten days incarcerated for both of us if they do that here
