I think a lot of kids prefer the disposable ones too.

I reeling - see the person that reported my post - please be my guest and spread what I've found on masks far and wide - I'm reeling at the potential risks that a generation of kids have been put at to potentially save other people.

Did I say I'm really angry 😠 😡 👿

WouldBeGood · 11/01/2022 17:36

Oh, was it on masks @Lockdownbear? I thought it was to do with NS.

Crikey lockdownbear Grin ! What have you been saying!

I'm not surprised there could be particulate issues with masks..I always seem to breathe in some lint with mine, causing embarrassing suppressed coughing fits on the bus. Personally, I only wear them for as little as I can get away with, but I'm sympathetic to kids who need to wear them all day at school, and indeed workers who need to wear them all day.

Surprised that NS seems to have finally decided to relax something. I assume it was because otherwise Scotland's rugby home game would have been played in England which wouldn't have gone down too well - but still, I'll take what I'm given! It would be funny if they just said they'd gone too far down the road of preparations for that to revert, and they were still going to go ahead with the game in England Grin . Might make a point that plans need to be made and not everyone can hang on waiting on the whim of Nicola. So last minute changes may not have the effect the SG wants...

GoldenOmber · 11/01/2022 17:59

Wonder what'll happen when UK government inevitably drop their masks and WFH rules again? I would like to think our government can't insist on keeping things indefinitely when there's a country right next to us that drops them and doesn't see higher cases than us, but they appear to have managed that for half of last year so who knows.

God it is all just so bleak sometimes. "Covid is killing people! We must all live smaller duller shitter lives for the foreseeable future, because we care about life. Won't actually stop covid killing people, of course, that'll carry on just the same, but we'll get to feel like we're Taking It Seriously and that is the important thing."

WouldBeGood · 11/01/2022 18:05

Perfectly put @GoldenOmber

My new rail is against the SG now setting up an inquiry into the leaking of NS’ Covid statement today.

The mind boggles. What a colossal waste of time and money, and they leak stuff themselves all the time!!

ResilienceWanker · 11/01/2022 18:10

Well, at some point NS will have to go, so masks will probably go when she does?! Surely???

I do think there may be some change to the "just keeping you safe...we care about life" moral high ground narrative. The talk yesterday about colds (for example) providing some protection against covid, and all the thing last week about masks not giving any statistical reduction in school absences, but them having a measurable impact on communication/ learning in the schools. It just seems that it is becoming more acceptable to say that, actually, people who don't agree with the restrictions protections also "care about life and being safe" and that it is fair to ask whether or not they are actually causing more "harm to life and safety" than good.

Yes but they only leak bad news to get the public used to it before the official announcement. My god we can't have any leaking of more positive news!

But yes it's a typical sg tactic but suspect this time it wasn't them and they would want the glory of being able to announce the lifting of some restrictions

Both! A mask on a person.

I wonder who reported it? Not that I am speculating

Anyway. Hopefully the tide will turn. I’m so so sick of it all

I think the tide is starting to turn. I think lots of people are scunnered with it.

I think this too.

Especially when rules don't make sense.

GoldenOmber · 11/01/2022 19:33

Chris Musson on Twitter earlier: “The idea that restrictions on hospitality were only going to only last 3 weeks was clearly fanciful. On Dec 21, First Minister said restrictions were for "up to 3 weeks" (nightclub closures then announced Dec 23). Today she said picture was "better than feared". But curbs go on”

Indeed…

runningpink · 11/01/2022 20:03

At my niece and nephews swimming lessons adults are only allowed in to make sure they go to toilet/are ready to go in. But aren’t allowed to sit in the waiting area.

I thought we were past this shit by now!

mapleleavesreturn · 11/01/2022 20:08

Agree would an inquiry into a widespread practice - why pick this covid leak in particular? The govt has been a leaky sieve through out and inquiries rarely change a thing.

Cismyfatarse · 11/01/2022 20:54

And no mention of schools at all.

Hello Nicola. Still here. Still wearing masks and kids being denied parts of their education. Still anxiety and problems with friendships because of lockdowns and restrictions.

Still here in my mask, speaking all day through paper and cloth while you take yours off to speak. Does your special covid shield protect you instead? Can I have one?

They really, really don't care about schools.

heelforheelandtoefortoe · 11/01/2022 20:56

help!

3 close family members have big birthdays in February. They said they'd love a big family party to celebrate. Can we do this? What are the rules re: hiring a hall, getting a DJ, having food, dancing etc?

Would rather not leave booking it til the last minute either.

Would we need to ask people to test themselves, wear masks, fill out a form with their number and all the bloody rest?

IsurviveonCoffeeandWinein2021 · 11/01/2022 20:58

@heelforheelandtoefortoe we have a party at the end of this month. It's going ahead. I think it needs to be under 100 people?

It's in a bowling club with Dj, cake and buffet etc. best maybe just phoning venues and seeing if they are taking bookings.

We are all doing LF because the couples party that it is are elderly.

heelforheelandtoefortoe · 11/01/2022 21:03

Don't know whether to be happy about that or unhappy that I'm a fat cow and need to find a nice dress that makes me look 2 sizes smaller. One good thing about restrictions was hiding my fatness Grin

MaxNormal · 11/01/2022 21:10

That masks article is horrifying. And I have lost count of the number of people who have screeched about selfishness and why wouldn't you, it's not a hardship.
I am also pretty horrified at the amount of toxic chemicals that have been chucked around with gay and reckless abandon to make things "safe".

Here's the other thing - pre covid I had a cloth mask with disposible filters (because I went mad after my illness and developed all sorts of contamination fears). It specifically said not to wear it for longer than an hour at a time because the carbon monoxide beyond that would have health issues.

Yet this rapidly got rebranded as a conspiracy theory in 2020.

Did anyone else pick up on the fact that the SG are planning to extend the covid pass scheme when they ease off further restrictions?

Y0uCann0tBeSer10us · 11/01/2022 21:25

"I am also pretty horrified at the amount of toxic chemicals that have been chucked around with gay and reckless abandon to make things "safe"."

This is something that has worried me a bit too @MaxNormal. Youngest one's nursery proudly state that everything gets cleaned hourly to 'keep them safe', but my first thought is that that is a heck of a lot of cleaning chemical left on surfaces for children to be exposed to, and has a risk assessment been done on that? I'd rather they took their chances with COVID frankly, since in preschoolers it's a cold if it's anything at all (and they've had outbreaks regardless with the children mostly being asymptomatic so yes, I do know this). It seems to be another assumption - clean is 'good' therefore cleaning chemicals are fine and you're an idiot to question it.

Scottishskifun · 11/01/2022 21:26

@maxnormal yes I saw that banded in slyly and now it has to be boosted not double jabbed......

MaxNormal · 11/01/2022 21:31

I honestly don't see how it can be good, especially tinies will be touching everything and putting their hands in their mouths.

Plus I thought surface fomites had been shown not to be much of a thing with this anyway - it's hardly noro.

On another note, if I were Australian I'd now be railing again Mark McGowan for the most draw-droppingly racist, patronising public service message I've ever seen.
He addresses the Aborigonal community in some sort of dreadful pidgen, speaking to them as if they are six years old, calls the vaccine "the needle" and to crown it all gets some poor woman to translate into... also English.

MaxNormal · 11/01/2022 21:32

*jaw-droppingly.
