Ah. Sense at last! That's good news.
Grin at Canada, though! Could there maybe be another country that has also adopted the same strategy? Bit closer. Come on...have a think Wink I know it's difficult to say, but you can do it...

mibbelucieachwell · 05/01/2022 14:58

No LF delivery slots just now when I went to order more Angry

Lockdownbear · 05/01/2022 15:24

Did someone on here not predict with their wee crystal ball that the restrictions would change today - as soon as the schools went back!

Seriously she could have changed them at the beginning of the week, given the kids a bit of a break from this shit!
I know kids who've had one day out of isolation before the schools went back.

Scottishskifun · 05/01/2022 15:49

I'm glad she has seen sense I knew she wouldn't do it over the break though just feel sorry and frustrated foe all those families who have been stuck in with delay for no reason when double vaccination and negative!

Scottishskifun · 05/01/2022 15:49

Haha @lockdownbear yes I did among others

Coquohvan · 05/01/2022 16:00

Watching PM questions lol when BJ called Blackford “a humble crofter” the commons erupted in laughter. Blackford face was a picture 😂

Groovee · 05/01/2022 16:06

I'm off to work in school instead of nursery as we have so many staff off.

Scottishskifun · 05/01/2022 16:37

And Borris has reduced travel testing requirements for England again.

DH had already paid for his which is a bit of a bumer but hopefully is good news foe those trying the get away in Feb as it massively reduces the costs and Sturgeon will be under pressure to repeat. She usually follows on testing requirements for travel a few weeks later then England so fingers crossed will be in time for Feb getaways!

WouldBeGood · 05/01/2022 16:41

Are they not UK wide rules for travel?

Twas me @Lockdownbear!
This was completely intentional to keep as many people as possible at home over the holidays.
I feel very sorry for families (and particularly school staff) who spent large chunk of their holiday in isolationConfused

mibbelucieachwell · 05/01/2022 16:56

I remember you saying that indeed @ecceromani SG sneakily curtailing festivities.

I've just managed to order a box of LFs now btw.

Scottishskifun · 05/01/2022 17:12

Not yet unfortunately just England announced so far! Before it was about a week later before Sturgeon gave a date of following it so hopefully not too long!
heelforheelandtoefortoe · 05/01/2022 17:20

I'm confused

If we do LFT instead of PCR tests then won't that affect numbers of cases being recorded?

I know we need to live with Covid but surely we don't want people thinking covid has gone away because the figures have changed?

Surely its more risky to rely on just LFT?

WouldBeGood · 05/01/2022 17:35

I think the world is acknowledging there was an overreaction to omicron @heelforheelandtoefortoe.

Hopefully all testing will stop soon

OP posts:
GoldenOmber · 05/01/2022 17:36

Will only affect figures really if loads of people don't report positive LFTs. Which some people might not... but then, if they're not going to report a positive LFT now, would they really have booked a PCR after a positive LFT before the rules changed?

We'll have things like the weekly ONS surveillance data to look at prevalence as well so should be able to tell roughly how well the case numbers are capturing current levels.

Scottishskifun · 05/01/2022 17:36

@heelforheelandtoefortoe you register them on the govt website. LFT also pick up the infectious period and if isolating at the point of a positive test then no more risky then going several days waiting on a PCR.

I mean I'm not sure who is going to think covid has gone away it's rammed down our throats pretty much every news slot, every website and every shop!

heelforheelandtoefortoe · 05/01/2022 17:37

I'm in the vulnerable category @WouldBeGood so I don't want to catch it from a positive but symptomless colleague, nor do I want to lock myself away for ever either as some people on twitter seem to think I should.

heelforheelandtoefortoe · 05/01/2022 17:38

thanks @Scottishskifun that helps

Scottishskifun · 05/01/2022 17:41

You can get false positives with lft but actually with the nose ones this seems to be less common. Just make sure when doing them that you don't drink in the 30 mins beforehand especially something fizzy/acidic!

WouldBeGood · 05/01/2022 17:45

I think though that with the vaccines and treatments now that even people previously categorised as vulnerable are at a tiny risk @heelforheelandtoefortoe

The tiers thread detailed access to special drugs for people seriously at risk, as well as accessing PCR home test

That last bit didn’t make sense, sorry, but look over there 😳

ColdNovemberRain · 05/01/2022 17:51

I'm confused. I think I'm happy with the announcement but still confused on a few points.

If I test positive on an LFT with no symptoms and don't get a PCR, I assume no recovery/immunity time will show on my covid app? So if I fly anywhere in the next few months which still requires a PCR test on arrival, there's a chance I will test positive and will not have any evidence to show that it is a legacy result. This is important to me because my parents live abroad in a country which demands PCR tests on arrival - you have to isolate for 24 hours until you get your result and then are either free to enjoy your stay or, get carted to a quarantine hotel at your own expense. They do accept the immunity period if you can show you have had a confirmed infection within 90 days though. My dad is terminally ill and I've only been able to visit once in the past 2 years and now that it's finally looking like I'll be able to travel more freely,, I'm worried I'll get scuppered by this rule.

I'm lucky to have escaped covid since June 2020 but have been adamant with myself that I would definitely get PCR tested for this very reason, if there was any slight possibility I had it.

Also, the cynical part of me thinks that she's only announced this when there is a lack of LFTs and therefore no chance of getting out on day 7!

ecceromani · 05/01/2022 17:55

@ColdNovemberRain you've to report the positive LFT online to Test and protect so I'm supposing it gets registered to your records that way?

Scottishskifun · 05/01/2022 18:02

@coldnovemberrain as long ad you do uploaded then it shouldn't but I think you should still be able to book a PCR if you wish.
