Not that I see anyone 🤣

Just seen that the rugby are making plans to potentially hold 6 nations behind closed doors.
Will be interesting if it happens but only on certain games. The Scottish and Welsh games won’t allow with current rules will they?

titsintiers · 05/01/2022 07:17

Morning all. Railing at being back to work today.

rookiemere · 05/01/2022 07:30

Me too @titsintiers , it's been a long break and I really enjoyed it. I used to not really mind the first day back - there was lots of chat about what people had got up to over Christmas.

Now it's a short trot to the back bedroom and no gossip at all, even if we do have a bit of a talk about things it's a safe bet everyone won't have done anything.

I'm not even upset about it anymore, just vaguely nostalgic for what used to be.

WouldBeGood · 05/01/2022 08:12

The rugby being off limits to a crowd would be another massive blow to businesses.

Just no way of looking forward to anything.

No is it, we’ve got tickets for the game in Rome in March. Optimistic by then things will change!

Sad we had only just got back into our season ticket area. It's a big first game so annoyed if SG forces this rugby has truly suffered in comparison to football! They were still having extremely limited numbers even in the summer at games!
WouldBeGood · 05/01/2022 08:57

Maybe trey could move the Scottish fixtures to venues in less mental countries

Any bets on whether the current restrictions on large group numbers are actually cut on the 17th or whenever they were supposed to be? There are rumours the isolation rules/guidance will be brought in line with rUK today (at least in terms of length... Not heard about household contacts yet) but I'm less convinced about the rest of the restrictions.

And I'm totally on board with the back to work railing. DS is back at school tomorrow which is my hypothetical date for starting again (not that I actually HAVE any work at the moment, which is part of the problem) and can't say it's filling me with excitement and enthusiasm for the year ahead. Bleargh.

GoldenOmber · 05/01/2022 09:30

Haven’t heard anything ResilienceWanker but I’m betting not. Between the high case numbers and the Christmas/New Year testing being all over the place, I don’t see them feeling confident enough to loosen any of it up.

I’m off today but worked the BH so joining in with a belated rail.

runningpink · 05/01/2022 09:31

I’m hoping it’s just gossip rather than actually what they are doing.

But I guess it makes sense to be looking at options just incase.
The rugby is outside so no need at all especially if you have had vaccinations. I will be so angry if they stop it. I don’t have tickets but it’s not the same watching on tv with no crowd

WouldBeGood · 05/01/2022 09:33

Plus the hotels/bars/restaurants in Edinburgh will lose a fortune

This is what I seen. It’s being reported in the guardian

DH was a lifelong rugby fan, played for the village team, kept up with all the leagues etc as well as the international stuff, watched it all in gaelic when that was all he could get for years, paid for Premier sports to keep up with the Edinburgh and Glasgow teams. We went to murrayfield fairly regularly. Now he couldn't care less, barely watched any of the recent games. That's what this has done for his enthusiasm for his sport.

He now watches the MMA type stuff as that was the only live sport available during lock down.

Lockdownbear · 05/01/2022 09:45

ScotGov won't give a shit.

Best bet would be to play all the games away - find football ground in North of England. Been dine before I'm sure Rugby has been played at Hampden when Murray field was being done up.

WouldBeGood · 05/01/2022 09:49

I think that’s the answer @Lockdownbear

OP posts:
Scottishskifun · 05/01/2022 10:00

That would be the best solution but I dont know how it will fit into the grounds fixtures!
Many football clubs also don't like rugby being played on their pitches due to scrums etc. The autumn internationals used to be played all over Scotland til Aberdeen FC started moaning! Now they are all at Murrayfield.

ResilienceWanker · 05/01/2022 10:03

I think they have to do that at the moment anyway wouldn't they, if only 500 people are allowed at any outdoors event? It's a SG restriction, not a Rugby one causing the fucking up of the hospitality in Edinburgh. I wouldn't blame the Rugby folks at all for moving all the planned Scotland games away from Murrayfield for this season (is that even a thing in rugby... I have no clue) just because there is no certainty they'll be able to have spectators.

Scottishskifun · 05/01/2022 11:04

I think I'm sick of NS announcements she will never back down from her I'm right attitude and "won't apologise for protecting people" stance.

Except this was reasonable over 12 months ago not when vaccinated, double/triple jabbed, multiple new effective treatments and now a milder variant!

She will never admit the damage its caused on the economy, on people's wellbeing and mental health nor the effects on children.

I'm well and truly done!
Currently searching plan A, B and C holidays abroad for June which we will fly from England for rather then risk the wrath and power trip of NS against holidays!

RaraRachael · 05/01/2022 11:12

I'm well and truly done with it all too. Having had Covid (don't know if it was omicron) it wasn't any worse than a cold and I think the current restrictions are mad. Yes, people will die of it, but lots of people die of lots of different things every day.

There is NOTHING to look forward to. I can't even think of a summer holiday as who knows what the SG will have in mind by then. Retiring in the summer and was looking forward to going anywhere at any time after a lifetime of being ruled by school term dates. No guarantee of anything any more Sad

ecceromani · 05/01/2022 11:17

Agree @RaraRachael
For me, the biggest thing covid has robbed me of is certainty.
If I book/arrange anything I have no idea whether it will actually go ahead!

Scottishskifun · 05/01/2022 11:37

So I take the attitude with holidays of researching then booking much closer to the time. I also now book package deals which I never did before and have found Jet2 to be brilliant at auto refunds when it does go wrong!

It really helps and I enjoy researching different places but I won't book out of Scotland it's not worth the risk to me Borris has consistently been reasonable with the travel industry Sturgeon has not.

rookiemere · 05/01/2022 11:40

Yup @ecceromani and @RaraRachael . Currently in the position where we have no idea if our Feb half term French ski holiday will take place or not and trying to find hotels with a 1 day cancellation notice rather than the 14 days as rumour has it that French will continue to bar Brits until end of January.

I realise this is among the - my pointy diamond shoes are too tight - extremely fortunate level of railing, but it's still a disappointment for a holiday that we'd actually allowed ourselves to think we might go on ( and still might)

At least DS has just had a negative LFT so will be allowed back to school tomorrow.

rookiemere · 05/01/2022 11:52

Oh and can't blame SG for Frenchies reluctance to let us in - that sits firmly with BG and point scoring.

It is interesting that all of Scotland's efforts to appear so terribly different from England hold zero sway when France or indeed any other European country deciding who to let in, Auld Alliance not having any impact.

This is exactly where I’m at, on behalf of my family. I spent so much time getting worked up about all last year, but thankfully still managed to get away on holiday, we went before NS gave us permission by leaving from outside Scotland 😆 Additionally, I got to work down south, back with real life colleagues and had a post-work social life for a whole week! (Which is yet to happen for me in the Scotland office)

For me the political posturing was/is too much and the impact-after two years of this shite control- on mental health is incredibly damaging. I feel very lucky and privileged enough to be in good health and employed right now. Need to make the most of it. Life is too short.
