Doris is on the gogglebox at 5. Making wee Nikki look like a slacker Grin

ResilienceWanker · 04/01/2022 16:48

Ah, but she's back tomorrow. It's a Bank Holiday don'cha know Wink It's only uncivilised England that doesn't have 2 bank Holidays at the beginning of January. But she's recalling Parliament and giving them an update in the afternoon. I'm sure JS or some other minister will say something ill advised in the morning to give us a clue what's going to happen. I'm sure we're all waiting eagerly...

Also, I'm railing that my calendar is telling me that today is a substitute for 2nd January. I already don't know what day it is. I don't want my calendar ganging up on me too.

mibbelucieachwell · 04/01/2022 17:09

Doris has bought more antivirals per head than anywhere else he claims. I assume he'll divvy them up between England and the rest of the nations.
Also had a haircut and brushed his hair. Must be serious.

WouldBeGood · 04/01/2022 17:09

I didn’t think they’ll ask @rookiemere. I’d not bother and see what happens. I’m sure the last thing they want is lots of testing, with the consequences of it.

We got the same message from ds’ state school and that’s the strategy I’m planning.

OP posts:
rookiemere · 04/01/2022 17:11

I'd be a bit more inclined to do it @WouldBeGood if they changed the isolation period to 7 days. Good old unintended consequences eh.

WouldBeGood · 04/01/2022 17:14

Absolutely @rookiemere. The rules act as a massive disincentive. We’ve all done our bit and are jagged as required. Overkill.

OP posts:
WouldBeGood · 04/01/2022 17:15

Apparently BJ has said plan b and boosters enough to deal with omicron, so no new restrictions.

Groovee · 04/01/2022 17:15

First day out of isolation. It's far to peoplely and now I have a headache.

mibbelucieachwell · 04/01/2022 17:21

I'd be surprised if they can't insist on them @rookiemere

@ResilienceWanker Thank you for the advice. It's hard to know exactly how transmissible this variant is. As you say, social distancing might need not prevent transmission of omicron. I would have been a close contact three times last term under previous rules but didn't seem to catch Christmas covid from a pupil so it might work with omicron.
I'm still waiting for some 'Wednesday' parents to reply. They're all pupils I travel to. I might cop out and delay starting them until next week. Not so good for my pocket but if more than one prefers to start next week it's not very good from a financial pov to travel to the others anyway.
I'm railing at my own indecisivenessBlush

mibbelucieachwell · 04/01/2022 17:23

Hope your headache shifts soon @Groovee . Sounds rubbish after your quarantining.

ResilienceWanker · 04/01/2022 17:41

I know what you mean groovee. I think I've totally reevaluated what "crowded" means over the past couple of years! Went to John Lewis last week and was annoyed at it being too bustly, whereas it was actually really quiet for in between Christmas and New Year. (Also annoyed at their saucepan stock/ display, in that we couldn't tell what they had, how much it cost or why it was different from what they had online... but that's another thing). Hope your headache goes soon. That's a bummer when you've been incarcerated for so long Flowers

I think all the uncertainty breeds indecisiveness at the moment mibbe. If the parents are being slow to reply to you, they probably aren't sure either! Kicking the can to next week may well be a good plan if you're able to, cash-wise. We'll at least know more about numbers/ schools etc then.

Good news on the antivirals. Fingers crossed for a change to the isolation protocol here...

Coquohvan · 04/01/2022 17:54

Thank you for the baby best wishes. The news has lifted our spirits and giving us something happy to look forward as a family.

Like you all on here I’m fed up to the back teeth with SG rules and guidance now. So very different from rUK and not a significant difference in our outcome from her stance.
I’m a glass half full person so I’m concentrating on what I can still do and letting go off what I can’t change.

Be interesting to hear her update tomorrow just watching BJ PV & CW.
Showing us Covid slides with and because off in hospital stats and are being calm giving explanations and not terrifying us with their words.
Something NS is very reluctant to produce for us, at her what seems like constant lectures with very little substance or facts.
The way she answers MSP’s questions at times is childish churlish and disrespectful.

Hope Sturgeon wakes up soon !
Scottishskifun · 04/01/2022 18:09

I could understand her responses to questions if some of them weren't actually bloody valid questions which the public and businesses really want to know the answers for!

I have watched some of them and honestly sometimes she reminds me of that comedy sketch of just any response is am I bothered...... just rolling her eyes and sniping like a teenager! Fine for a comedy sketch not for parliament and genuine questions which she refuses to answer!

Coquohvan · 04/01/2022 18:18

Exactly @Scottishskifun not up to the standard you’d except from her position.

WouldBeGood · 04/01/2022 19:03

I think she’s not up to this job and it’s showing now.

We will see who’s right, I suppose!

Yep I completely get politicians curve balling to the opposition it's common practice but not when questions she has had a flip about include: Mass vaccination centres Clarity for businesses -vaccine passports which was 2-3 weeks in limbo Clarity for business support funding Questions on vaccine passport rollout for international travel which kept getting pushed back stopping Scots from travelling to certain places including Norway.

These are just the ones I have caught. To me none of the above is a unreasonable question!

mibbelucieachwell · 04/01/2022 19:34

@rookiemere Oops. I meant to say I'd be surprised if schools can insist on LFs.

One of tomorrow's pupils has Covid so I'll start next week. Selfishly, I'm cheered up by the thought that pupils who get covid will be 'safe' to teach in the usual way for a while. So much better for them and me.

mapleleavesreturn · 04/01/2022 19:51

a friend whose entire family got omicron this christmas says they've now got a 90 day ticket to travel anywhere without having to test! She's looking to book asap.

WouldBeGood · 04/01/2022 20:12

So, is Scotland the only uk country with self isolation for contacts?

OP posts:
Scottishskifun · 04/01/2022 20:55

@WouldBeGood

So, is Scotland the only uk country with self isolation for contacts?
Yes only nation where Whole household has to isolate regardless of vaccination status. If not a household contact/not been kissing and double vaccinated then can take a PCR test if negative then they are released.

Other nations have to self isolate if a close contact or household contact who isn't vaccinated.

ecceromani · 04/01/2022 20:56

@WouldBeGood

So, is Scotland the only uk country with self isolation for contacts?
Yes Daily LFT everywhere else for fully vaccinated people.
Scottishskifun · 04/01/2022 20:56

Should say applicable to adults rile for under 18s is different and usually negative test to release 5 upwards.

Coquohvan · 04/01/2022 21:02

@WouldBeGood lost track a bit, think some can test to not isolate.

If you look at this graph and countries test numbers, It’s no wonder we top Europe with our cases. Don’t believe we have the highest cases, more so that they aren’t testing the numbers we are, so won’t find them.
I remember Trump saying (if we don’t test we won’t have cases) maybe other countries have similar thoughts. 😀
However it’s hospitalisations & ICU numbers are the biggest concern.
