The festive special!

As always, all railing welcome, along with good things or humorous asides. No resilience wankery. This is the safe place to let out anything that’s doing your head in.

I thought the mustique trip was in 2019 and it went to the committee this summer but was cleared?!

I suppose the crux is do they expect something in return for free holidays!

If so then yep completely wrong if not then I don't really see a problem 🤷

alicesfavouritepen · 30/12/2021 08:33

It's seedy af.

He is appalling in every way. It makes me so confused when people support him.

WouldBeGood · 30/12/2021 08:48

With that one he was officially cleared, but criticised for the explanation, @Scottishskifun. It was all very murky.

Rumours are circulating that he’s away there again, though it’s probably just rumour on Twitter.

I really find him a disgusting man, albeit I’m grateful for his moderating influence on lockdown measures available to the devolved nations. Which makes me feel dirty!

He appeals to the same demographic as Trump (and the far right) did in America -

tax breaks and other favours for the ultra wealthy,
popular politics for the rest (blaming and the criminalization of refugees/ migrants, make America/Britain great again, using companies like Cambridge Analytica to sell the public untruths and promoting division).

Younger people ( in my experience) are quite clued up. We've had some great discussions around Brexit, the storming of the Capitol building and after a Q and A session with him ( all child led).

MarshmallowFondant · 30/12/2021 09:01

She had her second baby on 9th December, it's hardly likely that they're away on a long-haul holiday 2 or 3 weeks later.

Not a Boris fan but he was pictured at Chequers on 23rd December.

Scottishskifun · 30/12/2021 09:08

Ah right just sounds like the twitter rumour mill!
A 5 day trip with 2 long haul flights with a toddler and newborn.......personally I can't see it!

ElephantOfRisk · 30/12/2021 09:11

Trump and the far right and Boris? Oh really? 🤔. I agree they are both odious human beings but not far right.

mapleleavesreturn · 30/12/2021 09:15

Yeah I can't see it - didn't she spend a few days in hospital too which implies not everything that straightforward?
Maybe she's superwoman but I hardly think it's bikini time.

Or that Johnson and Trump supporters are all the same - that seems the usual sort of reductionism.

Haudyourwheesht · 30/12/2021 09:46

He's happy enough to describe Muslim women as letterboxes. Either he believes that, or he says it because he feels it will appeal to a certain demographic. Either way, he is despicable.

You can be anti the Scottish government without being pro-Boris. It's not an either / or situation.

ElephantOfRisk · 30/12/2021 09:54

I know it's not an either/or situation.

None of them should be in power but then neither should most of, or indeed probably all, the alternatives.

So where does that leave us?

Scottishskifun · 30/12/2021 10:16

😂 the Queen?

She's pretty level headed and at least brings money in via tourism! Although many people don't like the royal family either!

WouldBeGood · 30/12/2021 10:18

The royal family is equally sleazy and privileged

OP posts:
BlameItOnTheBlackStar · 30/12/2021 10:23

The Queen who lobbied the government so she could continue to hide her 'embarassing' private wealth from us commoners?

No thanks!

alicesfavouritepen · 30/12/2021 10:51

I'm stunned at what Boris Johnson and the Tory government have gotten away with. I agree that there is no perfect party/ leader but how he's not at the bottom of the pile I'll never know.

And yes deffo appeals to the far right. He's been openly racist in the past and the right wing lunatics all seem to love him. He's the acceptable face of racism. An 'all lives matter' type. Sickening.

BlameItOnTheBlackStar · 30/12/2021 11:02

He's a populist, same as Trump was. Populism is kind of on the wane now, but here we are in the UK clinging on to some sort of false god, an understanding of strong leadership that can only be delivered by rich white men.

alicesfavouritepen · 30/12/2021 11:03

@WouldBeGood

Amen to this.
OldaRailer · 30/12/2021 11:04

I don't know anyone who supports him irl. I believe from looking at Conservatives on line and polling that most of their supporters don't like him much either after all the parties. So I guess his days as PM are numbered.

BlameItOnTheBlackStar · 30/12/2021 11:06

I don't think the Conservative Party's days are numbered though, given the state of Labour.

OldaRailer · 30/12/2021 11:06

No sadly not.

OldaRailer · 30/12/2021 11:06

I guess Rishi Sunak next?

WouldBeGood · 30/12/2021 11:07

There’s just no proper opposition in either the UK or Scotland and that causes a lot of the problems.

OP posts:
BlameItOnTheBlackStar · 30/12/2021 11:09

Yes, it's been really detrimental to law-making in Scotland, when it comes to women's safety, for example.

We're in a fucking shambles. And we can't even emigrate easily to Europe any more. Trapped on this wee island, we are.

ElephantOfRisk · 30/12/2021 11:17

Sadly, Brexit and Europe re immigration is a side issue as, is there actually anywhere left in the world, never mind Europe, to actually go to escape all the gobshite?

BlameItOnTheBlackStar · 30/12/2021 11:42

I have no idea any more. I used to think I'd quite like to move to Ireland. Similar but different enough maybe, and still part of Europe. That's not an option now though, plus they're as bad as us when it comes to the trans debate.

WouldBeGood · 30/12/2021 11:45

I always say this, but I’d planned to live in France. Can’t now. And even travel is much harder.

I also feel sad that my children won’t have the opportunity for easy travel and to work anywhere they choose in Europe.

Fewer borders, not more is my mantra.
