The festive special!

As always, all railing welcome, along with good things or humorous asides. No resilience wankery. This is the safe place to let out anything that’s doing your head in.

But have no answers either @BlameItOnTheBlackStar. I’m just so so fed up.

I suppose something does @WouldBeGood because plenty of countries are not in the parlous state we are. But I haven't done enough to understand who are the 'winners' globally speaking, and why that might be.

BlameItOnTheBlackStar · 29/12/2021 19:19

@WouldBeGood

But have no answers either *@BlameItOnTheBlackStar*. I’m just so so fed up.
🙌🙌

Yep. I've fucking had it. Two years ago DD and I went to a brilliant Christmas show, spent the night singing and dancing, it was brilliant. She was 9 and so excited to have a grown up night out.

Since then nothing has been carefree or simple. And if we ever go back to that show, she'll be 12 and self-conscious and embarrassed to be seen dancing with this chubby middle aged woman.

It's just all shite. That is my rail.

WouldBeGood · 29/12/2021 19:19

I think we’re early in the omicron wave? France and Germany doing v badly with loads of restrictions.

I think it’s stuff like the hospitality/football stuff that is done without evidence or the thought of the impact on people’s lives and livelihoods. But I’m sure we will see what happens

OP posts:
WouldBeGood · 29/12/2021 19:23

Absolutely @BlameItOnTheBlackStar. Perfect rail.

OP posts:
BlameItOnTheBlackStar · 29/12/2021 19:24

I don't think there is no thought of the impact. But how else do you stop large numbers of people mixing without restricting access to the places they mix in? What else is there to do? I really don't know what the answers are.

Unless you're not bothered about restricting cases and/or are scared of your libertarian backbenchers ousting you.

WouldBeGood · 29/12/2021 19:24

Things are so bad I’m sitting drinking wine alone watching the Real Housewives of Jersey.

My god. At least I’m not completely vacuous, and they make me feel positively deep 🤣🤣

OP posts:
BlameItOnTheBlackStar · 29/12/2021 19:31

I've had too much beer and junk food in the last week and am now downing heartburn tablets like sweeties, unable to eat or drink anything nice. Boo.

WouldBeGood · 29/12/2021 19:40

Oh no! @BlameItOnTheBlackStar, that’s rubbish

OP posts:
ElephantOfRisk · 29/12/2021 19:48

I'm not bothered about restricting the amount of people who test positive. They aren't cases. Cases are people in hospital being treated for covid. The number of those is very small. I'm railing that governments are gaslighting and terrifying their populations whilst doing nothing to increase capacity. imo they are loving that they can blame the inability of the NHS to cope with seasonal hospital variations on the general public. The public are blamed for going out, for mixing and basically for anything other than sitting in your house and bleaching your shopping and post.

WouldBeGood · 29/12/2021 20:04

That’s true @ElephantOfRisk. It’s so wearing.

OP posts:
BlameItOnTheBlackStar · 29/12/2021 20:05

But they are cases when it comes to isolating households, so rocketing positive cases will lead to closures of many things, including schools, hospital wards, etc.

WouldBeGood · 29/12/2021 20:11

I do think the self isolation rules for contacts need to stop or society won’t function

OP posts:
ElephantOfRisk · 29/12/2021 20:14

They aren't cases in medical terms. You are only a case if you require treatment.

Why would rocketing "cases" need to cause closure to things though? It's not important how many people have a positive lat flow or PCR. The only important thing is making sure that vulnerable people have the opportunity to be vaccinated.

We need to start taking decisions about our health and activities by ourselves again.

BlameItOnTheBlackStar · 29/12/2021 20:15

And then cases spiral up.

You're right @WouldBeGood there are no good answers and nothing seems to work apart from waiting out the wave.

WouldBeGood · 29/12/2021 20:17

I think that’s spot on @BlameItOnTheBlackStar. The wave will wave 🤷🏻‍♀️

Travelling Tabby has been updated, if anyone's interested.

Scottishskifun · 29/12/2021 21:21

Thanks @starryeyesuprise
The last graph on the page is interesting..... this time last year averaging approx 1700 cases a day and 33 deaths, this year averaging 8600 cases a day and 4.7 deaths a day!

Alpha hit Scotland around the same dates last year.
The data is showing very good numbers both for vaccines and on severity

WouldBeGood · 29/12/2021 21:28

Thanks guys

Railing against johnsons holiday in Mustique and wondering who paid for it. I fucking hate that man with a passion. Why does arseholes always come out on top Angry

WouldBeGood · 29/12/2021 21:43

He’s despicable @ssd

OP posts:
Lockdownbear · 30/12/2021 00:35

I can't see what Johnson has done wrong going on holiday?
England is more or less open for business, with no travel restrictions or nightclubs closures.

Scotland is being a bit OTT in it reaction to this wave of covid, "be safe". Hmm

I'd be heading to France if they'd let me in.Sad

WouldBeGood · 30/12/2021 06:17

I was meaning the sleaziness of all these perks being paid for by Tory donors, who will expect something in return, and Johnson’s cavalier attitude to the precise declaration of these interests.

RunningInTheWind · 30/12/2021 07:32

I’m surprised - surely Mrs BJ would be horrified at racking up those air miles - not very green.

Yeah, it's his second free holiday this year, isn't it? Yet businesses and individuals are struggling so much at the moment.
