The festive special!

As always, all railing welcome, along with good things or humorous asides. No resilience wankery. This is the safe place to let out anything that’s doing your head in.

It will be lectures and threats to be good boys n girls. Then she will be back on by Friday to restrict us further as we haven’t behaved and the numbers are bad.

Lockdownbear · 29/12/2021 08:34

But can they really justify restrictions if the hospitals aren't busy?

Think about the numbers of people they've put out of work with no real support. I'm amazed the nightclubs / brewers aren't chasing them for compensation. Not to mention the pantomime workers and taxi drivers.

rookiemere · 29/12/2021 08:36

@MarshmallowFondant enjoy the zoo - I haven't been to see the giraffes since they arrived, so I'm sure they'll be fun to watch.

I don't know how I feel about them potentially lifting the restrictions. Surely most people will have made alternative plans by now and the nightclubs etc. won't have staff in place. I can't see them doing it, as it makes them look flip floppy and out of control.

Just like the last 18 plus months on repeat then?

Is anyone still listening to her?

mapleleavesreturn · 29/12/2021 08:38

NS backtracking on Hogmanay? Hell will freeze over first i reckon!

Groovee · 29/12/2021 08:39

Mr G has never tested positive on LFT. It was the PCR after DD's work PCR was positive that picked up Covid.

I'm still negative according to the PCR yesterday but can I trust the LFTs as they didn't say Mr G had it where as Dd with her scratchy throat and ds with no symptoms had very strong positives.

WouldBeGood · 29/12/2021 08:40

@MarshmallowFondant “flowing before going” 🤣🤢

Lockdownbear · 29/12/2021 08:42

Flowing before Going made me laugh 😃 it beats half the slogans they've come up with so far

rookiemere · 29/12/2021 08:47

Argh was meant to meet my friend in town today. As she has elderly vulnerable relatives we were planning to go for a walk, but as it's pissing down I've asked if she is amenable to lunch instead, will be disappointed if she says no.

I agree. Would be happy to be wrong though!

But I can't see any slackening of restrictions - the opposite in fact if she could. Limits to household mixing potentially? Not that I think people will listen to that but it gives her the scope to say "well we told you..."

Haudyourwheesht · 29/12/2021 09:03

sit at home on the couch with herbal tea and an individual fruit trifle

Who told you my NY plans? Grin

Scottishskifun · 29/12/2021 09:10

😂 @wouldbegood your DP is extremely optimistic!
I think they are meeting to confirm legal changes through parliament as they were done on emergency powers I think.

If we are extremely lucky she will reduce the isolation requirements on households but again this is optimistic!

Rest will be a stay at home, know it's hard it's for the protection of all and schools.....blah blah blah!

Icannever · 29/12/2021 09:20

@WouldBeGood we stayed in the travelodge Kendal town centre in the summer and it was great, brand new one by the river. I don’t normally like travelodge a compared to premier inns but this was an exception

Icannever · 29/12/2021 09:23

Oh and someone asked about st.Andrews the other day. I’d say the Fairmount is the only really child friendly hotel (pool etc.) but it’s very expensive and not actually in st.Andrews itself. Apart from that I’d say hotels are more set up for middle aged golfers. Dundee probably has a better choice and is more fun to visit as well, better restaurants and you’ve got the beach at brought ferry. I love st.Andrews btw, we live nearby, it’s just not got a lot of child friendly hotels.

ssd · 29/12/2021 09:33

@WouldBeGood, enjoy yourself if you do go away
@Groovee, thanks, he must have been texted twice by mistake, the eedgits.

My ds and his pals might be going to England for new year for the nightclubs. I dont think they like herbal tea so they'll need to travel Grin

ssd · 29/12/2021 09:37

My rail just now, apart from the texts saying dh is positive when he's not heard from the nhs yet..is that the swimming pools here are all shut till Monday. I mean bloody hell, the kids are off school and the baths are shut, surely now theyd normally be open? Anyway obviously i dont have wee ones to take anymore i just take my own fat self, but they are all shut over the xmas period. Just seems really stupid.

OnceUponAWhine · 29/12/2021 10:07

Railing after hearing John Swinney on the news saying people must not travel over the border for NYE.

So he needs to very much fuck off with his fun police statement and also do his homework again, there is no ‘border’ it’s a land boundary. We live in the U.K. you utter turnip.
I bet this is the angle chief mammy goes with today, save face on admitting she jumped the gun.

Rail over and out.

OldaRailer · 29/12/2021 10:19

They say these things because it chimes well with their siege mentality.
(Apart from their like minded fans) I think many normal (usually conformist) people have tuned out.

rookiemere · 29/12/2021 10:22

@OnceUponAWhine the inability after almost two years of this to have a wild stab at what unintended consequences could be of any action is astonishing.
So people aren't allowed to celebrate the NY in nightclubs or pubs in Scotland but can in England , what the heck did they think was going to happen? And I've not listened to him, but if he thinks he can control peoples movements in the UK with no mandate to do so, then it seems a bit of an overreach.

Meanwhile my first world problem is will the Cheesee Peasee fromage van get my order to me in time for NYE ( the Royal Briard with truffle is amazing)

Y0uCann0tBeSer10us · 29/12/2021 10:28

@WouldBeGood

DP, Nat and erstwhile SNP supporter, thinks NS is going to announce she’s lifting the extra restrictions today given the new evidence. Got to say I think he’s wrong, but I suppose you never know!
🤣🤣🤣 That's hilarious! You've got to love the optimism, but somehow I can't see NS having the humility to admit she overreacted and jumped the gun. I reckon she'll double down on her decisions, focus on whatever data looks scariest (case numbers probably) and ignore the wider context, give some more dire warnings about how we all must obey or the world will end...She might continue to claim that we don't know enough about the virus (despite quite a good bank of data now) and use lots of words like 'caution', 'responsible', 'I know this is hard'.. She'll probably warn against going down to England to celebrate New Year as if she has the power to stop anyone and use it as an opportunity to get a couple of digs in at Westminster/Boris for good measure.
shouldistop · 29/12/2021 10:33

If I was 10 years younger I'd definitely be heading down to England for Hogmanay,

Y0uCann0tBeSer10us · 29/12/2021 10:38

"Scotland's Deputy First Minister has told anyone planning to travel to England to celebrate New Year amid more relaxed Covid restrictions it would be the "wrong course of action".
John Swinney says while there is nothing legally to stop party-goers from heading south of the border, where nightclubs are still open, for their Hogmanay celebrations, this would go against the "spirit" of theregulations put in place by the Scottish Government."

Good of John Swinney to point out that there's no legal reason why Scots shouldn't travel to England for Hogmanay. Might just have given some disappointed revellers an idea there. I do think they've pretty much exhausted the good will of most of the population with their 'longer harder restrictions for the same outcome' strategy, so not sure how many young people will be eager to comply with the 'spirit' if the guidance.

mapleleavesreturn · 29/12/2021 10:40

I suspect @Icannever that I have indeed booked a hotel for middle aged golfers for my two noisy dcs, but I'm going to eat dinner at 5 so hopefully won't ruin too many magic moments for others.

I was desperate and just booked anything with a restaurant onsite.

Anything has got to be better than current boredom levels

Scottishskifun · 29/12/2021 10:46

😂😂😂😂😂 they are having a laugh! People are fed up and the late teens to mid twenties have been the scape goat for loads of covid stuff!
The language used yet again is divisive and puts blame onto people for a infectious virus.
It doesn't make any difference if people go party in England or go to a house party in Scotland it's everywhere and uncontrollable but mild now!

Wish they would read the room better people are fed up of being treated like bloody children and having their daily lives dictated!

OnceUponAWhine · 29/12/2021 10:51

Cheese chat cheers me right upXmas Grin mmm, truffle cheese delivery. DH doesn’t like any cheese (I know, I know, I should have checked before I said yes) so I luckily get to choose any without sharing and leaving it to stink out the fridge until new year. Good times!
