The festive special!

As always, all railing welcome, along with good things or humorous asides. No resilience wankery. This is the safe place to let out anything that’s doing your head in.

Ah I copied the wrong figures .. but yes, England is the lowest in the UK for NHS spending per head.

MaxNormal · 28/12/2021 14:19

Haudyourwheesht Underbelly are probably worthy of a rail in their own right. Imagine as a council-tax paying resident, having guest access to your home blocked at the behest of a private company.

ElephantOfRisk · 28/12/2021 14:59

So, @StarryEyeSurprise, you've said you've copied the wrong figures but you haven't given the new ones? Do you want to link or give the correct ones?

Actually, I could be wrong (or right) with the per head thing as there are economies of scale, but NHS England have increased spending on NHS and given that same increase to ScotGov who haven't spent it on the NHS, so spending has increased at a much higher rate in NHS England than it has in Scotland, despite WM making the funding available.

At schools in Dumfries and Galloway it wasn’t possible to take three sciences, for example

Can anyone help..we have been identified as a close contact of a positive case ..I know who it is ..

The text from test and protect says children don't need to isolate..I've called 119 but the scotland option is not working..they say under 18 in England is a child for isolation rules but they have.no idea about Scotland

Ds is 16.is that an adult in Scotland

Wondered if you’ve read about ‘the dentist’ today and his history and current position with the Institute of Health Improvement, USA- who’ve funnily enough been awarded SNHS contractsHmm. Look it up if you’re interested in cronyism NHS spending in Scotland @StarryEyeSurprise

shouldistop · 28/12/2021 16:36

@frasersmummy I'd ask him to do a lateral flow and let him out if negative.

WouldBeGood · 28/12/2021 16:43

A child for the purposes of contact tracing I’d say @frasersmummy

If it's not a household contact it looks like you both go and get a pcr. If that's negative then you're good to go.
It only mentions children under 5 not getting a test

ecceromani · 28/12/2021 16:47

That was for @frasersmummy

Lockdownbear · 28/12/2021 17:30

@Y0uCann0tBeSer10us
SmileI hope the people who travel have a good time.

Traditionally NY was celebrated in Scotland to keep Christmas as a Christian no drink celebration.

It's actually a sad day when folk feel they are forced to travel to celebrate. What other country would do that to its own people?

Y0uCann0tBeSer10us · 28/12/2021 17:48

I hope they do too @Lockdownbear. The clubs and pubs in England who stand to benefit are apparently asking for a negative lateral flow, which is the right kind of proportionate action IMO. What gets me is that it almost certainly won't do much to stop Omicron spreading (especially if revellers just pile into houses instead), and is purely just to send a message or look like something is being done. Once again it's hospitality that loses out for this kind of tinkering.

Some more provisional case numbers for Scotland have just come out and are apparently around the 9k mark. This is being reported as 4 consecutive days above 8k cases, but I can't help but noticing that it seems to have plateaued again (actually dropped a bit in the last two consecutive days) and frankly I find it a bit underwhelming. Certainly doesn't look to be spiralling out of control to me. I get that I'm supposed to be terrified by high case numbers, but frankly they don't mean much to me any more. I'm much more interested in how many are in ICU because of it (not even hospital admissions, as incidentals are so high), and that actually seems to be better than anyone expected from what I can see. In fact more and more people on the ground are coming out and saying that the isolation rules are a much bigger problem that the virus per se. It could be 50k 'cases' a day but if these people mostly have the cold (or no symptoms at all) who gives a shit?

2022HereWeCome · 28/12/2021 18:08

And another message from test and protect telling me I 'must reschedule my booster appointment to the coming week as they have lots of appointments available' and I need to be protected from 'the virus'.

Sadly this is bringing out the worst in me. I am finding this intrusive, borderline harassment, and so completely OTT in terms of tone that I have no respect for any of the messages. I am feeling a sense of rebellion that I have not experienced for 30+ years.

Funny how I am supposed to drop everything to get boosted yet whenever I have approached the NHS for support around issues that are significantly affecting my day-to-day quality of life over the last 2 years I have been fobbed off, dismissed and not listened to.

mapleleavesreturn · 28/12/2021 18:38

You feel the recorded message should be 'don't forget your priority is not our priority' which would cover the 5 mis of covid plus other messages most nhs phone lines force you to listen to whilst waiting.

ElephantOfRisk · 28/12/2021 18:54

What is the railers' thoughts on things being open on fake New Years Day (the 3rd Jan)?

Dh has been/will be working all this week and I'm back on the 4th, so he was wanting to go a long drive and get some lunch out next Monday since we are both off. I'm not sure whether hospitality might be shut? No idea where either at this point, could be anywhere from the borders to inverness and any side of the country in-between.

Scottishskifun · 28/12/2021 19:20

@elephantofrisk typically many hospitality places would shut for several weeks in Jan to get a rest and it's usually quieter but given they have not had the usual Christmas or New Year trade I think more are likely to try to be open.
Google will be your friend with this one!

ElephantOfRisk · 28/12/2021 19:38

Thanks @Scottishskifun. I think the key will be the weather forecast, then deciding roughly which direction to go and then google places in the area to see if they are open. Hopefully we find something.

ssd · 28/12/2021 19:48

Thats what we do. The joy of having older kids is not planning anything. Just going where its dry and mooching around.

Lockdownbear · 28/12/2021 20:04

I think places will be open if they can be / think they'll have enough business to be open.
Definitely phone ahead.

WouldBeGood · 28/12/2021 20:32

That Jason Leitch thing is just more sleaze. I despair. How do they get away with it?

OP posts:
ssd · 28/12/2021 21:01

Can anyone advise us? Dh went for a pcr today at 3.30pm ,the 28th. Hes just noticed 2 texts on his phone which he said he got this morning. Both are from Protect-Scotland -App saying his test on the 28th is positive. The other text says the test on the 27th is positive. Both texts arrived before his actual pcr? Whats going on?

Mistressiggi · 28/12/2021 21:12

That's nuts! Does he have the card he got when he tested? He could phone in the morning and ask what's going on

shouldistop · 28/12/2021 21:13

@ssd did he do LFT tests and register them?

StarryEyeSurprise · 28/12/2021 21:23

We have around 3 per cent higher spending per head on the NHS in Scotland (vs England).

Also, as you've been reminded several times and it states in the article you linked, the funding you're referring to is simply that- additional funding - and this was allocated to ensure social care is free in this country.

ssd · 28/12/2021 21:24
@ssd did he do LFT tests and register them?
2 lfts both negative and not registered at all
