The festive special!

As always, all railing welcome, along with good things or humorous asides. No resilience wankery. This is the safe place to let out anything that’s doing your head in.

I like cauli cheese as well but haven't got that this year. I am however going to have bread sauce, I don't usually bother as no-one but me likes it. But, I thought fuck putting myself last all the time so bread sauce is happening and I bought some cranberry sauce which again, I'm the only one who has it.

rookiemere · 22/12/2021 21:36

There was bread sauce in the butcher's pack which I'm quite happy about as I hadn't planned to buy it.

ssd · 22/12/2021 21:50

On the back of this thread ill need more pigs n blankets. There's 3 eating them and i bought 12 but it doesn't seem to be enough. I dont like them to cant tell.

ElephantOfRisk · 22/12/2021 21:53

I just bought a packet to make up to be honest. I'm sure that's what we had as kids. It's not so much for the dinner itself, I need a spread of it to properly waterproof my bread from the gravy for a leftover sandwich.

ssd · 22/12/2021 21:56

Love the scratchcards for the table @ElephantOfRisk

I think i might buy them a posh one each

ElephantOfRisk · 22/12/2021 22:05

I'm never sure what to buy @ssd as I only get them at Christmas so I just asked if they had any Christmas themed ones and they had £5, £3, £2 or £1 ones. We did a pact last year that any wins over a £100 would be shared. Ds2 won £3 and that was our lot.

The lady on the counter said she puts scratch cards in the stockings but gets actual lottery tickets for the dinner table so I'm assuming there is a draw on Christmas day?

Scottishskifun · 22/12/2021 22:09

You guys are making me hungry! Xmas Grin

I am at the mercy of my dad's cooking for pib usually only have 3 each though.....much to DH disappointment who would happily skip everything for roasted, pib and sausage stuffing!

It's our first Xmas with them and DS not sure who is more excited child or grandparents!

mibbelucieachwell · 22/12/2021 22:19

Paste fail. Must have been distracted by all your talk of cauliflower cheese and parsnips.

Travelling Tabby tweeting that almost a third of people in hospital are there with covid rather than because of covid.

ecceromani · 22/12/2021 22:40

Where did he get that info from do you know @mibbelucieachwell ?

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 23/12/2021 00:14

Can I have a rail against covid in general? We've done everything we're supposed to. Prioritised the things that matter most over Christmas. Cancelled events. Minimised our contacts. Had lots of things beyond our control cancelled. Basically had a shite December. We were hosting Christmas for family but now they are covid ridden and we will just be by ourselves with a fuck lot of turkey I'm so sad. Mostly for DC who miss out on yet another wider family Christmas. I know we're reasonably lucky compared to others but it's just rubbish.

Lidlfix · 23/12/2021 06:12

Whatwould are you my Dsis? One of the (many) shitty parts is of being locked up is knowing what it's doing to the rest of the family. I feel so sorry for my DSis (and you and everyone else whose plans have been ripped up) as my DNs are not going to be wee forever and they look forward so much to carrying on with their cousins. I love watching them altogether, the wee ones proudly showing off their presents and my crowd's reaction. My DPs watching it all, misty eyed. Gone! Thanks

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 23/12/2021 06:49

Def not your sis @Lidlfix, but sadly lots of people in our situation this Christmas. 😞 Sorry your plans are screwed too. I feel robbed of almost two years of family experiences and memories - Christmas, holidays, birthday parties etc. Life is short, and the time DC are living at home even shorter, it's just not fair. Gah.

mapleleavesreturn · 23/12/2021 07:43

scottishskifun you couldn't helpfully turn up with extra pigs?

mapleleavesreturn · 23/12/2021 07:44

Sorry to hear about the dashed plans

shouldistop · 23/12/2021 08:03
@shouldistop If you mean the slightly rubbery cheese wrapped in Parma ham, then yes I do! No one else in my house likes them, so all the more for me!

16 PiB between 12 is not on.
Yes they're great Grin

I don't know how many pib we have. Dh bought the chipolatas and bacon from the butchers and is going to make them. I told him to buy them pre-made, we've got enough to do but he insists it will only take him '2 minutes'

rookiemere · 23/12/2021 08:15

I weighed myself this morning Blush. Let's just say I should be steering clear of the PIB as I must closely resemble one.

I blame the SG and possibly Boris ( well why not )- all this lockdown uncertainty made me revel too much and the booster has stopped any chance of vigorous pre Christmas exercise.

Off to walk the hound, that's exercise right ?

WouldBeGood · 23/12/2021 08:28

Oh, @WhatWouldTheDoctorDo what a shame 💐

Feel for all those who’ve had their plans spoiled. Hope everyone testing positive or isolating stats well enough to enjoy (and taste!) Christmas.

OP posts:
WouldBeGood · 23/12/2021 08:31

Weight gain is clearly the fault of government @rookiemere, that’s official!

OP posts:
ssd · 23/12/2021 08:36

Oh jesus no. I dont test and i don't weight. And i don't know whats worse. Xmas Blush

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 23/12/2021 08:40

Thanks @WouldBeGood. @rookiemere I demolished our jar of festive sweeties after finding out about our spoiled plans and had extra wine so completely agree that weight gain is the government's fault. No scales till 2022 here. Xmas Wink

ssd · 23/12/2021 08:41

We're waiting in ds's pcr results. There is only ever the 4 of us for xmas so its fine. Although ds1 doesn't live here. But he's coming here regardless, he's not sat himself on xmas day. If ds2 has it he can keep back. Fun and games.

Cismyfatarse · 23/12/2021 09:29

Just panic bought more pigs in blankets. We now have 7 per person. Still. Is that enough? Is it ever enough?

ecceromani · 23/12/2021 09:29

Oh fingers crossed it's negative @ssd
And I'd be doing the same, can't have him on his own.
I think you and DH have had your boosters so should be ok?

ecceromani · 23/12/2021 09:30

I do 7 per person @Cismyfatarse
It's always been fine
