The railing never ends.

No resilience wankery, all railing welcome, along with good things or humorous asides.

How many parents really want to take the risk of the second covid vaccine, if we are still in this stupid situation.

Scot Gov have scored a massive own goal. But why aren't the other parties giving some real opposition?

ecceromani · 11/12/2021 08:55

The contact tracing in schools again is going to ruin many families Christmas plans.
Pupils and staff

rookiemere · 11/12/2021 09:00

@Lockdownbear I agree about the PCR tests. I've had a bit of a cough/headache thing all week, I've taken numerous LFTs but all negatives ( DH as well). I would take a PCR but if I did DS would need to miss school from the point I booked it, until I get the results so I'm not doing that unless I get a positive LFT.

Regarding the isolation thing. If DS ( most likely candidate) has to isolate we're still having people for Christmas regardless, providing he doesn't actually have Covid. DH is a bit more gung ho and says we'll still do Christmas even if we are positive, but I feel that's a step too far.

Lockdownbear · 11/12/2021 09:08

I wouldn't do Christmas if positive but I think many people will be doing the same thing with flow tests, not bother with pcr unless flow is positive.
Thats my attitude to my runny nose anyway

Lockdownbear · 11/12/2021 09:11

I was chatting to someone who confessed to having an "emergency" Christmas Dinner in the freezer incase their plans fell through at the last minute.

OnceUponAWhine · 11/12/2021 09:58

@Lidlfix

Contact tracing returning to schools on Monday apparently. Railing for the staff who might be taking part in that over Christmas (again) . I will be sticking rigidly to my open champagne before curtains traditions.
Xmas Sad

@dementedma

Had a lovely staff night out in Dundee last nightband the place was jam packed in an obvious two fingers to Hitler in Knickers. # supporthospitality
I know someone who was also out in Dundee last night. Great to hear of folk enjoying life where they still can #supporthospitality I’m going to a ticketed family Christmas event today with young DCs who still believe, so even though I’m feeling anxious, frustrated and angry at what’s ahead again, outwardly I’ll be having a happy day for DC sake hopefully with the aid of large mulled wines and festive calories
Lockdownbear · 11/12/2021 10:18

Just sucking the joy out of life.
I worry how kids will cope long term when stuff they look forward to keeps getting pulled away from them at the last minute.
Shows, dance displays, performances etc what's the point?

Scottishskifun · 11/12/2021 10:46

Yep our risk is DS we will lft before we travel south as long as negative we will go I'm not sitting in our house for another Christmas because NS has changed the goal posts again when in England all we would have to do is regular testing!
She can sod off!
Unless we are actually positive then I'm done with "being a good citizen" if I'm not putting anyone at risk with regular tests!

ElephantOfRisk · 11/12/2021 10:54

I think that is their current problem. The days of almost universal levels of compliance are long gone. They've cried wolf too often and to no effect. A huge proportion of people are just going to do what they want now unless they physically can't. i.e. places are actually shut and they can't afford to furlough.

I'll continue to play the game with the masks for short times (purely to avoid conflict) but otherwise they can get to fuck until there is evidence that any of this makes any difference and that omicron isa deadly variation.

Already been impacted in that my click and collect groceries were cancelled last night.

WouldBeGood · 11/12/2021 11:13

Pleased to hear that @dementedma!

I wish people would stop testing!

That's bad news @Lidlfix. Hope you make it to the end of term without isolating.

Everyone seems pretty much united that they’re not obeying.

Jeff Stelling from sky sports has been railing against Ms Sturgeon and her “irresponsible” rant yesterday. It’s spot on

Conversely I'd say we need more testing. If loads of people get it and have mild or no symptoms, then there's a case for encouraging not reducing spread. Unfortunately too early to tell. The timing couldn't be worse though as no one wants to screw up their Christmas plans.

I think what has struck me most this time round is the complete difference in approach between England and Scotland. The public are up in arms about having to wear masks and prove their vaccination status and here we are under practical lockdown by stealth and no political party or significant figure in Scotland appears to be speaking out about it ( apart from us of course).

OnceUponAWhine · 11/12/2021 11:55

Got to love Neil Oliver. He speaks for all of us who have Alan ‘international relations’ Smyth as our MSP (not from my vote)

OnceUponAWhine · 11/12/2021 11:56

Huge typo from me there, I left the S (for ‘shite’) in. I meant MP, obvs.

WouldBeGood · 11/12/2021 11:57

Fair point @rookiemere. I’m worried though as it’s numbers that they’re obsessed with.

WouldBeGood · 11/12/2021 11:57

🤣 mr Oliver makes a fair point there!

'Defending our freedom' against vaccine passports?!

We really have hit peak Trump politics here.

rookiemere · 11/12/2021 12:22

You do have a point @StarryEyeSurprise . I guess my frustration is the lack of any credible opposition or even debate when Scottish measures are introduced.
Now I do get that the BG tory opposition comes from dubious sources and is about maximising revenue not necessarily saving lives, but there does come a point when some healthy debate about the cure being worse than the disease is needed, and at least some denial of lies like our increased measures have meant Scottish numbers are lower than English ones.

mapleleavesreturn · 11/12/2021 12:29

All our christmas events cancelled for this weekend thanks to dd being a contact of a covid case. She was very upset last night but it is too close to christmas to risk ruining other peoole's plans.

I agree though rookie I'll stick to lft unless positive because apart from a thug else the system for PCRs is going to be rammed so the time lost waiting for results will increase.

I don't think it's Trumpian to ask questions of your freedoms being taken away.

OnceUponAWhine · 11/12/2021 12:34

Sorry, I derailed the thread with the post, it was relevant to vaccine passports and yes, the predictability of any ScotGov measures going through thanks to the pseudo Greens, whereas there’s rebellion and questioning happening in Westminster.

But this is a thread for general railing, we’re all feeling it, no matter our political choices. So probably not the best thread to have posted it on.

Back to the railing…

MaxNormal · 11/12/2021 12:39

StarryEyeSurprise how so? Are you saying opposing vaccine passports is Trumpian? Apologies if I've misunderstood.

MaxNormal · 11/12/2021 12:40

Today I'm railing about the fact that I'm leaving Spain shortly and thanks to the rule changes I don't know if or when I'll be allowed back.
