The railing never ends.

No resilience wankery, all railing welcome, along with good things or humorous asides.

Ok so I don't think she can lockdown there is no money so what is her game plan here?

Is she hoping to lay the guilt on that enough people change what they are doing? Divide people again and make them feel shamed if they do go ahead with parties etc?

Anyone any ideas?

OldaRailer · 09/12/2021 20:26

Next year will just be similar with flu, covid and other respiratory diseases. 🤷

ecceromani · 09/12/2021 20:38

@OldaRailer unfortunately the opposition don't seem to be particularly good at sticking to the day job either at the moment Hmm

I think that's exactly it. She doesn't want to take responsibility for it because then she's have to support businesses etc. so she (Via PHS) lays on the guilt trip in the hope that people will decide to cancel their plans themselves. If the backlash is enormous (which it should be as it's destroying the hospitality industry) she can claim that she never thought that, it was independent experts or something. (That they never usually urge the public to do things will be glossed over.) This quote has also appeared now:

"Jillian Evans, head of health intelligence at NHS Grampian, stressed that the PHS announcement was an appeal, rather than an instruction...."It's not telling people not to have their Christmas parties but it's appealing to people's better nature, if you can, do the right thing.""

Note the emotional language of 'better nature' and 'doing the right thing'. Unfortunately I think we've all been pushed so far at this point that a lot of people's first reaction is 'Fuck off'. It certainly was mine.

IsurviveonCoffeeandWinein2021 · 09/12/2021 20:51

@Y0uCann0tBeSer10us you are so right about the language. How truly bloody disgusting.

Not an ounce of adult conversation to be had. Reading the comments on Glasgow Live which is usually very supportive it is basically fuck off. Problem is it looks like companies cancelling left and right so that's all their big corporate stuff gone.

dementedma · 09/12/2021 20:52

I've just messaged my team re our plan for dinner and drinks tomorrow and asked them if they wish to cancel or go ahead.
100% vote for go ahead

Haudyourwheesht · 09/12/2021 20:57

Sadly my work is not quite going down the same route. Boss' boss is a fucking covid lunatic so looks like we may be off.

OnceUponAWhine · 09/12/2021 20:57

The guilt tripping is obviously going to be the weapon of choice for this winter. So depressing and damaging for mental health.

IsurviveonCoffeeandWinein2021 · 09/12/2021 20:59

It doesn't really bother me but people like my gran will change/cancel plans etc. the whole not wanting to talk about what you are doing incase people make shitty comments.

It's just because you can doesn't mean you should on bloody steroids!

ecceromani · 09/12/2021 20:59

But nobody's listening to them anymore!
People are getting their jags and getting on with heir lives.

OutOfBounds · 09/12/2021 21:00

Grin

I'm not postponing cancelling anything voluntarily.

Feel desperate for the hospitality industry, it's our moral duty to support it Wine

OnceUponAWhine · 09/12/2021 21:02

I would love it if every works ‘do’ going ahead posted selfies (maskless, of course) of employees and reconstructed the group images and selfies from COP26…one with Irn Bru, another all together in a crowded restaurant setting etc, etc. Post them up on social media, showing their support for the hospitality venues.

ecceromani · 09/12/2021 21:11

I'm watching The Nine.
They've just said they were expecting someone from PHS but they pulled out an hour ago.
I bet they didConfused

IsurviveonCoffeeandWinein2021 · 09/12/2021 21:27

@ecceromani oh did they! That's interesting. Something is rumbling here.

Railing against the utter uncertainty! Have my night out on Saturday. Makeup/hair booked. New outfit etc I will be gutted if it doesn't happen. We have had a horrendous few weeks just super busy and under pressure. We have a babysitter and are both looking forward to it. Really hoping the hotel don't cancel 🤞 I know the people we are going with won't but urgh I should be wrapping my secret Santa excited instead I'm drinking fucking Prosecco again and just not feeling it

ResilienceWanker · 09/12/2021 21:43

Urgh. I totally agree. The whole thing is making me really angry... and we haven't even had The Address To The Nation yet. It is totally "just because you can..." again.

We "postponed" last Christmas til Easter as we were told to last year, and, surprise, surprise, we weren't allowed it at Easter either, so, to be honest, I'm not keen. But my parents (well, my dad, who has developed an unhealthy relationship with Just Keeping Us Safe Nicola) may well decide that they aren't comfortable with us coming round as a result. Which is fine... they are getting on a bit, and it's always their decision to make. But I'm Angry (without even a jolly santa hat) they are being pressured/coerced to make that decision, rather than us agreeing among ourselves what is "safe" - LFTs and open windows and so on.

My thinking is they may expand the passports as they were threatening a couple of weeks ago. That may be enough to put people off enough without actually closing (and having to pay for) hospitality. Plus the stern talking to about thinking carefully before mixing at parties and so on (but not Steps concerts, apparently... no examples of omicron having been spread that way... that's totally safe. But Dave from Accounts is obviously a right superspreader). I think either way hospitality is fucked, and they SHOULD be rightly pissed off.

dementedma · 09/12/2021 21:44

Love the idea of posting pics with the hashtag # supportinghospitality. I darent as our Boss has said no Christmas parties so it will get us all into trouble!
Unfair, as just because we all chose the same pub at the same time is a pure coincidence! 😉

Tiredoftiers · 09/12/2021 21:55

Oh fuck, I posted the other night saying that I thought things should be coming from the health experts not the government..... do you think they have listened?

OnceUponAWhine · 09/12/2021 21:55

The next move will be interesting… is the Edinburgh street party for Hogmanay, 30k people, still going ahead (outside) or does PHS have thoughts on that too?

runningpink · 09/12/2021 22:26

I hate the build up and uncertainty.

If this ends up being all this second guessing and panicking for nothing I will be so angry.

I obviously don’t want any restrictions either.

ResilienceWanker · 09/12/2021 22:40

Xmas Grin Yup. I'm sure All The Spads are lurking on this thread, going "you what now... why do you want THAT...???!"

I kind of agree, though. I want the public health people to do the presentation of the data and suggest possible implications of that to the NHS or whatever (a la Whitty and Vallance - regardless of what you think of them, they do talk a good graph, even if the data in the graphs are dodgy). I DON'T think they should be set up to do the government's dirty work for them though! And "suggesting" people "postpone" parties "for the general good" is too close to the wind imo. They can point out how many omicron cases have been linked to parties maybe (and to other settings) but its politicians jobs to convert that data into guidance/suggestions/ law or whatever. It's just a bit cowardly to get the scientists to do the fun killing... And everyone knows that that is what it is. PHS wouldn't say that kind of thing unprompted by the government. Or they'd get a total bollocking for spaffing the economy up the wall.

WouldBeGood · 09/12/2021 23:29

Anyone want to bet against lockdown?

OP posts:
frasersmummy · 10/12/2021 00:05

There is no way Boris gets away with lockdown at the moment ..there would be riots
And scotland can't afford furlough so I would say
No there won't be a lockdown..

Though I do think ns will say she wants one but can't because the UK won't bail her out

WouldBeGood · 10/12/2021 00:06

I think Boris is under pressure from those who do want it.

But I hope you’re right!

OP posts:
Lockdownbear · 10/12/2021 07:52

The leaker of the party has totally undermined any attempts to lockdown. That may explain the timing.

NS would like to lockdown but Boris will say No. The tiny bit of English flag waving doesn't make sense WFH but go clubbing Hmm

The bit I don't get is the clubs are still open but they are trying to discourage parties, what's the difference being out with a 100 folk you mix with daily or being out with 100 strangers?

ecceromani · 10/12/2021 08:04
