The railing never ends.

No resilience wankery, all railing welcome, along with good things or humorous asides.

I particularly love the old dolls.

MaxNormal · 08/12/2021 20:55

I reckon further down the line, people choosing to be unvaccinated, i mean choosing, not people who have allergies or medical conditions that mean they cant have the vaccines

Believe me when I say exemption is almost impossible to obtain.
People with very good medical reasons, including bad reactions to the vaccine, will be denied medical treatment if your prediction is correct.
@ResilienceWanker tickets to get into church, I'm somewhere between dumbstruck and utterly amazed that at a time when churches have falling numbers etc they have enough people wanting to go they need tickets.
Must be a fab minister!
Xmas Grin I think the fact its a cathedral with a bloody good choir helps!

And yes, maple - the chat about stepping up carefulness isn't really reading the room as far as I can see. We can be as careful as we like and still catch or spread the bloody thing. It being airborne and all... What she really wants to say is "don't go anywhere you may see anyone else" given that's the only surefire way of not catching it. But as she can't do that, she's implying that if we're "careful" enough we can avoid it. Well, no.

mapleleavesreturn · 08/12/2021 21:15

Exactly same old if you're good boys and girls chat...well I've been very good and guess what, mutations happen because as has long been fantastically obvious we don't have a closed economy and possibly haven't for 50 years or more, possibly ever.

runningpink · 08/12/2021 21:24

Why has nothing been done to help the NHS in all this time. What happened to all the money made in all the lockdown fundraisers?

Im utterly exhausted by it all.

I wonder if they will reduce the number of people you can meet in a group again and reintroduce social distancing?

I have my first night out this weekend, albeit outside, it better go ahead. Last year the Christmas message happened an hour before our zoom night in and spoilt it.

Scottishskifun · 08/12/2021 21:35

I am so sick of the language! Be careful follow our rules.....its a bloody virus!!! Which is in the air unless we all become bubble people it's impossible to avoid forever!

The language is also dangerous as it gives the impression that if you do catch it somehow your not following it, it's your fault etc etc. Some of the reactions we got as a family from acquaintances was shocking as if we must have done something because the govt says if we all wash our hands etc then we won't catch it 🤬

You see that some people have really bought into that it's peoples fault especially on mumsnet it's disgusting.

IsurviveonCoffeeandWinein2021 · 08/12/2021 21:41

Do you know what gets to me they are using the NHS as a pawn. When it boils down to it the people that will be treating patients are just like us. It isn't them cancelling clinics or cancer treatment etc but they will get all the abuse. Not the pricks working from home.

Everyone has struggled. Well the working class anyway. Can't isolate? Tough we will make it a stigma so you are vilified. Question the government? Your a conspiracy nut. Worry about the vaccine? Your anti vax and irresponsible:

These people have not lost so much as a days wage. Remember when prince phillip was unwell Charles was allowed to go see him when the rest of the country wasn't allowed to be with dying relatives.

Most folk have just done their best. About time we point the finger where it lies. Squarely at governments door for thinking they can control a fucking virus

Probably never. We've not had a closed economy for a few centuries at least. Sad but true, lots of things were built in Glasgow and Edinburgh off the backs of Caribbean slaves.Blush The cotton mills at New Lanark were built centuries ago. The cotton wasn't exactly grown local.
Lockdownbear · 08/12/2021 21:49

@runningpink I was thinking that too what are they doing to bolster the NHS?
It takes 3/4 years to train a nurse, are they training more, are they trying to get more to refresh return to nursing?

They need to put more effort in to get us out this mess, we can't have every December a new variant found and they all shite their pants.

Y0uCann0tBeSer10us · 08/12/2021 21:56

"Re UK gov announcement of Covid Plan B today, all these protections are already in place in Flag of Scotland and have helped us get Delta cases down."

How Nicola starts her twitter thread to test the waters and see what kind of reaction it gets I can't quite believe the brass neck of this, and anyone who's been paying the slightest bit of attention will be raising an eyebrow. Yes, England's plan B is pretty much what we've all been living with since August, WITHOUT A F BREAK, and we had huge peaks regardless! It most certainly did not "get Delta cases down", the virus just did its thing according to natural infection cycles. This is not something to be smug about, in a 'see, I told you my approach was right' kind of way. It will almost certainly have negligible effect on spread on it's own, and the real hope lies with booster vaccines keeping omicron cases mild.

2022HereWeCome · 09/12/2021 11:37

A lot of the problem with NHS staffing comes from T&Cs which are somewhat counterproductive. So I know a few people who trained to be nurses 2-5 years ago ... not one took up a permanent job within the NHS despite the fact that there were loads of jobs on offer. They preferred to go on the staff bank to pick and choose when and where they worked and to get a higher rater of pay.

Likewise there are a lot of staff on part-time contracts get paid extra for doing overtime and overtime is encouraged. Some friends have quietly commented that if staff didn't take on loads of overtime there wouldn't be the rate of sickness or burnout there is. And add in the fact that there is very generous paid dependency leave on top of annual leave ....

Scottishskifun · 09/12/2021 12:22

@2022HereWeCome agree on the t and c when they changed the community midwife rules a few years ago my area went from 6 to 2 as it was completely inflexible to having a family life being on call so much! But they didn't listen to those concerns and pushed it through anyway

WouldBeGood · 09/12/2021 12:22

It’s clear that the NHS isn’t working. But it’s too much of a holy cow to criticise

OP posts:
Tiredoftiers · 09/12/2021 12:32

Part of the problem is the complete inflexibility of the shift work. Mixtures of nights and days in one week. Working weekends, and Christmas and being at the mercy of a someone not specifically trained in formulating a rota. . Only receiving one weeks notice prior to next rota starting.

Add into the mix covid, with isolation etc. And it's a shit show. If everyone who is a suspected contact of omicron has to isolate for 10 days whether vaccinated or not, the NHS will break even if it does not lead to a direct increase in admissions due to the covid.

ecceromani · 09/12/2021 12:40

And it's a shit show. If everyone who is a suspected contact of omicron has to isolate for 10 days whether vaccinated or not, the NHS will break

I suspect this rule will be dropped when it starts to hit nhs staffing Hmm

And re an earlier post, part-time nhs staff do not get paid overtime when they work additional hrs. They get paid the hourly rate for the job.
They have to work 37.5hrs before getting paid at overtime rate.

Lockdownbear · 09/12/2021 12:40

The rotas do sound a nightmare. People need more stability in shifts.

So it's much more than just getting People is sorting the rotas to enable people to plan.

Y0uCann0tBeSer10us · 09/12/2021 12:42

So it's not COVID that's a threat to the NHS so much as the COVID rules? On a backdrop of an under-resourced and poorly managed NHS to start with clearly. If you relax the rules a bit to cover people who are actually ill having to isolate (rather than just testing positive, not ill in a traditional sense and much less likely to spread), perhaps enhanced PPE for the rest, you solve a lot of potential staffing issues. Seriously, what's more dangerous, an asymptomatic (read healthy) person wearing PPE, or being so dangerously understaffed that you can't look after patients and have to cancel operations?

WouldBeGood · 09/12/2021 13:09

I think it’s the covid rules that are the problem all round, rather than the covid. Even more so now so many people are jagged

Well there’s a surprise! 🙄

Scottishskifun · 09/12/2021 17:41

Public health Scotland is "urging people to cancel Christmas parties...." they don't actually have powers but you can bet loads of places will follow!

We aren't allowed one got to be happy with a walk apparently but it sucks for hospitality businesses yet again!

IsurviveonCoffeeandWinein2021 · 09/12/2021 17:45

I have just seen that @Scottishskifun

What a farce it's death by a thousand cuts for hospitality

Tiredoftiers · 09/12/2021 17:50

I’m dreading the announcement tomorrow Xmas Sad

user1487194234 · 09/12/2021 17:50

The Scottish government really seem to want to damage the hospitality sector

ResilienceWanker · 09/12/2021 18:02

Oh buggerooni. Xmas Angry Well, DH has his (outdoors) Christmas party tonight (rain due in about an hour, apparently....) and I'm in an exceedingly sparkly bar with DS, getting a pre-sports class pizza Xmas Blush so at least we're doing something a bit festive before we get banned.
