I think they'll surely need to start giving out LFTs in boxes of more than five, it's a pain, a family doing all the right things could easily go through a box every few days.

MrsPerfect12 · 05/01/2022 15:04

Yay, I'm delighted - freedom for me and back to school for the children Grin

Yes, I was thinking that! A household doing a daily test each could easily need a box every day or two (do some boxes only have 5? I think ours have had 7 but I should check!) and they haven't been that easy to get hold of recently. I don't want to panic order, but I feel we could easily run out if we DO need them, and we're only 3 people!
rookiemere · 05/01/2022 15:21

I wonder how it will work for insurance for holidays, as currently they'd require proof of covid through a pcr. Small details of course in the grand scheme of things as happy things are being relaxed.

TalkedTooMuchStayedTooLong · 05/01/2022 15:36

I am now totally confused! DS had positive lateral flow yesterday so we all had PCRs today... I guess we have to isolate until we get results still...

But I'm fully vaccinated plus booster plus have had covid already, DTs are 14 (and have had one jab ) so under new regs we would just need to take daily lateral flows...

So, if PCRs come back negative for us all we can all go about our business...

If DS is positive and rest are negative do new rules apply even though positive lateral flow, and indeed PCRs were prior to the change in rules????

ICalledYouLastNightFromGlasgow · 05/01/2022 15:46

@ExcuseeeeMe

So does that mean the class bubbles they were bringing back are now no longer ?
I don't think that class bubbles for isolating are a thing. If someone in the class tests positive, everyone just carries on as normal unless they've had a sleepover.
thehillswerebright · 05/01/2022 15:47

My eldest tested positive with lat flow on Monday and pcr results positive today. I was fine with it, right 10 days in the house etc and I'll get paid. Now with the change of rules am I going to have to stay home unpaid to look after her? Im so stressed!

thehillswerebright · 05/01/2022 15:48

Meant to say rest of us went for pcr tests today so have to isolate till they come back anyway

Justmuddlingalong · 05/01/2022 15:51

DP has received a letter today stating that he's eligible for the new covid treatment should he be unlucky enough to get it. He can ask for a PCR test to keep at home if he has symptoms. Anyone else heard from the SG about it?

thehillswerebright · 05/01/2022 16:09

@Justmuddlingalong my husband got the same letter. My husband has immune issues so I think it's for the most vulnerable

Scottishskifun · 05/01/2022 16:31

@Justmuddlingalong there is a new antiviral drug for the most vulnerable which reduces the risk of hospitalisation. But crucially it needs to be taken within 5 days of symptoms/getting covid.
I am presuming that with the testing/PCR delays its so he can quickly test and therefore get the drug available within the time frame.

Justmuddlingalong · 05/01/2022 16:41

He's got the double whammy of diabetes and cancer, so that makes sense. The letter says he can get a PCR test to keep at home, but I can't find out how to order one online when you don't currently have symptoms. I'll leave it a few days and check again when hopefully the websites have been updated.

Justmuddlingalong · 05/01/2022 17:04

Just found this on the website in case it's of use to anyone else eligible for the antibody treatment.

Call 119 if you:
have not received a PCR test kit by 10 January 2022
develop symptoms before your PCR test arrives
have lost your PCR test or it has any damage or missing parts

ecceromani · 05/01/2022 18:14

Isolation rules to follow England per being cut to 7 days following 2 negative LF tests

No @dancemom I think we're following Canada Grin

thehillswerebright · 05/01/2022 21:35

@TalkedTooMuchStayedTooLong a message has just gone out from some schools in my area saying that it's not retrospective so basically the 10 days still applies if before tomorrow

TalkedTooMuchStayedTooLong · 05/01/2022 21:39

Thanks for that...

I messaged my line manager (deputy head) and they seem to be following new rules 🤷‍♀️... kids at same school so would apply to them too... but we've to wait for PCR results anyway first... he was interpreting them as they come out so that may change... also, it's an independent school which may make a difference...

Kshhuxnxk · 05/01/2022 21:41

In a statement to the Scottish Parliament, First Minister Nicola Sturgeon announced that anyone who tests positive for Covid-19, regardless of vaccination status, must still self-isolate for 10 days. However, from tomorrow, 6 January, new cases will be advised they can end self-isolation if they don’t have a fever and test negative on a Lateral Flow Device (LFD) on Day 6 and again at least 24 hours later. So anything before midnight is the 'old' rules.

WouldBeGood · 05/01/2022 21:42

But that makes absolutely no sense!

MrsPerfect12 · 05/01/2022 21:46

What about close contacts that are not positive? It's clear on the website for positive but not those that are contacts and negative. Do you think we still have to do the 10 isolation?

TalkedTooMuchStayedTooLong · 05/01/2022 21:48

@WouldBeGood

But that makes absolutely no sense!
It really doesn't!

@Kshhuxnxk did she same if same was true for negative household contacts? New rules would imply we could end isolation and lateral flow test daily... but if that only applies to PCRs after midnight tonight we're stuck...

ecceromani · 05/01/2022 21:49

Does the "new case" apply to people who go for a test from tomorrow onwards or who receive their result from tomorrow though??

TalkedTooMuchStayedTooLong · 05/01/2022 21:49

*did she say the same

TalkedTooMuchStayedTooLong · 05/01/2022 21:50

@ecceromani

Does the "new case" apply to people who go for a test from tomorrow onwards or who receive their result from tomorrow though??
Good question...
ResilienceWanker · 06/01/2022 08:22

It really is unclear isn't it! And bonkers, especially if it does apply to contacts too. So someone could be either stuck inside unable to go to work or school for the next 9 days, or free to do whatever (subject to lft) for the same time period, depending on whether their housemate tested positive yesterday or today Confused... As the whole shebang is guidance anyway, I know which I'd do Wink. But if your employer is being strict, that's really difficult.

MrsPerfect12 · 06/01/2022 08:44

I called the track and trace line this morning and a recorded message came up stating that positive tests and close contacts prior to the 6th need to follow the advise the were given on isolation. Why oh why can't they just put this on the website clearly!
