That could still be coming @Scottishskifun. I wouldn't rule it out.

WouldBeGood · 27/11/2021 18:03

Sorry @Scottishskifun but I think it’s fucking ridiculous

What do they have to gain though by returning to masks? If there really is no cause for alarm then why do they do it? There must be some potential issue surely?

Scottishskifun · 27/11/2021 18:15

I think it's a wait and see I mean I have zero plans to follow any Christmas lockdown we will be going regardless!

I prefer Borris announces something (which still isn't as strict as here at the moment!) then NS go on her own little merry way and introduce laws again banning travel to England because she wants to "protect Scotland".

Let them get full data and if as said it actually gives a slightly different PCR reading without genetic testing then that's going to be a much quicker process.

We still have way more restrictions than England will do after their change!

Do I have to add "fuck off Humza" to my current repertoire of "fuck off Nicola"?
alicesfavouritepen · 27/11/2021 18:19

I'm actually stunned he's backtracked on masks tbh.

Masks reduce face to face transmission, they aren't brilliant once sat in an enclosed space (the cloth ones don't do much).

It will be to reduce that element if they think it's highly infectious especially the face to face.
Hospitality there isn't much point (only SG think it's magic... 🙄) as your sat without one on for the majority of time therefore it doesn't reduce anything!

alicesfavouritepen · 27/11/2021 18:23

Retail and public transport are enclosed spaces are they not? Not sure if I'm missing something here.

WouldBeGood · 27/11/2021 18:24

Masks do fuck all. This is very clear now with England and Scotland and the European countries.

It’s cos the media are screeching for them, and lockdown

OP posts:
alicesfavouritepen · 27/11/2021 18:25

@WouldBeGood we must be consuming different media!

WouldBeGood · 27/11/2021 18:25

But as this is railing, I shall simply rail impotently against all this fuckwittery.

And spend my holiday money on Sherry, heroin, and fags

Public transport definitely is yes but there isn't much they can do in the small box like type.

Retail depends on the setting most have reasonable ventilation/heating systems which now have to follow HSE guidelines. Think of supermarket, shopping centre, B and Q generally they are pretty lofty above your head it's just we don't tend to look at the cellings. Small local shops still pretty enclosed but the bigger ones generally have a lot of head height.

I completely get it another spanner in the works let's just hope NS doesn't go on a must be seen to do more then Boris approach again!

alicesfavouritepen · 27/11/2021 19:17

Hmm I'm not convinced. Sounds like more Boris bullshit to me.

Schools are also enclosed spaces and don't generally have 'head height'. Whitty us expressed concern over the school situation today but strangely no mention in the announcement.

Masks either make a difference or they don't. If they do then they should be everywhere. If they don't then they should be nowhere.

I've always erred on the side of 'they just work because Whitty et al say that they do' this pick and mix approach infuriates me though.

WouldBeGood · 27/11/2021 19:19

It’s total bull. Back to being seen to be Doing Something.

how do my DM and DF arrange the PCR test? They are currently abroad. Do they do it before they travel, do it at heathrow, do it at glasgow or do it at home?

runningpink · 27/11/2021 19:56

Glad you got power back @Scottishskifun

Iv been out/busy all day. Has Boris done an announcement or is the mask stuff media prediction?

Why does it still feel like we haven’t progressed in all this time. Iv had enough

They need to have it booked and paid for in advance of flying back as they will need the reference number for the passenger locator form. There are test areas in airports if they want the ease of it they are generally more expensive or there is a list of suppliers online. I don't suggest randox unless they have a drop box nearby we used nationwide pathology as you just need to find closest royal mail priority box. You can book it for them and send them the code as long as you have their details they just arrive through the letter box they are about £40 each with them.

Borris has reintroduced day 2 PCR tests for international arrival and isolation til results, masks in shops and public transport in England and isolation if a contact of the new variant so people would be told by track and trace.

The main one which effects here currently is arrival PCR as our rules on masks are still stricter then what he announced today.
The isolation if a contact of the new variant would as well unknown how many UK cases 2 so far but its quicker to identify then delta so hopefully that will limit it a bit

ElephantOfRisk · 27/11/2021 20:28

I'm railing against the lies and shite that the SNP put in their wee newspaper that they snuck into my letterbox when I wasn't looking. Pile of absolute shite that I wonder who has paid for. Now you'd think by the law of averages there would be one of them that wasn't inept stupid, corrupt, a liar or a combination of all of those, it appears not.

DH so angry that he's scrawled "Lies" all over it and taped it to a lamppost - I just wanted to set it on fire.

Between that and the MSM trying to cause panic - again - sick fed up of the lot of it.

readsalotgirl63 · 27/11/2021 22:02

@scottishskifun - can you link to the company you used for PCR tests please. ? Dsis is arranging travel to Scotland for a funeral and now needs PCR test and (fingers crossed) negative result turned around quickly so she can actually attend funeral.
She was planning to arrive on a Tuesday for a Thursday funeral which woul have been fine with a lateral flow test.

Scottishskifun · 27/11/2021 22:16

@readsalotgirl63 here is there website nwp-online.co.uk if it's for a funeral and she needs it quickly though she might be better in a in person test so boots or the airport although these are more expensive.

readsalotgirl63 · 27/11/2021 22:25

Thanks @scottishskifun - that's really helpful. Could she get a test on arrival at Glasgow ?
