@Mistressiggi

This is the same SNP who sent pupils back without any social distancing in August 2020 because they bowed to the pressure of a so-called parent group? Not a whiff of vaccines back then. Where were the all-powerful unions when John Swinney did a complete 360 degree turn in the last week of term and ditched the safety mitigations? How well did unions manage to make education staff become any of the vaccine priority groups (they didn't). And when we asked to finish a couple of days early last Christmas so it was possible to join in the christmas fun and not be contact traced on Christmas Day - nope, unions didn't succeed in sorting that either. I actually wish they were even half as powerful as you're imagining them to be.
Agreed. The posts in here are fantasy. We had three teachers who did not catch covid out of our whole school. Two staff members were hospitalised, one is still in hospital. The remaining three contacted the union as they did not feel safe being in school. The union contacted the education bosses but the school was kept open ( teachers were drafted in from other schools / supply) because otherwise '100 families would not be able to go to work'. Yes, there were only 100 pupils still in as so many were positive. Some parents said they would not even test their children. I had around 18 positives in my class so no wonder I was so ill. I really can't stress enough how little the union influences those in charge of education, at a council level.

Just catching up and agree that Larry is a bellend. Shite English teacher to boot.

I don't think he holds any juice though. As the teachers here said the government just bow to whoever makes the most noise at a particular time.

That makes me detest them even more. I hate vaccine passports think they should not be used but the fact they bowed to backlash again the other day makes me sick.

If this is about health and not politics then you do whatever is needed. We all know one way or another that's not the case.

In other news I'm railing about how fucking cold it is and my dickhead dog just jumped up and spilled coffee over my cosy white oodie 😭

Justmuddlingalong · 26/11/2021 11:20

Not a rail, just a heads-up.
A red weather warning for parts of the east coast has been issued. Possibility of power cuts, so best be prepared just in case.

Scottishskifun · 26/11/2021 11:32

Yep it's pretty wild up here been snowing too

Lockdownbear · 26/11/2021 11:43

It's not often they issue red warnings.

ElephantOfRisk · 26/11/2021 11:49

Is it bad @Scottishskifun?

This is the evening (and tomorrow) that DS2 drives (and collects) his GF to her night shifts out at Bucksburn

runningpink · 26/11/2021 11:55

I see that they are worried about a new variant and red countries have been added to the list

runningpink · 26/11/2021 11:56

I’m praying for no snow as I need to be in Edinburgh tomorrow for numerous things which need to be done tomorrow.

Where are those of you about who have snow?

Scottishskifun · 26/11/2021 12:18

@elephantofrisk it's pretty bad yes trees bending, the snow isn't settling luckily but it's thick and swirly. That's a very main road route with not many trees along it so he should be OK might be a wheely bin or 3 depending! I'm quite a way out of the city.

Would give himself extra time and check the roads before he leaves though. The local radio stations or Facebook updates are pretty good for it.

@runningpink Aberdeenshire a good few hours north of Edinburgh

ElephantOfRisk · 26/11/2021 12:24

thanks for that @Scottishskifun, i'll message him and see what it's like in the city. He's a good driver but you never stop worrying while they are out in bad conditions.

In other news, DS1 had his one hour a fortnight at Uni today. Unfortunately they cancelled it this morning but he didn't get the message until he was already on the train to Glasgow. So he's had a wee trip down, bought himself a meal deal and got on the train home again.

ecceromani · 26/11/2021 14:21

I'm here to rail about Sainsburys.
Was in one this morning with large clothes section. Note on the changing rooms that they've taken the decision not to reopen their changing rooms "cos covid"🤷🏼‍♀️
So I've bought some trousers which I'll now have to take back as they're too short
And I don't go there v often as not that convenientHmm

Lockdownbear · 26/11/2021 14:26

That actually sounds a sneeky marketing ploy. It forces you to either keep or return to the shop, which means your likely to double up with picking up other stuff while you are there.

ecceromani · 26/11/2021 14:42

You may be right @Lockdownbear.
I certainly won't be buying any more clothes from them until I can try them on!

Lockdownbear · 26/11/2021 14:57

The other thing is if you don't have changing rooms, you don't need to staff them, clean them or pay rates on floor space that isn't generating cash.

Remember that time you could buy clothes in a supermarket but not in a clothes shop.

Scottishskifun · 26/11/2021 19:01

The weather has gone completely wild now!
I'm just hoping my roof stay on!

ElephantOfRisk · 26/11/2021 19:34

Fingers crossed for you 🤞

DSs girlfriend has given up that job so he doesn't have to go out in it after all.

Wind picking up in Stirling, cat doesn't want to go out, she hates her fur getting ruffled.

Scottishskifun · 27/11/2021 00:42

It's probably the worst storm I can remember and we get several each Autumn/Winter.

We have had to "camp" downstairs in our house the noise upstairs is horrific, powercut for several hours now glad we have a wood burner it's kept the house warm at least.

runningpink · 27/11/2021 06:33

Hope everyone has survived the night? It was quite scary at times listening to the wind howling.

Do you have power yet @Scottishskifun?

WouldBeGood · 27/11/2021 08:44

Gosh, hope everyone is ok!

Yes power is back thankfully set up on the vulnerable list due to DS age. It's been a long night the garden is a mess, trees down loads of roads still blocked and a police van had a lucky escape.

We have at least been dry and warm with a fire. Definitely feeling sorry for the people stuck on a train near Huntly for 17 hours!
