They’re a useless bunch of tossers with no idea if the real world
DH keeps mentioning Bonhhoeffer's Theory of Stupidity.

I couldn't agree more resiliencewanker. If we need genuinely need more restrictions crack on with them Nikki. If we don't, for god sake stop putting the fear up all these poor businesses. DS's work is discussing how they'll deal with a vax passport if it comes in. It's a large public building that doesn't normally have anyone on the door. So they think they'll have to organise entry by ticket again.

Or could it possibly be that the SG are trying to gauge public opinion and will base their decision on thatHmm

OnceUponAWhine · 16/11/2021 16:29

Whaaat? Where is this room that you speak of? I really need this in my life.

Scottishskifun · 16/11/2021 16:31

@ResilienceWanker yep couldn't agree more and was very disappointing to hear NS rather then be clear and upfront for those businesses instead launch attacks on any of the questions raised which for once were actually very valid and reasonable from all parties and basically said its tough to be in the govt and easy for opposition to criticise.....

But all opposition parties were trying to get genuine answers for businesses to stop this crazy limbo status!

WouldBeGood · 16/11/2021 16:44

@OnceUponAWhine Rage Room

It was on an itison email today! No idea how good, but does sound satisfying.

She does realise that this is exactly the purpose of the opposition? To question and get clarity and temper the control? So is Blackford going to say, "ah well Boris, we realise how hard it is to be in government, so you just crack on and do your best lad"?

ADreadedSunnyDay · 16/11/2021 16:46

I think the problem with Covid is that no one really knows how that are going to be affected until they get it. I have known unvaccinated people have worse colds (earlier this year), primary school aged kids having a fever for a few hours and that's it, friend who says that they'd had symptoms for almost 6 months after having Covid (although reported symptoms could also be caused by other things such as peri menopause), and sadly one person who was really ill and hospitalised for weeks (pre vaccination programme).

I wish the narrative would change to 'even if you get ill, we have good treatments now' and 'we need more research into understand what exactly is long-Covid, why it happens and how does it differ from other post-viral illnesses' and 'if you want to protect your health, stay a healthy weight and keep active'

WouldBeGood · 16/11/2021 17:10

@ElephantOfRisk good point! I hope she's been clear that her MPs must not criticise Boris!

@ADreadedSunnyDay that’s such a good point: we never hear that public health message from any government and yet it makes the most sense.

I also had the same chest symptoms along with fatigue and maybe the slightest cough. The sensation was like an elephant sitting on my chest or a bra ten sizes too small. Also a burning chest especially when I walked or breathed in more deeply. The fatigue and shortness of breath lasted a few weeks.

I had this back in March 2020 so I was not tested. I'm pleased that it sounds like I did actually have Covid as the chest symptoms were not recognised at this time.

Glad you have now recovered.

Yup...this exactly! They go all snarky if anyone tries to criticize it (oh, you'd rather have restrictions brought in straight away, would you...?) but they just don't seem to understand that in the real world people would rather have certainty (even if it's stupid certainty that they disagree with and rail against) than the constant threat of "something, but we're not telling you what".

A rage room sounds just the ticket!

Haha! Yes, exactly. I'm expecting a lot less backchat to BJ from the SNP benches from now on... It's a hard job, and a bit of support wouldn't go amiss, y'know.

Mine was March 2020 too, so I don't know for sure that it was definitely covid. Assuming it was based on a) having antibodies later and b) that being the only illness I had between then and the start of covid, plus the symptoms. But I guess there's an outside chance I had something else and then asymptomatic covid some time in 2020?

WouldBeGood · 16/11/2021 17:43

I had pretty much exactly those symptoms and was in bed (as in couldn’t get up other than to the loo) for about six days - but it was 2019, so not Covid. I was exhausted and breathless for a couple of months after. Horrible

@Scottishskifun so update as my DH is just back from his. He was told the guidance had only just changed ( think yesterday ) so that if you were 22+ weeks and were coming for both flu & covid, you'd get vaccinated but it was 24+ weeks if you're only getting covid booster. Sounds odd and particularly skewed away from what I was hoping to hear - but I'll be attending my appointment tomorrow anyway. 23 weeks and 2 day. Will let you know how I get on.

Scottishskifun · 16/11/2021 18:21

Thanks @LizzieMacQueen that's completely random and in that case I will argue with them as I've already had my flu jab! 😂

Scottishskifun · 16/11/2021 18:24

Yep same burning sensation when breathing and elephant on the chest.

@WouldBeGood I was given steroids within a few days and actually this made a huge difference to my chest. There are definitely more treatments available now and it's a case of calling 111 to then be video assessed if required. I don't know how many people do this though

WouldBeGood · 16/11/2021 18:54

That would have been good. Tbh I felt so poorly I really couldn’t even think of ringing: eventually DD made me seek help!

I was a virus bore on MN-under a different name-banging on about the hideous virus I had in Dec 2019. It was the worst virus I could remember having as an adult, I was literally in tears some days. Definitely had post viral fatigue and dreadful muscle aches for ages after. I had a doctors appointment (remember those?) as I thought it was a chest infection and I was out in less than 5 minutes, with a prescription for an inhaler and the reassurance that ‘it is just a virus’Hmm

Anyhoo, I’m going to look up that room in Glasgow- I imagine it’s fully booked after days like today in Holyrood Confused. I may even create one at home, for when we can’t go anywhere in the depths of winter ( laughs and head spins )

😂 Well that would be one to watch!

Yes I did find it bizarre! It's a complete nightmare for businesses!

Tiredoftiers · 16/11/2021 19:10

@OnceUponAWhine I had that virus in 2019. My lungs were so bad that I was convinced if I got covid I would die straightaway. I then am pretty certain I had covid in the march. Burning lungs, sore throat, loss of taste, headache and cough. This time round though, it’s just lingering! And seems to be working it’s way through a plethora of symptoms. Even had a vibrating foot…. Just no cough, fever or altered taste/smell 🤷‍♀️

ElephantOfRisk · 16/11/2021 19:39

I had presumed covid in March 2020 - close contact to a confirmed case, tight chest, cough, headache etc.

However I have had severe chest infections in previous years with similar symptoms though the cough went from tight to "productive" which it never did with the presumed covid, that was more an irritating cough that lasted for a few months.

Lockdownbear · 16/11/2021 19:45

I was chatting to someone who works at Grangemouth. A section has some Chinese workers, someone around October / November 19, the Chinese were starting to wear face masks. They queried "Why the face masks" and were told "because of a germ"

I'm convinced Covid was circulating long before the Chinese confessed to it.

ElephantOfRisk · 16/11/2021 19:59

The only problem I have with the theory that it was here a lot earlier is where is the evidence of hospitalisations and deaths? Even building in lead time, we'd surely have seen something in January/Feb 2020?

I haven't looked at any fine detail figures but I can't see anything that shows that there was anything in particular happening then. Cases could have been attributed to flu or whatever but would there have been the start of rising deaths earlier?
