It is and very silly of you to forget.

The guys that invented it in that lab must be so proud.

I'm railing about the embarrassment of an Israeli delegate who is a wheelchair user not being able to access the conference yesterdayBlushWhoever organised the shuttle transport didn't think to include wheelchair accessible vehicles!
FFS it's 2021

WouldBeGood · 02/11/2021 12:15

It’s ironic that if Greta were at school here she’d be masked all day every day

Maybe if they'd been Palestinian then more effort would be made?
sartorius · 02/11/2021 12:54

It reminded me of BBC sports personality of the year when Tanni grey Thompson was runner up and, despite knowing she was a finalist, no-one had organised wheelchair acces to the stage!
But that was about 20yrs ago and I really thought we had moved on.
But clearly not🤷🏼‍♀️

Scottishskifun · 02/11/2021 13:49

@Lockdownbear

Where was Greta and Queen Nics face coverings Angry
😂 I think I'm working too much and fatigued........

When I first read this I thought genius everyone wearing cardboard NS and Greta faces.... Blush
Then I remembered oh yeah scottish regs and masks! 😂

Lockdownbear · 02/11/2021 14:37
Grin It's still really bugging me that teenagers are masked up all day. It has to be having an affect on them. It's shameful that kids in their first and second years at uni have barely met their classmates. Wtf is that doing to their MH ?

I just think it's all been forgotten about, meanwhile 1000s of folk decend on Glasgow pumping out more C02 than anything else.

NS false faces would be funny, with face covering could have made a good Halloween 🎃 outfit Grin

And I still don't understand what they're saying to me a lot of the time. We're trying to read a play. Hmm
WouldBeGood · 02/11/2021 16:53

@Haudyourwheesht that just must be impossible! It must impact learning. As well as being very frustrating for you

Teenagers have been totally forgotten in all this. Good point about if Greta T was at school here she'd be obliged to wear a mask.

Utterly ridiculous that our kids are all still masked up while their peers in England can get back to normal. All to support NS's wee power trip. (that's the only explanation I can see for it! ) Furious! Angry

ADreadedSunnyDay · 02/11/2021 19:24

I care about the environment and try to do what I can BUT COP26 has got right up my nose because of the hypocrisy of it all. I cannot understand why it was deemed necessary for hundreds of delegates and 10,000s of support staff and associated protestors to meet face-to-face etc etc. It could have been a virtual event with delegates meeting in their own countries if necessary and doing a virtual link up to discuss issues.

WouldBeGood · 02/11/2021 19:37

I agree. Plus all the celebs hanging on to show their credentials

ElephantOfRisk · 02/11/2021 19:49

And now sturgeon trying to gaslight us about the adverts, I mean "obviously" it was nothing to do with independence Hmm But then no-one else thinks at her level.

It just makes me sick and basically that's her opinion on the intelligence of people in Scotland. She thinks we are all beneath her.

mapleleavesreturn · 02/11/2021 19:53

Plus cop26 is all staged, these agreements have been hammered out by the respective civil services beforehand with this being nothing more than a public relations pantomime.

I love Greta but I'm disappointed about her lending legitimacy to any leader on this issue. Blah blah blah...

Scottishskifun · 02/11/2021 20:00

I do get to a certain extent holding it in person having sat in virtual meetings with +25 people and different locations signing in it's a bit of a nightmare. But I also think it could have been scaled back to the people who really needed to be there to make decisions and not the number that is there nor the 100,000 protestors.

The adverts really pissed me off along with the response from the SG when called out on it! I want the SG to focus on pandemic recovery and climate change stop side tracking shite whilst kids are still spending all day in masks, services are curtailed and DH and I still have to work at bloody home!

WouldBeGood · 02/11/2021 21:29

It’s making me not give a shit about the climate tbh.

They obviously don’t care 🤷🏻‍♀️

OP posts:
amazeandastonish · 02/11/2021 21:47

I don't think Greta makes much sense.
She doesn't seem to know what her argument is. "no more blah blah blah" is just too vague and singing "shove your climate crisis up your arse" - isn't that effectively saying she doesn't care there's a crisis?
I'd rather listen to someone who makes the argument more professionally like David Attenborough or someone who's experiencing the effects like in one of the African nations.

Scottishskifun · 02/11/2021 21:56

I think the media focuses on the easy targets such as flying in etc when actually aviation is a small contributor to overall levels.
It's important to get agreements on the big stuff whether they will stick to them is to be seen.
There is no magic bullet as much as protestors will say stop all fossil fuels for example when so many products (including many of the wonderful masks the SG make us wear) are made with. Alternatives to things like medical equipment need to be developed it's not a switch given our reliance every day on these products from households to hospitals.

WouldBeGood · 02/11/2021 22:03

I think it’s fair for the media to complain about the jetting in as these people are trying to tell us plebs not to fly!

OP posts:
WouldBeGood · 02/11/2021 22:28

Especially as it’s now alleged flights from Prestwick to Glasgow… though surely this can’t be true?

OP posts:
Scottishskifun · 02/11/2021 22:37

It just becomes a side distraction though (bit like the squirrels) and avoids the major issues being discussed which have a far bigger impact.

I think it's understanding what contributions you make as a individual and where you can reduce them. I will definitely still be flying, on the flip side we only eat meat once or twice a week which we buy local, have a local veg box etc. Likewise the majority of DS toys are made from wood and I mostly buy second hand clothes. These are all things which reduce our personal footprint.

For someone else it will be walking or taking public transport. Its got to work for the person to be achievable and sustained.

WouldBeGood · 02/11/2021 22:41

It demonstrates the hypocrisy of world leaders, and the fact they don’t believe in or care about climate change. Which means that there’s no point ordinary people worrying about it as our actions will make no difference.

*scurries off to book flights and crank heating up

Started to read the "Im a mum at COP AMA" on aibu but gave me the rage so stopped.

Sorry - am wfh so spend quite a lot of time listening to dh rant about the inefficiencies of heat pumps and electric cars - he is NOT a Greta fan !

ADreadedSunnyDay · 03/11/2021 10:36

The only way to tackle climate change is to consume less - full stop. And the biggest issue is overpopulation of the planet.

Scottishskifun · 03/11/2021 10:38

I would love to get a hybrid car but it always seems to be that people that don't have drives are completely overlooked in any of the decisions with practicalities!
Our nearest charge point is 10 miles away at a supermarket can't really be going there regularly and sitting for the number of hours required.

It's also having the space for the kit, DHs granny has a air source pump but it's huge and it's also pretty loud all day. OK for them as they are rural but in towns that's a lot of noise. I think technology has a long way to go to get them to an acceptable standard and acceptable cost before they get forced on everyone.
But SG is already forcing it with the removal of boiler fundings for low income houses as soon as they signed a agreement with the Greens!
