Thanks @titsintiers I'll give it a go and bring my letter as well.
It's a nosebleed inducing cheap seat in the Grand Circle anyway so not much lost if I can't get in.

WouldBeGood · 10/11/2021 16:09

France, land of vaccine passports to blow your nose, has soaring cases 🤷🏻‍♀️ They’re truly pointless.

OP posts:
WouldBeGood · 10/11/2021 16:10

Vaccine passports, not the French

OP posts:
Scottishskifun · 10/11/2021 16:25

Parts of Germany are enforcing them for restaurants etc. I doubt NS will listen to concerns!

Apparently the wedding industry has been called in for a meeting on them according to twitter......

And people were telling me in August there was no difference between holding a wedding in Scotland and England in Aug..... Uhuh

rookiemere · 10/11/2021 16:26

@WouldBeGood is it sad that I'm getting some mild amusement about the posters on the main covid boards who usually decry the British inability to do covid restrictions properly with bonus points for those actually in a foreign country who trill on about their tedious measures in their own language "passe sanitaire" donchaknow.

On the other hand we're now fairly heavily invested in a Feb half term French ski holiday and if I change the Easyjet flights again, then we'd probably have spent enough to buy the actual company ( if not to pay for check in luggage), so I do have a vested interest in the French sorting themselves out.

WouldBeGood · 10/11/2021 16:28

Germany also soaring despite passports and fancy masks

OP posts:
rookiemere · 10/11/2021 16:29

Hope Spain ok for the next couple of weeks - booked a weekend to Barcelona.

WouldBeGood · 10/11/2021 16:30

@rookiemere I’m booked for France in Christmas holidays, so they’d better not fuck it up for me 🤣

@Scottishskifun the worry for those industries. It’s awful.

And the shops are full of sparkly party wear - hopeless if restrictions ruin the much needed festive fun

OP posts:
WouldBeGood · 10/11/2021 16:34

@rookiemere yes to the amusement! These obedient foreigners with their Proper Restrictions, eh?

OnceUponAWhine · 10/11/2021 16:48

@rookiemere

Are the Scottish vaccine apps acceptable in England? Booked to go to go and see The Mirror and the Light on Friday night in London and not sure what I need to get into the theatre. I could check I suppose, but where's the fun in that.
I didn’t have to show anything at big London theatre (half term) In a queue that made it seem like a check was about to happen, but in reality it was only for tickets and a bag search. We had just the PDFs on our phone, not the app have no intention of ever downloading just as I didn’t with track and trace one that was all we would have needed, if it had actually been checked Grin. Not saying that there won’t be checks at your theatre, but certainly you only need PDFs in some form. No masks once inside either. Fabulous night. Have a great trip.
GoldenOmber · 10/11/2021 16:58

Ah yes, the “DH and I are just back from two weeks in the Dordogne and EVERYONE in cafes was wearing masks without any complaint, no wonder the UK is doing the worst in Europe and indeed the whole world where everyone is looking at us in horror!” posters. I wonder what their explanation is for the current situation?

I notice England rates are still falling while ours are still not. Looks like most of our cases are in kids/teenagers though so hopefully the virus will run out of new ones to infect soon? DC1’s primary class has about half the kids off sick or waiting for results at the moment.

Groovee · 10/11/2021 17:14

After my hospital appointment on Monday was cancelled, I do have a new appointment 5 weeks away. It's tough because not being able to drive in the dark causes me a lot of issues.

Lockdownbear · 10/11/2021 17:23

Unfortunately I know a kid who's had it twice.
It's still odd England's rates are falling while Scotlands stay high.

GoldenOmber · 10/11/2021 17:50

Yeah you can get it twice, but it seems pretty unusual to get it twice in fast succession and most people get some immunity for at least some time. Which is my best bet for why it’s falling in England - their measures weren’t as strict, so more of them got it, so now there’s more immunity down there.

I wish our government would start trying some different things to lighten the NHS load if it’s that worried, not faffing about tweaking the vaccine passport scheme as if that’s going to do anything. Find the older/vulnerable people who aren’t vaccinated and ask if there’s anything that would persuade them (getting to choose which vaccine? having trusted GP do it? One-off payment of £400?). Or book out some hotels and let people stay in them free if they want if they test positive and don’t want to pass it on to their household?

Or look at all the other things that make people ill? We’re a really unhealthy, inactive country, and lockdowns haven’t helped. Take a look at people like my lovely MIL who was active and sociable before March 2020, now hardly sees anyone and hardly goes anywhere and never exercises and has aged about 15 years? She needs encouragement and support to get back out there and do things that are good for her overall health, not just Covid Covid Covid and repeated government adverts saying to meet people outdoors while sanitising your hands.

rookiemere · 10/11/2021 18:07

I've not been looking closely at the English figures since @dancemom does such a good job of reporting the Scottish ones, but I had a quick look on travelling tabby and the numbers are still pretty high and I think currently proportionately higher than Scotland's so I suspect we'll see a levelling off soon.

@GoldenOmber I've written before about my DPs, it's so terribly sad. DM has health anxiety and DF 88 with diabetes is effectively being kept prisoner at home whilst she has started going to some local shops on the bus. Their lives pre pandemic weren't a riot of excitement but they had meetings with their probus clubs and lunches out with their friends. I feel I should probably intervene on DFs behalf but if he then caught something DM would never forgive me. I just visit as much as I can cope with.

MaxNormal · 10/11/2021 18:29

@GoldenOmber that always makes me laugh. The contempt for dreadful Britain especially under the ghastly Tories, not like those wonderful Germans/Italians/French.

They've gone remarkably quiet about Germany's rising cases now.

@rookiemere I highly doubt anything much is going to change in Spain in the next couple of weeks, I'm here just now. It is masktastic (the virus very obediently leaves you alone when eating or drinking indoors apparently), but other than that there's no restrictions.

WouldBeGood · 10/11/2021 19:22

England cases have been falling substantially

OP posts:
Scottishskifun · 10/11/2021 19:37

Yep travelling tabby graphs are pretty useful there isn't much in it.
England is on 356 but curve is dropping, Scotland is on 344 but static/hoovering/slight increase.

Aw thanks @rookiemere

WouldBeGood · 11/11/2021 09:03

My SNP MP, all credit to her, has posted a questionnaire through the door asking for views on policies and issues…. Didn’t know where to start, so focussed on the safe spaces for women and gender ID.

Wonder if I’ll hear back?

Today’s rail- I see the Swinneybot is standing in for his boss, who is still too busy promoting Irn Bru at COP to attend Parliament today.

Today’s rail- I see the Swinneybot is standing in for his boss, who is still too busy promoting Irn Bru at COP to attend Parliament today.
I was laughing at the twitter stuff yesterday on the back of a photo of Sturgeon and Yusless catching up on the Pandemic situation while at COP. Obviously to convince everyone that she is still doing the day job, whilst at a conference to which she wasn't invited and neither was he - must have spotted an empty conference room and dived in for the photo op...
OnceUponAWhine · 11/11/2021 12:32

Yes @ElephantOfRisk guitar on the wall, a proper cupboard/break out room they had to find. Handing out Irn Bru and gushing for selfies. Desperate. The cringe factor is so real. I just find it shameful she is not in Parliament, where we pay for her day job, it makes me actually feel for Swinney a bit, wheeled out to take the shit and deliver the predictable Uturn. Actually, scratch that, I don’t feel that sorry for him.
I’d love him to grow a pair and be caught on mic saying he’s sick of being the fall guyGrin or something like that…

ElephantOfRisk · 11/11/2021 12:34

He's like a stunt FM, just wheeled out for viewings like the stunt towels and fruit you have when selling your house.

At the end of the day, he is earning a decent salary and if he did a better job and grew a pair, he'd maybe not be in that position.

OnceUponAWhine · 11/11/2021 12:38

like the stunt towels and fruit you have when selling your house. Grin

and now I’m wondering if he smells like freshly baked bread? Blush
