DH is a nightmare he only knows the end of my phone number, of course its the end that I choose to get mildy wrong for T&T purposes, then he says 'are you sure that's right' Hmm

Justmuddlingalong · 08/11/2021 18:10

At a restaurant visit the other night, big song and dance about signing in with T&T and taking temperature. Completely OTT, so I pointed out that the sanitiser pump at the front door was empty. You'd have thought I'd shat on the bar, the look I got. 🙄

tiredoftiers · 08/11/2021 18:18

Certainly that’s what has annoyed me, they weren’t interested in tracking my contacts, but they were interested in when I had to stay in till. I felt rubbish the start of last week, heavy heavy cold etc, no cough, fever or loss of taste smell. When I tested positive on lateral flow I was surprised cause I had a heavy cold but covid had been on my radar hence the lateral flows. They said I was asymptomatic case despite feeling poorly, and then would only go back 48 hours with contacts. I’m also not allowed to count my start of illness to my isolation. If I hear that bloody advert that says 1 in 3 cases of coronavirus is asymptomatic I will scream, they just don’t have any of the 3 classic symptoms.
Just how many cases are being missed because certainly my symptoms were classic cold symptoms, it’s only 7 days in when I have ongoing tiredness it fits a bit more with coronavirus.

@Aurea

I'm having a humongous rail about the historic lack of parents' evenings (either online or face-to-face).

I have (finally) an online one coming up next month and looked back to see when the last one was as I couldn't for the life of me remember.

I'm absolutely horrified to learn it was in December 2018!!!!! My DC has now gone from S2 to S5 with no parents' meetings/discussions with any teachers.

We were due one in December 2019 but this was postponed last minute and was (inadvertently) rescheduled for when the first lockdown began. NOTHING SINCE apart from ineffective numbered reports and a very, very short paragraph for the end of year written reports.

I now have five minutes with each subject teacher after a three year absence. Do you think this is appalling or am I just unreasonably whining.....?

That is awful. I feel bad as I was complaining that ours (S1) is not until end of January and we've already been told it will be virtual and that it will be 'safe and secure'. From what? A man wielding a machete? I want to say F OFF.
Lockdownbear · 08/11/2021 19:40

How's this for bonkers, school could go to the panto with some other schools, but have decided not to as they aren't allowed to hold assemblies!

WouldBeGood · 08/11/2021 19:43

@Lockdownbear aaaaargh!! It’s all so nuts!!!

OP posts:
rookiemere · 08/11/2021 19:51

@WouldBeGood yes I can see that an online 5 minutes wouldn't work for subject choices as well.

GoldenOmber · 08/11/2021 19:59

The coffee place nearest me is still asking people to check in, but the phone signal and Wi-Fi in there are both flaky and half the time the app won’t connect.

Had a surreal experience the other day in there where the woman behind the counter asked if I’d checked in, I said it wasn’t loading properly, then we couldn’t hear each other through the masks and Perspex screen and sound of coffee machine so had to get louder and louder.
“WHAT?”
“I SAID, IT’S STILL LOADING!”
“SORRY CAN’T HEAR YOU CAN YOU SPEAK UP?
Ended up practically shouting at each other and probably have a 50x higher covid risk as a result than we would have done without any of the Sensible Protective Measures Grin

Similar here. It’s nuts.
OnceUponAWhine · 08/11/2021 20:08

Got to love the fact folk have been able to fly to the USA today for leisure, first time since early 2020, yet we still can’t go anywhere near our DCs school classrooms or meet a teacher in person🤷‍♀️

runningpink · 09/11/2021 06:22

Kind of @WouldBeGood. The cooker is connected so I can at least cook again. Still needs stuff done to finish it off but I can cope with that for now

runningpink · 09/11/2021 06:26

@OnceUponAWhine
Absolutely, the double standards is horrendous.

A friends kids were away to Glasgow with school for the Cop stuff.
All kids had masks on, all year groups travelled together on the bus, mixing all day indoors with others.

Yet not allowed on school ground let alone in the classroom. Makes me so angry

WouldBeGood · 09/11/2021 08:44

That’s progress, at least, @runningpink!

Surely the SG must see that the situation is now nonsensical?

OP posts:
titsintiers · 09/11/2021 09:02

Past performance is a guide to expectations here I think @WouldBeGood

WouldBeGood · 09/11/2021 09:28

🤣 @titsintiers

Succinctly put.

I asked DH some more about the QR track and a trace/check in - he said its never really used but is only held for 20 days. Even on the rare occasion they have needed to access it they haven't been able to (great system eh?!) so basically cafes/restaurants/pubs are getting hammered on it when it's pointless. Wonder if a journo would ask the question via a FOI into how often its actually been required/used for follow up......

DH says it should be taken out of law as it doesn't serve much useful purpose but SG are unlikely to do so as its a case of "being seen" to be doing something even if it has zero impact/effect!

ADreadedSunnyDay · 09/11/2021 09:49

Well i'm railing about the cost of going to the theatre this christmas. Simply cannot afford it this year (will be in region of £150 for three of us) and do not want to spend that amount of money to be expected to sit in masks through the entire performance. There will be nothing left of the arts / culture at this rate as I can't be the only one thinking like this.

I really really wish people would ease off on the testing except in certain circumstances (ie close contact with vulnerable people, in hospital/care settings) as I see it doing more harm than good now. Cases remain high, so restrictions remain, despite the numbers requiring hospital treatment lowering. I know some people won't agree with me and that's fine.

runningpink · 09/11/2021 10:04

Just see on Facebook that there is an update today

😂 Let's see if she has a rant about majority maskless Murrayfield!
ecceromani · 09/11/2021 10:32

I am generally ok wearing masks @ADreadedSunnyDay
But I have actively been avoiding going to cinema/theatre as it will ruin the experience for me having to sit in a mask in already warm environment. Being a woman of a certain age I will overheat!
I've not even been to see new James Bond film

IsurviveonCoffeeandWinein2021 · 09/11/2021 10:35

Railing about the school not doing the Christmas panto trip. We are going as a family so it's not because it isn't happening. Our head said something about as assemblies not allowed it's not appropriate 🤦‍♀️

I might have moaned about this previously not RTFT yet will go and catch up now.

What time is she on today?

Lockdownbear · 09/11/2021 10:35

I agree testing healthy people is becoming pointless.
But if it came to a choice of masks vs tests I'd rather masks went, especially for school kids in classes sitting at their desks.
Sorry but it makes me angry how much children and young adults are being discriminated against.

ElephantOfRisk · 09/11/2021 10:38

I'm a mask hater. We went to see Bond and we just got a big popcorn so would be eating...

However looking about the cinema there were only a couple of folk who kept masks on when seated.

I live in an area of pretty high compliance as well.

I'd go for it.

rookiemere · 09/11/2021 10:38

@ADreadedSunnyDay yes theatre prices seem ridiculous now.

I'm a capital theatre's member but the discount has gone from half price and the ticket cost has gone up significantly, meaning that for the two of us with a cheap pre theatre meal beforehand ( thankfully Absolute Thai has not put its prices up and still offers BYOB) the evening costs upwards of £100.

I know they're trying to recoup Covid financial losses, but it means we are going much less frequently and instead have got cineworld membership with Tesco vouchers and spending our time ( and discretionary drinks money) there.

I'm going down to London and there are much cheaper tickets available to see The Mirror and the Light with a famous cast, than there was with some murder drama with the guy that used to be on Eastenders. May have been amazing but at £40 a ticket we didn't go.
