That's good figures. It just seems to come in cycles and it's where you are on that cycle. I'm sure our figures will be back up again at some point but hopefully they now peak at a much lower level than pre vaccination.

Sorry for getting everyone thinking about Santa in November!

We are also going to see family we haven't seen in two years so really need to avoid covid for the next fortnight!

WouldBeGood · 06/11/2021 19:09

It really does @Calmdown14

Hope you avoid the Covid!

On to rail against the Scottish test and protect system. By phone it refuses to count onset of covid symptoms unless you have one of the three cough, fever or loss of taste/smell. Doesn't matter if you felt like shit 3 days before, they only count from the day you got a positive LFT.

Which means that they will not trace your contacts correctly. How many contacts are they missing. Not exactly world breaking.

WouldBeGood · 07/11/2021 10:26

Railing against the proposal to enforce boosters - when will this end? They’re talking no seamless travel without them now. Will they then sack health workers who don’t get a booster?

OP posts:
tiredoftiers · 07/11/2021 11:08

I’ve had a the booster Confused, still got me and I felt rotten. Just not rotten in the sense that test and protect would have counted it, but then they told me I should have tested earlier Angry

WouldBeGood · 07/11/2021 11:36

Even more annoying @tiredoftiers!

I'm having a humongous rail about the historic lack of parents' evenings (either online or face-to-face).

I have (finally) an online one coming up next month and looked back to see when the last one was as I couldn't for the life of me remember.

I'm absolutely horrified to learn it was in December 2018!!!!! My DC has now gone from S2 to S5 with no parents' meetings/discussions with any teachers.

We were due one in December 2019 but this was postponed last minute and was (inadvertently) rescheduled for when the first lockdown began. NOTHING SINCE apart from ineffective numbered reports and a very, very short paragraph for the end of year written reports.

I now have five minutes with each subject teacher after a three year absence. Do you think this is appalling or am I just unreasonably whining.....?

WouldBeGood · 07/11/2021 17:55

Definitely not unreasonable whining @Aurea. It’s terrible how all the principles of parental involvement have just been thrown to the wind.

My neighbour is a teacher and also thinks this is terrible, plus stressful all round.

DS is in s2, to pick subjects in January, and we’re also having the same type of parents evening: I’ve never been in his school nor spoken to a single teacher

OP posts:
Lockdownbear · 07/11/2021 21:13

@Aurea that's a complete disgrace, blame the school for that one.

We've had at least two, "parents nights" done over the phone, one this term and one during the summer term, we might have also had one this time last year but I can't remember.

OK it's primary so slightly easier to organise but really it's not hard, phone call from a "private number". I suspect teachers might be using their own phones but still it's do able.
They haven't gone down the route of video calls or anything clever just a bog standard phone call.

Groovee · 07/11/2021 21:20

Are we still doing track and trace in restaurants/coffee shops/pubs? Been in 3 different places and only Wetherspoons asked for it.

@Aurea that's not good at all. I know our local school had to switch to phone calls last week after all the school WiFi's went down.

Scottishskifun · 07/11/2021 21:22

Not a rail at all but a 😁

Back from the rugby I couldn't have envisaged being able to attend a few months ago! We did adapt it so it was a bit easier for me but still fantastic to be back in our old section having a chat with everyone etc. People in the stands went with what they were comfortable with and there was lots of singing, shouting and enjoying the game 😁 oh and Scotland beat the Aussies too!

boobashka · 07/11/2021 21:42

Yay @Scottishskifun - rugby sounds great and normal

@Aurea - that is really bad. I thought it was bad here as we've only just had DS's (S3) parents night last month - the first since he was in First Year and he'd had to choose his options with no meeting between us and the teachers. The teenagers really have been overlooked in all this.

He's going on a Scout Camp soon and they will be required to wear masks inside unless eating or sleeping - because Covid will go to sleep when they do presumably...?! Hmm

WouldBeGood · 07/11/2021 21:43

Hurray for the rugby @Scottishskifun

That’s truly inane about the scouts @boobashka

OP posts:
tiredoftiers · 07/11/2021 22:23

@boobashka you only breathe when you’re awake? Hmm

@Aurea it’s scandalous about parents nights. We had an online one 7 minutes cut dead at 7 minutes even if the teacher was still talking. The connection was so bad for 4 minutes it sounded like they were scuba diving.

This is why I’m so frustrated with test and protect, and all the covid stuff. It’s being done so poorly there’s no wonder it’s spreading, but still our kids suffer.

Fogormist · 08/11/2021 11:50

We've had an online parents' evening for S6. My DC is doing 3 Advanced Highers. In theory I had 4 minutes for each AH, but in practice the teachers were late joining the meetings, so I had at best 10 minutes in total to discuss all 3 Advanced Highers. This involved sitting there in silence as the teachers speed spoke the key things they wanted to say. No time for questions, discussions, clarification, etc. Very disappointing and felt quite disrespectful tbh.

rookiemere · 08/11/2021 16:46

I'm very confused if we're still meant to be doing track and trace @Groovee . I was handed the form in a restaurant the other day, so I pretended to log in, but didn't think we absolutely had to anymore.

I quite like online parents evening tbh. Before at DSs private school it was an absolute rammy as we middle class entitled DPs did battle to get to see the Maths teacher first with no visible queuing system. I just need to remember we're booked in for Tuesday evening Blush as I'd already forgot and signed up for Body Pump.

Scottishskifun · 08/11/2021 16:58

@rookiemere it's completely pointless! Track and trace won't use the info at all, what so ever as it's not a high risk setting. They are only interested if it's a care home, factory type environment or considered high risk.
DH has gone from contacting businesses each day as requested by track and trace to nothing!
I don't bother logging it at all as I know it's never going to be used so completely pointless exercise to log info!

WouldBeGood · 08/11/2021 17:30

@rookiemere I think it will be hard for my s2 when there are still loads of subjects, I’ve met no teachers, and would like to consider his options properly

Haudyourwheesht · 08/11/2021 17:32

We were in a cafe in a country park type place the other week and the girl made us show her the green tick for t&t before she would let us through the door. I was quite taken aback - it's been such a long time since I've completed track and trace anywhere.

Lockdownbear · 08/11/2021 17:42

I think we are still meant to be doing t&t but I think is some form of creapy surveillance on people as much as it is anything else. People don't need to isolate so what other reasons do they want to know who's where?

Maybe I just lack all sorts of trust in ScotGov

WouldBeGood · 08/11/2021 17:44

Do you not still need to isolate in Scotland? I thought you did.

I find places have a qr code somewhere but haven’t been asked to do one, or it even mentioned, for ages

OP posts:
Lockdownbear · 08/11/2021 17:45

Only if you test positive I think that's the rules.

WouldBeGood · 08/11/2021 17:46

Ah! Thanks. 😊

runningpink · 08/11/2021 17:49

Jealous of you being at the game @Scottishskifun it’s was a cracking one. Glad it was fairly normal and you had a good time. Maybe I will manage to go next year.

I have never had the app for track and trace and the odd time I went anywhere (usually a quick run in for a takeaway/sit outdoors) I scribbled my details down so unlikely they could be read.

WouldBeGood · 08/11/2021 17:52

Is your kitchen done @runningpink?!
