Ahhh @WouldBeGood fab news!
Yes it's wonderful to have the choice and not be hit instantly with massive no mask no entry signs everywhere!

We have spent about 2 months in England since April and we have really enjoyed the more relaxed everyone deal with their own approach attitude even before they got rid of them in England.
Everytime we come back home it's a sense of back to the nonsense!

IsurviveonCoffeeandWinein2021 · 09/10/2021 19:41

Oh enjoy @WouldBeGood I loved being in England!

I know many hate the football but deary me a large Prosecco is needed after the scotland game tonight 🥂

Haudyourwheesht · 09/10/2021 20:29

What a fantastic result. They have to keep us hopeful to let us down in glorious defeat again.

(Showing my age there.)

IsurviveonCoffeeandWinein2021 · 09/10/2021 20:32

@Haudyourwheesht oh I know! Talk about not taking the easy road! It would be amazing to qualify. I like that everyone is on the same side.

WouldBeGood · 10/10/2021 06:18

Go, Scotland- I need to use my flag that came too late for us in the Euros!

The choice is good on the masks. A few people are wearing them but not getting bad looks or anything. Staff in some places still wearing them. Met another couple on the train who had been very worried about Covid at the start, but who were now wondering “how Nicola gets away with it”. In the context of the ongoing restrictions.

Glasgow central was unpleasant with barked messages over the tannoy about NO BUYING OR DRINKING ALCOHOL! on Scotrail trains. And the weird ad about how we are to prevent drug deaths playing on the screen. Visitors must just wonder where on earth they’ve arrived!

Hope you're enjoying London @WouldBeGood . I'm going in November with a Lumo £19.90 each way special.

Out last night in Edinburgh, lots of young people getting on the bus with no masks, driver didn't seem to care. DH went to take off his mask when we were sat down on the bus - confused by the rule no doubt where you can take it off when sat down in a restaurant but not a bus. It's also getting too cold to have all the windows open.

Apart from the masks though it felt pretty much like a Saturday night out of yore. Was it about this time last year they brought in the no alcohol rule ? What on earth was that about then and why did anyone think it would impact covid rates ?

sartorius · 10/10/2021 08:51

Hope everyone having good time away/ nights out.

There are lots of rules @rookiemere that we all diligently followed which I now think wtfHmm
The one I particularly can't believe I did was meeting friend each week for a coffee in not well ventilated coffee shop, uncomfortably close (albeit back to back) with other customers.
When we could have sat 3m apart in my large living room with patio windows open, just the 2of us🤷🏼‍♀️

hilbil21 · 10/10/2021 14:54

@WouldBeGood how busy would you say London is? Back to pre pandemic levels?

shouldistop · 10/10/2021 16:31

Urghhhhh ds1 has a temperature of 38.1
He looks really pale and is absolutely miserable but says nothing is sore. We have a lateral flow test as dh had to do one to go to an event recently so going to do it on him and consider booking a pcr.
He's meant to be going to MIL tomorrow to play as he hardly gets to go now he's at school, we were meant to be going out with my mum on Tuesday and had other plans for the rest of the week too Sad

KingsleyShacklebolt · 10/10/2021 18:21
@WouldBeGood how busy would you say London is? Back to pre pandemic levels?
Well obviously I can't speak for
@WouldBeGood
but we are in York, there was horse racing here Friday/Saturday and it was HEAVING.

Friday night in town was just so busy, loads of people around, in and out of pubs, eating in restaurants, going on ghost walks. In town wandering around during the day yesterday and it was really busy again, lots of shoppers, street performers, crowded outdoor market, kids queuing to get into Nandos.

It was wonderful. A totally normal, pre-pandemic experience.

rookiemere · 10/10/2021 18:29

@shouldistop hope DS improves.
DS15 announced that he had a sore throat today Confused and he has his PCR on Tuesday for Tenerife. First world problem but we'll all be so gutted if we can't go. Trying to get him to do a lateral flow but can't get him to stop eating chewing gum for half an hour.

hilbil21 · 10/10/2021 18:29

@KingsleyShacklebolt I have been down south a few times recently and you're right it's busy and brilliant lol. The reason I'm asking about London is because I'm contemplating going to Portsmouth on the train with my autistic 6 year old and it involves a Euston to Waterloo on the tube situation. Just trying to decide if I want to put myself through it if it's back to being absolutely mobbed Grin

Groovee · 10/10/2021 18:42

@shouldistop hope ds hets better soon

It was freezing in the tram this morning. All the windows were open.

Got a scan this week at the hospital. Hoping it's quick as I have to wear a mask there.

mapleleavesreturn · 10/10/2021 21:01

Oh dear covid cases in one dc's class again...will I get through the whole week at work without testing and isolating?

WouldBeGood · 10/10/2021 21:27

Oh @rookiemere that’s rubbish. If it’s any help, the cold that’s going about starts with a sore throat.

Your train fare to London is amazing!

WouldBeGood · 10/10/2021 21:30

@hilbil21 I wouldn’t say it’s back to pre pandemic busyness. Lots of pubs and restaurant shut still and closing early. Haven’t been on the tube yet but will report tomorrow.

hilbil21 · 10/10/2021 21:32

@WouldBeGood thank you Smile

WouldBeGood · 10/10/2021 21:33

@KingsleyShacklebolt York sounds great too!

Definitely going to book any theatres/gigs and stuff in England until this nonsense stops in Scotland. As others have said, the choice is so nice to have.

@shouldistop get well soon little stop

OP posts:
rookiemere · 10/10/2021 21:33

@WouldBeGood yes I'm keeping my fingers crossed as friends DDs also had the sore throat and both tested negative.

I'm going to pretend to work we've gone even if we haven't as I'm escaping an overnight implementation and I've already had to work this weekend.

WouldBeGood · 10/10/2021 21:37

@rookiemere yep, same with ds’ school and him and dd. All negative.

Good plan to hide out anyway!

I was on the tube during peak time recently, I would say it’s pretty packed. So much so that I walked (as I used to do pre 2020) across- it’s definitely not as busy in streets or on the regular trains, but with your reasons in mind, I wouldn’t take my own DC at the times I travelled- but probably absolutely fine in late morning/mid afternoon? Worth noting lots of tourists attractions shut on a Mon, Tues at the moment, so unless you’re travelling in English school holidays, it might be quieter at start of week around central London🤷‍♀️

Y0uCann0tBeSer10us · 11/10/2021 17:07

Once again I feel like I've fallen down the rabbit hole. In England (so not a Scottish rail for once!) ministers are 'encouraging' parents to consent to their 12-15 year olds being jagged, as apparently only 9% have been. Personally, I think ministers should not be 'encouraging' one way or the other and it should be a free choice given the very questionable benefits for this group. But the thing that has me really scratching my head is that apparently one of the main reasons for the stuttering rollout is high COVID infection rates in school children.

The head of the NAHT union says:
"Unfortunately, one of the reasons for the slow deployment is that children are missing their chance for vaccination because they have caught Covid-19.
If they are off sick they miss vaccination slots at school - and they cannot be jabbed while they are ill anyway - there is a 28-day waiting period before a child who has had Covid can then have the vaccine."

I'm sorry, but what? Children who missed their vaccine slot because they are ill with COVID19 will have to wait 28 days before being vaccinated against COVID19.... Apparently this is a disaster. Have we now officially decided that the immune system doesn't exist then?

sartorius · 11/10/2021 18:00

I'm speechless @Y0uCann0tBeSer10us Confused

hilbil21 · 11/10/2021 18:07

@OnceUponAWhine The timing I'm looking at would be Euston - Waterloo at 16:10. From what you've said it might be a bit too risky. My son copes fine with crowds and noise etc, it's my stress levels I'm worried about Smile

WouldBeGood · 11/10/2021 18:11

Tube really really quiet today @hilbil21
