@39Y0uCann0tBeSer10us agree its a bit bonkers we can only wait and see I did note that it's in the SG ELC education recovery to maximise outdoor activities 🙄

We just have to go back to watching and waiting, they seem to be trying to adopt a Scandinavian approach except the climate is pretty different so is the cold level. It's colder in Scandinavian countries but its a more dry cold not damp so it feels different. I can happily be in -5 in Sweden with a warm jacket and a pair of tights under my jeans but in Scotland it would be full on base layers, thermal lined trousers etc.

It also presumes that parents have the money for the very specific outdoor gear needed to keep warm and its over £100 a set of decent Scandinavian coveralls alone without a jacket!

Lockdownbear · 05/10/2021 14:03

It's not even the cost of decent gear. It's the fact that kids are missing out on crafts if they are outside most of the day.

It's a different miserable coldness in Scotland, damp and soggy cold where other countries with get a dry sunny cold.

Really it means LOs are missing out on the craft stuff they'd normally be doing at that age.

ElephantOfRisk · 05/10/2021 14:12

We've now turned down £20M for road works as SNP and Greens don't want us using cars... Ermm okay but buses and cyclists also use roads and we can't use trains on the sabbath plus people need tobe able to get to a station as well as have a useful affordable service. Lets just cut off rural communities even more at least it will stop them getting covid Hmm

Y0uCann0tBeSer10us · 05/10/2021 14:32

I'm absolutely astonished to learn this morning that there have been essentially no train services on Sundays in Scotland for about 6 months! I personally don't take the train any more as it takes far too long when you have small children to get to places in the morning, but bloody hell! How have they managed to keep that so quiet?! It would be front page news every day if the London underground was refusing passengers every Sunday for half a year.

Scottishskifun · 05/10/2021 14:34

@Lockdownbear DS still did crafts just at the outdoor tables last year under the heaters. But it is so dependent on the nursery and set up and we choose to send DS to a very outdoor focused nursery (he will start forest school next year with them where it's all outside). But that's our choice and what suits DS!

I don't agree with forcing all nurseries into a outdoor dominant approach for starts at least half don't have enough outdoor space to do it! But hey what do parents know about their children according to the SG approach and application to ELC!

ElephantOfRisk · 05/10/2021 14:47

But funnily enough, the internet is full of Nicola and crew buddying up to visitors, indoor and with no masks so the games a bogey right?

The nursey stuff presumably as that's where most of the cases are? And we are still on the zero covid trail?

Lockdownbear · 05/10/2021 15:45

DSs nursery had a big outdoor area but I and a couple of gazebo type things but he did a fraction of the amount of drawing and stuff that his brother did at the same age.

So I can only put that down to covid. But your right a lot of nurseries don't have a massive out door space to work with.

Just another way kids are been forgotten about while everything else edge's towards normal.

mapleleavesreturn · 05/10/2021 15:52

Yes both dc spent time in nurseries with very limited outdoor space, is a compulsory land purchase going alongside this plan?

Whenisthisgoingtoend · 05/10/2021 18:05

We were asked for our vaccine status @Scottishskifun when entering a museum today and again on a boat trip (Greece) never been asked at restos though early days we’re only arrived a few days ago. Have been eating on the terraces.

@sartorius enjoy your travels.

That’s shocking she’s refused money to get our roads repaired. This alliance with the greens is the gift that keeps giving.

Scottishskifun · 05/10/2021 19:15

@Whenisthisgoingtoend ah that's interesting we weren't asked all week and did a boat trip, a tour and DH did water sports, we ate on terraces as well but did have one coffee inside.

The impression I got from the Island and area we stayed was that they knew the rules but didn't really wish to impose them on tourists!

tiredoftiers · 05/10/2021 20:38

Realised tonight just how much of my life is normal, unfortunately for my DCs their school life appears not to be.

No nativity play.
No Christmas fayre
No halloween school disco
Still maintained a staggered start and finish time, which ultimately must impact on teaching time as its done alphabetically so half the class arrives then ten minutes later the other

It just seems so unfair on our children, when I can go to crowded nightclubs etc.

runningpink · 05/10/2021 22:03

When will she be doing her next update?

Thought she was meant to review masks in schools after 6 weeks?

Also the numbers ar dropping so what reasons does she have to keep us restricted. I want to go for a meal and walk into shops etc

tiredoftiers · 05/10/2021 22:05

Interesting that numbers are dropping without any further restrictions.
I personally can not see that staggered school start and finish times have any impact on transmission rates, I'd love to see the evidence for it.

BlameItOnTheBlackStar · 05/10/2021 22:16

Why are they bothering to cling on to that pointless rule? Confused

WouldBeGood · 05/10/2021 22:17

Numbers have risen and fallen globally with total disregard for measures put in place. The masks and the performance stuff make no difference

Lockdownbear · 05/10/2021 23:00

Goodness only knows why they are continuing with staggard starts but I think my kids school with P1-3 starting and finishing earlier than P4-7 makes more sense than an alphabetical split. And half the class before the other.

Although we have an alphabetical split on who goes in which gate - bonkers.

I'm sure it was all quietly reviewed and extended around the 4 week mark.

But it is a bug bear that adults are getting back to normal but kids aren't. Guess who doesn't vote. Maybe I'm cynical

titsintiers · 06/10/2021 05:52

Our school has been back to one drop off/ one pick up for everyone since going back after summer holidays. I didn't realise there was variations in local authority rules on this.

WouldBeGood · 06/10/2021 08:03

Good news, which means this nonsense can stop! Article in BMJ this week about Scottish study showing that teachers are no more at risk of Covid than other similar working adults and at less risk of serious disease.

School claims it’s local authority guidance, local authority claims it’s government guidance. Hard to challenge

Masks were extended until October. As I keep bleating, we'll be extended in masks until June next year.

My favourite last week is that the care inspectorate have decided nursery staff should put their masks when not in use in a breathable pouch... that was on Monday, by Wednesday it was a sealed washable pouch or container..

Lockdownbear · 06/10/2021 10:14

What the heck is a breathable pouch? Does that mean a hoodie pocket? 🤔

ssd · 06/10/2021 10:18

I really dont see how teachers are at the same risk as others. They've been at much more risk than me working in a shop with plastic screens at the tills and masks everywhere. I dont believe that report.

Lockdownbear · 06/10/2021 10:33

Could be they are saying plastic screens are pointless or the way I read it was they were at no more risk to covid than people wandering shops, or sitting in cafes.

tiredoftiers · 06/10/2021 10:38

One of the latest things I read was that plastic screens affect airflow reducing air changes so are pointless……….
Or perhaps children aren’t quite so good at spreading covid.
Who knows, all I do know is that numbers have fallen off a cliff despite restrictions not being changed, so probably a good indication they can be relaxed further.

WouldBeGood · 06/10/2021 10:45

I don’t know why you wouldn’t believe it 🤷🏻‍♀️
