@WouldBeGood

Just me that’s hoping for another ban on family Christmas then..? 😃
It definitely suited some people @wouldbegood Grin
mapleleavesreturn · 07/10/2021 16:55

Not just you would dh remembers last Christmas as the best Christmas of all time - family all banned as too far away, no thinking you've gotten away with it to have relatives descend at the last minute!

Every year from September in he's clenched about who is going to visit!

WouldBeGood · 08/10/2021 12:11

@mapleleavesreturn 🤣 I feel his pain

BlameItOnTheBlackStar · 08/10/2021 14:13

I thought it would be great, just the four of us for the first time ever.

It was shit, we all hated it. Bored shitless by about 6pm.

Never again!

DSs are 21 and 20 now and we've had only 2 years when we've had other people and 1 year when we went out (that was truly shit), we enjoy just the 4 of us but I think it was hardest in the early/mid teen years when they didn't take a whole morning to open gifts and then didn't want us to be playing with them or to take their new scooters out or whatever. You just have to have a different structure for the day for those years. Since they've been old enough for the walk to the pub and have a pint it's improved again! Grin
Perihelion · 08/10/2021 15:35

Yep, mid teens is hard, especially as it's the one day of the year that there's no real going over to their pals houses, because it's Christmas.
Does anyone know if they are going to send out appointments for 12-15 year olds? Just curious, as have already taken DD to Ingliston as was worried any appointment would be at a stupid time or place.

dancemom · 08/10/2021 15:41

• 2,627 new cases of COVID-19 reported
• 35,891 new tests for COVID-19 that reported results
â—¦ 7.9% of these were positive
• 16 new reported death(s) of people who have tested positive
• 64 people were in intensive care yesterday with recently confirmed COVID-19
• 957 people were in hospital yesterday with recently confirmed COVID-19
• 4,240,984 people have received their first dose of a COVID-19 vaccination and 3,857,442 have received their second dose

Thanks @dancemom
Hospital numbers coming down slowly

BlameItOnTheBlackStar · 09/10/2021 20:08

Just saw the the end of mass testing looks to be on the horizon:

https://www.thecourier.co.uk/fp/news/scotland/2649939/covid-scotland-18-new-deaths-as-end-of-mass-free-tests-considered/

Haudyourwheesht · 09/10/2021 20:32

The problem with that is where there are events like TRNSMT that require negative tests to get in.

I definitely agree that they shouldn't just be given out willy- nilly though. Even a nominal fee would be an idea.

sartorius · 09/10/2021 21:23

I think in other countries people have to buy tests from pharmacy for attending leisure activities

WouldBeGood · 10/10/2021 06:05

Now Trnsmt would require vaccine passports instead…

dancemom · 10/10/2021 14:18

• 2,363 new cases of COVID-19 reported
• 29,419 new tests for COVID-19 that reported results

• 54 people were in intensive care yesterday with recently confirmed COVID-19

Has there been an announcement regarding face masks in schools after the October week? We are very much suffering from mask fatigue in my house!

Cismyfatarse · 10/10/2021 16:44

In the Times today it says that masks will be dropped for exam years.

sartorius · 10/10/2021 16:58

I wonder why just that age group @Cismyfatarse
Maybe the vaccine uptake in
16 &17 yr olds has reached the threshold they wanted?

Mistressiggi · 10/10/2021 18:11

That's strange - back in the days we had masks by levels, it was the seniors who had to wear them in class and the younger ones didn't. I can see vaccines might apply here but the actual numbers vaccinated will vary greatly.

Mistressiggi · 10/10/2021 18:12

Loads of exam year pupils are under 16 too, most of S4 would be just now.

Haudyourwheesht · 10/10/2021 20:49

That's weird. Any reduction in mask use would be nice, but the fact that it's the opposite to what we had before suggests there is no science, there is no evidence at work here.

Mistressiggi · 10/10/2021 21:06

Hmm, if there's evidence the majority are vaccinated I could see the point. My seniors have had the greatest numbers of positives. I'm sure they would (mostly) be relived to stop wearing them, some will be anxious, and if it leads to a greater spread and more time off school for them or me then there will be a lot more anxiety! But I'm not sure if it will.

WouldBeGood · 10/10/2021 21:34

Apparently 25% of teens vaccinated in Scotland as against 4% in England. Interesting.

Mistressiggi · 10/10/2021 21:36

Did that specify what level of teens, under or over 16? Interesting. I don't think under 16s can do drop ins in England, they are waiting for appointments.(I might be wrong about that)
