Do you remember when it plateaued at 500 - would be nice if that was the case now.

Pootle40 · 13/09/2021 12:41

If cases weren't reported on a daily basis do you think you'd be aware of 'cases'. I know I wouldn't and reported numbers in Fife are huge. Time to dial down or turn off the reporting of positive cases.

BlameItOnTheBlackStar · 13/09/2021 13:31

I feel like I would just now because for the first time ever I'm surrounded by positive cases! My entire family has had it in the last few weeks, I know of multiple local families likewise, classes in the local primary are missing at least a third of pupils.

ResilienceWanker · 13/09/2021 13:47

But, but, but - that's what this thread is for! We come here and dancemom tells us the numbers Grin I'd feel adrift without the Daily Numbers.

I know what you mean though. Given that changes in cases don't mean anything any more in terms of restrictions/ tiers, it's probably not doing much good. We can't do anything about them, and NS can do what she wants anyway, regardless of the numbers. I assume we're told, so we can be reminded to carry on being careful/ follow the rules/ we can still bring back restrictions you know. Some of which may be useful to us, possibly, but the latter, not so useful (in terms of my mental health at least). I do wonder when the numbers will stop being announced daily on the news and so on - even if they remain available on gov websites for those that want them. I kind of feel we should probably be there now, really.

dancemom · 13/09/2021 14:08

• 4,241* new cases of COVID-19 reported
• 40,749* new tests for COVID-19 that reported results
â—¦ 11.3*% of these were positive
• 0 new reported death(s) of people who have tested positive (noting that Register Offices are now generally closed at weekends)
• 90 people were in intensive care yesterday with recently confirmed COVID-19
• 1,048 people were in hospital yesterday with recently confirmed COVID-19
• 4,142,783 people have received their first dose of a COVID-19 vaccination and 3,785,214 have received their second dose
*Please note that due to IT issues, the figures reported today are likely to be an underestimate of the total tests and cases. All affected data will be included in tomorrow’s reports.

@ResilienceWanker so glad I have my uses 😆

Happy to stop posting them at any time however, I'll go with the general consensus of the thread as to when that is?

But...what would I do at 2pm each day if I didn't have you @dancemom Shock

ResilienceWanker · 13/09/2021 14:26

Grin dancemom - thanks! I find it very useful you posting them, and, as I said, know where to come to get them when I'm interested! I just meant that I think having them broadcast daily as "news" (implication that they are important data that we need to know to understand government policy) may be slight overkill. Ditto with daily vaccination figures. It's nice if you're interested in that sort of thing, but now the vast majority of people have been jagged and it's no longer a race against whatever deadline has been set (and its no longer the half a million or so we were getting done daily at peak, which WAS really encouraging when we thought vaccines were the way out of restrictions). But I suppose broadcasters are kind of hamstrung, as they don't want to be the first to drop it. Because then they wouldn't care about all these sick and dying people.

Not keen on that little "underestimated" comment. Brace ourselves for another 7k day tomorrow?

Explosivefarts · 13/09/2021 14:55

Over 1000 in hospital now that’s worrying

ResilienceWanker · 13/09/2021 15:48

Just noticed that travelling tabby has done a nice page on vaccination status set against new cases, hospitalisations and deaths. I think we discussed that on here a few weeks ago, but it's explained nicely here, and has graphs with up to date data etc. There was a thread I was reading the other day from an ICU nurse Hmm saying that 95% of people there were unvaccinated under 60s or something. And it sounded suspicious (could have been the case in a single ward I suppose, but not representative of the whole hospital let alone country) - but I couldn't find anything to counter. Not that I looked very hard, it has to be said.

With Covid. We don't know why they are in hospital
sartorius · 13/09/2021 17:31

@ResilienceWanker
Do you know where the travelling tabby guy got those figures? I didn't think SG publish data that detailed

ResilienceWanker · 13/09/2021 17:49

I didn't think so either! The little link under the graphs (first few anyway) takes you to this PHS report and the summary of the data is page 28/29. You can probably get the actual data from one of the links on that page but spreadsheets scare my tablet so I can't check!

sartorius · 13/09/2021 18:29

Thank @ResilienceWanker
Crikey I'd no idea all that data was there.
Thank goodness he's there to interpret it.
Stats has never been my strong pointHmm

MarigoldMiss · 13/09/2021 19:01

I've never known so many people with it, so I would.

Explosivefarts · 13/09/2021 19:05

@Pootle40 sorry I should have said 1,048 Covid patients in Scottish hospitals – up 71 from Friday

Pootle40 · 13/09/2021 19:25

Isn't it 1048 patients in hospital who happen to have Covid? some who will be in receiving treatment for Covid. They are not necessarily all Covid patients.

forfucksakenett · 13/09/2021 19:32

I'm sure someone on another thread said that according to the English data approx 23% of patients have covid with something else. The remaining 77% are in hospital because of covid.

Hopefully someone can confirm. It was recently I read it though and deffo on a Scotnset thread.

Explosivefarts · 13/09/2021 19:33

1,048 people were in hospital yesterday with recently confirmed COVID-19 is the exact wording on the Government site.

Explosivefarts · 13/09/2021 19:35

Can’t find an actual breakdown of how many are in hospital just for Covid

Haudyourwheesht · 13/09/2021 19:55

I don't know anyone with it just now. I feel like I've been in a bit of a bubble for the past year and a half, tbh. Very few family or close friends have had it. A lot of them test regularly because of work, too.

sartorius · 13/09/2021 20:21

Does anyone know how long the single dose our teenagers are getting will last?
I know with adults they said most protection from 1st dose but need 2nd for long-lasting

Perihelion · 13/09/2021 22:01

90 people in ICU with Covid. 19 more than a week ago. So approx 55% of January peak now.

WouldBeGood · 13/09/2021 23:03

Not because of Covid

BlameItOnTheBlackStar · 13/09/2021 23:15

Oh god do we have to have this same conversation every day? Because of Covid or with Covid makes no difference to the amount of NHS resource required to treat the person in question.
