SNP in coalition with Greens

Disneycharacter · 21/08/2021 15:37

Obviously to gain traction for a referendum on devolution and ultimately independence

The greens want to shut down all gas and oil because of environmental concerns, but gas and oil provide most of Scotland's revenue and they would need that for independence

How is that circle squared?

I was annoyed to hear a R4 QT presenter say today that the Scottish parliament has a majority of pro independence mps. I thought the greens are in favour of a referendum but neutral on independence itself. Nice, sneaky vote-getting strategy there.

The Green Party still has to vote on whether to accept the terms of the snp/green deal apparently. I assume they'll accept it?

Disneycharacter · 21/08/2021 16:24

I wonder if the SNP will commit to oil and gas reduction to get the Greens on board then bail out of the deal if they get an Indy ref 2?

I'd be interested in the figures on how an independent Scotland would work without oil and gas

ElephantOfRisk · 21/08/2021 17:26

Well it doesn't work with oil and gas so without, also doesn't work.

prettybird · 22/08/2021 16:24

Don't know about the (English) Green Party but the Scottish Greens are explicitly pro-Independence - not neutral Confused

This is from their manifesto for this year's elections.

HarrisMcCoo · 22/08/2021 16:27

Greens are all for independence. I thought this was common knowledge?🤔

midgemagneto · 22/08/2021 17:37

If Scotland can't be viable without oil and gas it isn't viable

OnceUponAWhine · 22/08/2021 20:05

What a collection of clowns we now have at the very top. If only it weren’t so serious and our country’s future that’s at stake, we could maybe laugh at them…but it ain’t no laughing matter. Pretty worrying times ahead.

HarrisMcCoo · 22/08/2021 20:16

Probably best to see what happens first then decide if they are a bunch of clowns. Give them a chance 🤷

mibbelucieachwell · 22/08/2021 21:24

Wow. Thanks for correcting me. I would have sworn that LS said once on QT that the greens were pro Indy ref but neutral on independence.

libertyfarmboots · 22/08/2021 21:29

In the last referendum the greens took a pro-indy position on a party basis but allowed their members to campaign for whichever side they wanted

PhoenixFreesias · 22/08/2021 21:31

Wind, wave and hydro power ramped up over the next 2-3 decades as oil and gas wind down is where the two parties overlap I suspect.

14 years isn't enough?? How long should we give them?
HarrisMcCoo · 23/08/2021 07:38

Oh ye of little faith....

Coalition of total fuckwits.

I hope it implodes.

KimikosNightmare · 25/08/2021 01:07

This is interesting as an example of just how fuckwitted they are. The Greens of course want to block the upgrading of the A9.

ElephantOfRisk · 25/08/2021 08:11

Apart from business and tourism issues, will any of the inevitable deaths be on their heads?

Pretty much sums it up for me.

We already know they are clowns to be honest, as the SNP have had years and years of showing that, the leaders of the greens in Scotland misogynists and fools. Slater thought it was a good idea to send support to see the vile wee idiot who hassled the women in Doctors last Saturday.
annabelindajane · 30/08/2021 12:22

It’s all for independence ,

god forbid . In the Times yesterday they flagged up that Nicola wanted to abolish air passenger duty to “ dramatically increase Scotland’s international connectivity and boost our tourist industry “ so guess that won’t be happening .

Greens also want to bring in rent control which is a well intentioned system but doesn’t work as building new homes then becomes unrewarding . Sweden has adopted it and currently has a housing shortage even more dire than Scotland which is exacerbated by the threat of Indyref2 which stifles investment.

Greens and SNP both fiscally and politically illiterate.

Seriously? you'd think at the very least she'd know to stay out of something so controversial.

HarrisMcCoo · 30/08/2021 13:29

Greens sneaking their way to the top. Nicely done. It's going to be really interesting to see what they come to agreement on.

MaMelon · 30/08/2021 13:33

1.3% share of the votes and they are in power. As if the SG couldn't get any worse.

I can only hope that once people start realising the negative impact this will have on Scotland they'll stop blindly voting for the SNP.

The Scottish Greens are causing huge problems here with their down right ridiculous ideas and dubious behaviour, especially their stance on the rights of women and children. The lunatics have well and truly taken over the asylum in 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿
